August had come around very fast, which meant Jake's twenty-second birthday was on the horizon. Honestly, he didn't know where the last year had gone, and as his mom had helpfully pointed out, there were no big birthdays for a while, and she assured him that he wouldn't be wanting the next milestone to come quickly at all. Jake wasn't too bothered about getting older, but he didn't want to ruin his mom's fun.

That morning he had a few errands to attend. First off was paying for his university fees and getting his identification card renewed. Marilyn had done hers weeks ago, she'd informed him earlier that morning, telling him that he shouldn't have left it 'so late'. He'd kindly reminded her he still had three weeks, but that didn't seem to appease the witch.

Professor Clement knew that he would be taking the class, so he doubted he was going to be missed off of the register, but he didn't dare say that to Marilyn.

He'd just finished signing up when he noted a familiar face in the sign up. Well, perhaps he wasn't going to be last this morning, eh? Moving towards the door, Jake took a seat just outside, waiting for the young man he'd noticed in sign up to come out. They'd shared class the year before, and James seemed like an alright guy. They hadn't spoken much, and since his move from America, Jake had found he wasn't seeing other people very much. So he was going to see if James was free, and then hopefully something would spark there.

When the blonde man walked out, Jake got to his feet. "Hey, James, wait up!" Jake called, hurrying to the other man's side. "You busy?" Jake asked, wondering if perhaps they could grab a coffee, or something.

James had spent the holidays with his family, babying his sister and doing whatever it was she wanted, which mostly involved shopping at different malls across the world, both Muggle and wizarding. He quite honestly didn't mind as much as he thought he would have, although if anyone he knew saw him, it would have been a rather interesting thing to explain.

Finally, James had to take a day off to go and sign up for his classes, because any later and he was afraid it would leave him with a bad mark. He was just walking out when a familiar voice had called his name and he turned, trying to place the person standing before him.

It took a few moments before James recognized the man as Jake, someone from his previous lessons. He didn't look like an idiot, but one could never fully tell. Still, he had nothing better to do - and by now, anything seemed better than going to yet another mall - and so he shook his head. "Nah. Been with the family the entire hols. Wanna go get a drink?" he asked, pretty sure that was where the other Auror-in-training was heading towards. And, anyway, if it wasn't, there was no harm in asking.

Seeing that the other man was slowing down a bit, Jake was kinda glad. As much as he loved Marilyn, it was always nice to get some space, and a little "guy time" was never going to go amiss. Besides, the two of them would be working together at some point in the future, so it was best to get to know the man who was going to be watching your back.

"Nah. Been with the family the entire hols. Wanna go get a drink?"

"Sure thing!" Jake replied to the man before him, motioning towards the door for them to get outside. "You want to grab coffee, or hit the bar?" Jake asked, though knowing most students, it was going to be the latter. Once the decision was made, Jake followed along. Honestly, he didn't know much about the university because he lived off of campus.

"The family are all well, I hope?" Jake asked, trying to make conversation from what the man had provided him with. Obviously he didn't know anything, but he could try to get to know James, if he was allowed in.
