Meet the Cassans (Future Nicanie)

Nico double-checked the mirror, eyes not traveling to his hair, instead lingering on his clothes of choice. It wasn't like him to particularly worry, but when it came to Stephanie, he always wanted to try, for some reason. She was, after all, a Pureblood, and even though she had been kicked out by her family (their loss, he had told her), she was still immaculate in her dressing and behaviour, and he always felt a need to live up to that.

The Christmas holidays had come, signaling the end of term for his 7th year. One more to go and they were done with school forever. He had his eyes set on a course, though, so it wasn't as though he would be left hanging.

Deciding what he had on was good enough, he hurried out of his common room, making his way down to the dungeons, eyes lighting up at once when they landed on his girlfriend waiting for him. It was the big day; he was taking her to meet his family, and it was unnerving, to say the least. He wasn't sure what they would think, although he was certain they wouldn't disapprove. Why would they, when Stephanie was so amazing?

"Hey Daphne," he greeted, moving to give her a quick peck on her cheek. They were in public, so he couldn't do more, though he wanted to. Stepping back, he gave her a lopsided grin. "Are you ready?"

It took Stephanie quite awhile to choose a dress. For once, she was at a loss deciding what to wear—unlike the Richardsons, the Cassans (or at least, from what she had seen of Nico, Adelaide and Felipe) didn't seem to worry too much about formality, so she figured an evening gown might be considered too much. Dressing too casually was not an option, either—she was about to meet her boyfriend's parents, after all, and she did not want them to think that she didn't care enough to put some effort in her appearance.

Deciding on a black, polo neck dress worn with a blazer and knee high boots, Stephanie stepped in front of the mirror to put on bright red lipstick. The look was still rather posh, yet casual enough to show the Cassans that she wouldn't be a bothersome, high-maintenance girlfriend to their youngest son. With one last slightly uncertain smile at the mirror, Stephanie turned away and walked out of the Slytherin Common Room to wait for Nico.

She would never admit it to Nico—or to anyone, really—but he never failed to take her breath away no matter what he wore. As he walked towards her and leaned in to give her a quick peck on the cheek, she couldn't help but smile up at him. Fortunately for her, years of being trained to control emotions helped her manage to look calm and composed despite her quickening heartbeat. Why she was so nervous, she couldn't figure out. She was used to meeting people and impressing them. That was, after all, how she managed to live comfortably despite having been disowned.

Nico would probably sense her nervousness. During their earlier years in Hogwarts, it was a trait she had found rather infuriating, but it was also that trait that helped Stephanie realise what she wanted from life. Hearing him call her 'Daphne', however, made her feel a bit better, even if she was still worried that she hadn't dressed well enough. That his family would see her and think she was just another spoiled, privileged brat. 'Yes, I'm ready,' she replied, smiling up at Nico as she reached for his hand. 'I mean... I look alright, do I? Does your mum hate makeup?'

Fully taking in his girlfriend, Nico's grin only widened. How had he managed to get her, of all people? She was gorgeous, and so amazing in so many ways, and every time he looked at her he felt like he was swept off his feet all over again, like the first time they held hands and the first time he looked her in the eyes and told her he loved her. The pounding of his heart, the way there were these flutters of nerves in his stomach, as though she was a weakness - and, in many ways, she was. In fact, if there was one thing that Nico was certain of, it was that he had gotten the better side of the whole thing; what did he have to offer Stephanie? Still, she had chosen to love him and not someone else, and that in itself was enough.

Glancing around, he made sure nobody was in the near vicinity before eyeing her up and down in an exaggerated manner, eyes twinkling in jest. "Hmmm," he mused, wrinkling up his nose as though scrutinising her properly. "Let me see." Raising a hand, he twirled a finger around, mimicking what he had seen on TV (not that he watched those sort of shows; it had been an advertisement) and then let out a laugh.

"You look perfect, Daphne, as always," he replied, this time being serious. Then, he grinned again. "How many times must I tell you not to worry? Mum's Pureblood, too; she knows your type." He knew the words would most likely irk the female, for it was obvious what she thought of being classified as that, but he enjoyed pushing his girlfriend's buttons in jest.

Reaching out to take her hand in his, he held them both and looked directly into her eyes. "Stephanie Richardson, there is absolutely no need to be so concerned. This is going to be fine." Letting go, he moved to stand beside her to get ready for the walk out to the road no longer protected by the no-apparation spell. "Anyway, you're a much better catch than that Malaysian. If mum can approve of him, she can approve of anyone."
