Defense Against the Dark arts was an interesting class to Joshua. He appreciated any class where he could show people how much better than them he was. There were not many classes where he could do that because most people usually dominated the Hufflepuff when it came to anything that involved mental skill. He considered himself to be smart, but better at things such as spells and potions. He enjoyed being involved in lessons, not just hearing them.

When he looked to the board, an expression of slight confusion spread across his face. He found himself caught on the word revision. Why would the class spend an entire lesson on revising one they had already gone through? He saw it as pointless. Why should the students be forced to prove themselves at something that they had already done?

Joshua made his way to the back of the room, awaiting the beginning of the lesson.

Defense Against the Dark Arts was not a class that bothered Isaline all that much. It was better than classes such as Care of Magical Creatures. Care of Magical Creatures, now there was a useless class. At least Defense was a class in which students could learn skills they could actually use. Isaline figured that learning how to fight back was much more useful than learning the proper way to care for a crup. As she walked into the room, she looked to the board and let out a deep expression of concern; not quite a sigh, but somewhere between that and a groan.

Revision? This word drained out what small expectations she had had for these students when it came to skill. If they had to waste a class revising a lesson that these wizards and witches had already learned, the students had to have done an awful job, yes?

"This should be intéressant," she mumbled to herself.

It turns out that DADA was actually a great class, extraordinarily useful because it meant practical work. Practical work with dummies was certainly not as fun as practicing on people, but it still meant that Mel got to show off her skills. Impressing people was her forte, and necessary when it came to advancing in the world. As it happened, Mel knew that her DADA teacher was a very accomplished man, and could potentially provide connections in the wizarding future, if she so happened to need them. So she was indeed looking forward to DADA.

She entered the classroom and saw 'revision' on the board. Excellent. A simple class, with spells that she knew quite a lot about. A chance to impress without challenge. Mel always made sure to excel academically, she knew it was essential and that she couldn't just rely on daddy's connections for the rest of her adult life. That's why she did it.

And now was a golden opportunity to gain easy marks.

As the class filled with the older years, Jake replied to each acknowledgement that he was given with a soft hello and a warm smile. The kids were all great in this school, and Jake had time for all of them. If they needed help, he would be there for them, as he always was for anyone who needed help.

Today, though, he was quite sure the older years wouldn't need much help.

He knew revision wasn't fun, but seeing as the Stunning Spell was on the syllabus, he'd tried to make this a little more challenging for them. To keep them occupied. Yes, he was aware some people wouldn't be happy with that, but, it was his lesson, and if they didn't like it, they could always leave.

Harsh, but Jake was only trying to see them succeed.

As the second bell rang, Jake stood from his desk, and clapped his hands together to get the attention of his students. "Right, good morning everyone! Welcome back for another year at Hogwarts! Now, I'm not going to insult all of you by asking about the theory on the spell. You all know how the Stunning Spell works, the incantation and such things. So, we're going to jump straight in to the lesson.

"Today, as you may have noticed, I have set up separate areas for each of you to work in. Within each area is a dummy that you will, effectively, be duelling. They will move, they will spray water at you if you take too long to cast your spell. They can, also, deflect spells, so you will need to use your own resources, such as cunning, wisdom, and undeterred will to succeed." Jake explained, taking a pause.

"Now, I know, most of you are thinking this is a waste of your time, but you will have been taught at a younger level to hit a non-moving target. I've made this difficult." Once again, Jake gave a pause. "So, for anyone who manages to defeat their target, I have bought voucher worth 10 Galleons - that's fifty pounds to anyone who wants it in Muggle money - for Honeydukes. There are enough for each of you to take a prize.

"So, when you're ready, please begin." Jake explained, waving them each away to a separate station.

OOC: Please be realistic, this will not be a simple task. But, also have fun with it. You may use Shield Charms, as well, if you want, though extra credit will not be given.

Point will be awarded for a good display of the Stunning Spell - so Lux (Lydia), no destroying the dummies with other spells! :)

Lux turned her attention to Jake, feeling adrenaline rise in her as he explained what they would be doing. Of course, anyone with peas for brains could infer the activity for the day but vocalising it made everything seem more real somehow. She did not foresee losing. The only challenging thing would be landing the spell and dodging any of the ones the dummy shot back. She was light on her feet so that wouldn't be a problem.

Once Jake gave them the permission to start, Lux made her way to one of the dummies and gave it her iciest glare. "You're dying today," she said with a grin. "Enjoy your last moments." She took out her wand and immediately had to duck the spray of water that came her way. The stunning spell she aimed at the dummy's legs as she was crouched down did not hit it's mark. This dummy was quick.

Pushing herself back into a standing position, Lux found herself dodging, ducking and running as the dummy kept sending water jets her way. She hadn't gotten wet yet. The dummy was quick but she was quicker and it was time to go on the offensive. She dropped to the floor and rolled to avoid the stream of water, whispering and Everte Statum. As the dummy was thrown back, she sent the stunning spell his way, landing it right on his forehead. Lux got back to her feet only to realise the dummy had somehow reversed the spell by itself.

Merlin's hairy ass! Is this thing indestructible? she thought as she jumped to avoid the jet of water. She had to get behind it somehow and use that split second advantage to cast the spell. But how? Gritting her teeth and setting her jaw, Lux kept a constant stream of stunning spells on the dummy, forcing it to stop spraying water at her and dodge or protect itself. She took every opportunity to get closer, step by step. Too bad they couldn't use other spells. The dummy would have been dead if Lux had the freedom of using whichever spell she wanted.

She was a couple of meters away when she saw water coming from the dummy. Being that close to the dummy, she didn't have enough time to dodge the stream and let out a Muggle curse word, not caring if anybody heard her. This was the last straw; she wouldn't let a mere dummy defeat her in a duel. She faked a jump into the air, making the dummy shoot upwards as she crouched down, extended her leg and made it fall flat on its face.

Not giving it a chance to get up, Lux pointed her wand at it and stunned it over and over again until it stayed down. With an evil grin, Lux aimed her wand at the dummy and said, "Sectumsempra." She slashed it to bits of wood before grinning in victory.

Cole loved any class that meant he could use defence against dark magic since harming others was not right. Which made Cole pretty good with using his defensive magic and had thought it was needed due to the occurrences which seemed to pop up in History. The seventeen year old had made his way to Defence Against the Dark Arts, and he hoped he was not too late, since he had apologized enough as it was.

The seventh year soon entered to see the class had not been started too much, as he soon wondered what he could do and what fun he could have in the class. Since Cole loved having joy and not anything that was not fun. The seventh year had his wand in his back pocket as he entered to see they must have been casting spells and he soon managed to hear they would using stunning spell.

The seventeen year old soon heard that they would be giving an award for the best displayed spell and he smiled, he loved rewards, and also loved proving he was better than others as he soon said.

" Sorry I was late, but I promise to get right to work. " said Cole as he went to the closet dummy and he soon saw someone cast Secrumsempra on the dummy, and in his eyes at least it was not a human.

Soon Cole listened as they were told it was not easy so he wondered and soon Cole looked and he wondered if he could use Shield Charms to defend himself and perhaps play around with the dummy as he smirked, and said.

" Protego. " he shouted putting a shield around him and soon looked and he soon. " Come on going to attack? " asked Cole to the dummy ready to fire soon.

Sophie loved Defence Against the Dark Arts, as she soon made it a point to run and soon she hoped she could be able to use some of her magic since in past years it was not doing much dueling as she soon had arrived at the class. As well as knowing she was late since she heard spell casting from the door as she soon got in the room.

Then soon Sophie entered the room and saw there was spell casting as she saw dummies which seemed to be casting water as she hoped she would not get hit. As she soon looked and saw her professor and she said.

" I am sorry for being late. " said Sophie as she soon placed her stuff against the wall as she soon made it a point to watch and soon she realized they would be dueling dummies and they would cast water back at you and that it would be easy.

As she soon went to a dummy and she let out a smile as she knew she would have to play around with in order to win, and soon she decided perhaps you would cast a spell and have it go past it.

Soon after a few minutes, she soon watched as she soon said. " Stupefy. " and had it go past the dummy and hoped she would trick it and she soon looked and she soon attempted to fake a run and soon she looked and decided to cast a shield charm.

" Protego! " said Sophie as she casted it around her and soon she casted another Stunning Charm to trick, and as it seemed trick she let out a smirk and casted a final one.

" Stupefy" she said as she watched it hit the dummy, and knew that playing around would be quite fun and tricking it since tricking was a way to get things done.

Jake watched with a smile on his lips as the students worked on the task he'd given them. It seemed, for the most part that people were giving the task a good go, which made him very pleased. As always, it was good to see that the things he'd come up with were a good challenge - hopefully more realistic, and useful, in the wider world.

Moving round the room after a short moment, Jake offered encouragement and words of advice to those who were attempting the work load. Nobody asked him for help, so Jake simply congratulated those who completed the task, before noticing the smashed up dummy of Lux's. Letting out a small chuckle to himself, Jake moved over to her side - he hadn't seen which spell she'd used.

"I don't think that spell was the one we were practicing..." He said - not telling her off, because Jake would never crush the imagination, or natural talent of his students. Not unless it was going to cause harm. "But, very well done, on defeating the dummy." He added, just as the bell went.

"Okay, everyone, that's all for today, hopefully you have found it useful. No homework tonight, but please make sure you read up on the spell, and make sure you know the theory as well as the practical. Have a good weekend!" Jake insisted, motioning them out of the door.

Class Closed.
