| Finley was late, and Merlin did he hate himself for that slip up. The Ravenclaw was not accustomed to being late, and today meant he was in a rush, hair askew and tie only just on as he ran through the common room and down the stairs. How had he let that happen?
His badge only seemed to weigh heavier today, and he shook of the feeling of not being good enough as he passed through the front doors of the castle and quickly down to the grounds.
It wouldn't happen again, he assured himself, finally being able to see the group ahead of him for his class.
"H-Headmaster." Finley greeted the man at the front of the group, his stutter coming more in that moment because he was very tired than because of his nerves. Though, to be honest, Finley didn't understand the Headmaster and his ludicrous idea of making him prefect.
Looking past the Headmaster, Finley saw the subject for today, and his eyes went wide. Wow. |

| Daniel had been ready for the students to arrive, and the small fence that had been erected to keep the Unicorns closed off from the students, something Daniel knew was probably best, especially for those who became easily excitable.
Which seemed to be the first two children that arrived before him.
"Yes, they're real unicorns, and yes, Max, this will be the lesson for today." Daniel replied to the two first years who seemed eager to get started on today's lesson. The next two students - older students - seemed less impressed with the beasts, though he would imagine it was likely due to the fact magic was not something new to them.
Daniel greeted those who came along with a small smile, checking his watch to make sure he didn't start early. "Okay, good morning everyone!" Daniel greeted them as a whole, giving them a small smile. "Yes, to those who aren't new this year, I switched jobs, I'm fickle like that, no, we don't need to discuss that further." He added, letting out a small chuckle.
"Today's lesson will be on unicorns - yes, you will get to pet them, but first, we need to learn about them. Can anyone tell me a use of a unicorn, there's more than one, so let's see if we can have a few people give it a go." Daniel prompted, looking around the group for answers. |

| Due to attending this class seven years now, and also spending lots of time reading, studying and researching in the library, the question Professor Jameson asked was something that she could answer.
After all, truth be told, unicorns indeed had lots of uses. Some were more pure and some were darker, but to Amethyst all seemed brutal and... well, mean. She didn't like to think that wands for example were made out of unicorns. Well, not exactly the unicorn itself but she still didn't like it.
Those creature were just so pure and beautiful that she could not believe someone would have the guts to do any harm to them. Though they could offer much power to some people. Dark power.
Clearing her throat, she decided to answer the question. "You can use their blood. But it has consequences, doesn't it ?" Amethyst knew the answer to that, but she didn't want to come off as if she knew all of these, so she decided to play a little dumb. It was safer that way. |

| Lux shifted her weight to the other foot just as the professor spoke up. She pretended to listen when really, she was imagining gruesome ways to kill the animal they were supposed to be studying. The reason why people liked unicorns so much eluded her. All the goodness radiating from them made her sick. The professor's chuckled brought her back to the present and she rolled her eyes.
The question made her pause, not because she didn't know the answer but because there were so many to choose from. She listened as the Hufflepuff girl answered. She'd chosen the blood. Lux swore mentally. She'd wanted to talk about the blood, her favourite part of anything living. Blood fascinated her and she kept a jar of it as part of her collection. She swore again.
She waited until the girl was done talking before speaking up, not bothering to show the courtesy of raising her hand first. "The horn is used in potions like the Antidote to Common Poisons," she answered, glancing at the animal's head weapon. She imagined cutting it off and using it to stab a hole in its flank. Her lips twitched in a smirk as her eyes returned to the professor. |

| Elenore was mortified. She was late - not because she'd overslept, no. Elenore had misread her timetable and instead of going out to the grounds, she'd walked up to the Ancient Runes classroom by mistake. Why she had done this, when everyone else her age was heading the opposite way, the French girl couldn't explain, but (for once in her life) Elenore felt foolish.
She was therefore also not prepared foe the lesson, because she had filled her bag with the wrong books, and she didn't have her dragon-hide gloves. Merlin she hoped they weren't going to need them.
As she moved in to the grounds, Elenore took in the light sun, a small smile touching her lips where the look of concern had been only moments before. Her legs were moving as fast as they could without running, or even looking anything less than graceful. She was late, but she would not make a scene, of that much she was confident.
"Je suis désolé pour mon retard." Elenore told the Headmaster - too busy in her worry of being late that she forgot to speak in English, rather than her common tongue. " Je veux dire...... I'm sorry for being late." Elenore explained to the professor, moving towards the group of people before her. It was then that Elenore saw the Unicorns before them, and she let out a small sigh.
Unicorns were not something Elenore found interesting. Too cliche. But, she supposed this was the joy of Care of Magical Creatures - the less fortunate got to see the things her father could make appear at any time. | |

| Daniel listened attentively to the answer that came from his students, nodding slightly as they continued along the right lines. "Correct, both of you!" Daniel replied to each of the witches who had supplied him with an answer. "The consequence of using the blood is that of a cursed life - if you consume it. But, the blood can keep you alive if you are close to death. Many think that the idea of a cursed life, instead of death, is enough to bring them to drink from a unicorn." Daniel explained to the class, hoping all of them would take heed of the information, and apply it appropriately.
"And the horn can definitely be used in Potions, and the one given by Lux is quite right." Daniel continued. "Unicorn hair is also used in wands, as well as bandages due to it's strength."
Motioning to the two unicorns behind him, Daniel was interrupted from continuing with the arrival of a Hufflepuff. Daniel couldn't help but smile as she spoke in French - a language he knew, but never used. "It's okay, you may join in." Daniel assured her, turning back to the lesson.
"You'll note we have a smaller, golden specimen - meaning the unicorn is less than two years old. From there, they grow to a silver colour until they're roughly seven when they turn white. Which you will see in the adult. Now, unicorns have funny temperaments, and prefer a woman's touch. Therefore, all the female students, please move towards the white unicorn - slowly does it, and you can pet her.
"Boys, you can try to go close to the gold unicorn, but be warned, they might nip you if they're not sure. Take notes, get a closer look, do as you please, except harm the creatures." Daniel explained, motioning them forwards. |
