Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years) Empty

Josh was not an easily pleased young man. Becoming the Potions Substitute teacher should probably have been more rewarding to the eighteen year old, but it wasn't. The Slytherin found no joy in having to busy himself with idiots, but he'd found that there was little and less he could do to get out of it.

Since his appointment, Josh had insisted that the house elves come to the room and scrub it from floor to ceiling. No corner had been left untouched, and the dungeon room looked almost eerie in it's cleanliness. It was just how Josh had expected it.

A cauldron sat at each desk, assigned to only one person per desk because he didn't want talking. A copy of the textbook needed had been put on everyone's desk so that he couldn't have excuses of not being properly equipped too.

Shrinking Potion was noted on the board in Josh's neat, cursive handwriting, and the Slytherin stood behind his desk, his cold gaze on the door, waiting for the first of his students to arrive. If they wasted his time, they would soon wish they hadn't, he would make sure of that.

After hearing that Joshua Murray was going to be taking over on the Potions lesson, Finley had been terrified of going to class. The only reason why he'd decided to actually go was because he was more terrified of what the older Slytherin would do if he didn't go. Josh had never hurt Finley, nor spoken to him, but Finley just got the feeling that the older Slytherin was someone who could hurt you quite easily.

That was enough to make the little Ravenclaw boy stay out of the older boy's way as much as possible. And he didn't even want to think about the rumors he'd heard.

Entering the class, Finley moved (uncharacteristically) right to the back of the classroom, noting the book already there as he took a seat. The Ravenclaw was too terrified to speak, so simply sat looking at the book and hoping not to offend Josh by staying silent in that moment.

If there was one person Kellin Renwick was afraid of, it was Joshua Murray. When he heard about the seventh year teaching Potions classes, he was completely terrified. Josh had never given Kellin the time of day, but maybe it was Josh's muscular build and his blood status that made the fifth year reluctant to even go near him. Potions suddenly became a mandatory class, because only Merlin knows what Josh Murray would do if you were even one minute late to class. He quickly straightened his robes, hoped they looked formal enough, and put them on. The Eagle headed out to the dungeons, trying not to look nervous.

He was surprised to see that the classroom was completely spotless, Kellin thought that the Potions Classroom hadn't looked so clean in decades. "Good morning, Professor Murray." he said as he took a seat in the back, far away from the man who was a pathetic excuse for a professor. The young man opened up his textbooks and started reading the fine text about the Shrinking Potion, trying to to freak out. But, who was he fooling? It was completely obvious that the Raven and the other boy in the classroom were frightened to death.

Rhys made his way to Potions, this would be the first time he had taken the class, his father always seemed to be brewing potions at home, so Rhys was hoping that this subject should come second nature to him. As he entered the class, he saw two fellow Ravenclaws from older years, though it did strike him as odd that they were sitting up the back.

The young boy then noticed the older boy at the front of the room, he looked a little young to be a professor, in fact Rhys could have sworn that he was a student here. Not giving that thought to much attention Rhys sat in the row in front of the two boys, after placing his wand on the table he turned around.

"Hey, I'm Rhys I think I have seen you guys around the Common room once or twice, oh and speaking of the Common room, wasn't last night's riddle hard to figure out. It took me a good fifteen minutes to work the answer was a mushroom" Rhys said cheerily, while his eyes darted between the two boys.

Potions was a weird subject but compulsory. Felix had found it to be too similar to either cooking or science she'd briefly studied in the muggle school her parents sent her to. So naturally she wasn't all that excited by the subject till she overheard someone mentioning some of the effects potions could do. Even then she had walked to class without her usual enthusiasm and slipped in quietly. She was confused not seeing a teacher present, instead she saw the older Slytherin she'd seen in Herbology behind the teacher's desk. she shot him a questioning look, her lower lip pouting while she tried to work out what was going on.

She shrugged and looked around, the ravenclaws beat her to class again, not that she minded, she picked a desk in the middle of the room and sat down but her seemingly endless energy was making her look around and fidget, looking in the textbook and at the cauldron, wondering if she should take stuff out or wait for instructions.

Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years)   Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years) EmptyWed Feb 04, 2015 12:26 pm

Potions was, in a word, boring. It wasn't because she couldn't do it - it was one of her good subjects - it was simply because it was, well, dull! There was no challenge, no excitement in following instructions. Indeed, the only fun came was when she did something wrong and exploded classrooms and whatnot. But there had been gossip going around that their new Professor was not one to mess around with, and Madison planned on putting on her best behaviour, no matter how much it pained her to.

This was one of her subjects, which meant she was the one to go and take notes for her sister. It was quite fair, really, considering that Maddie was good at potions if she put her mind to it (which she rarely did). Despite the fact that she found it absolutely dull, Melody had History of Magic, which she was good at. So, the system was all in place, because both had an equal amount of classes they hated and loved.

Entering the place, her eyes drifted towards the older Slytherin standing in front - their Professor. He looked rather harmless (but she knew not to let this fool her; after all, the same could be said for her and her twin), except for his eyes. They held a sense of power, of indifference, of something deadly. A cold, almost icy blue, they looked as though they didn't miss a thing, despite the fact that they were not scanning the room. This man was not someone to anger, or get on the bad side off, Maddie could tell at once, even as she walked calmly down to the first row and took her seat.

He demanded attention, and at the same time, seemed to push everyone and everything away, and Madison was at once taken completely by him. Not in a lovey-dovey crush way that some girls did, no. Madison was above such foolish things - and so was her twin. Rather, Maddie at once took a liking to the Slytherin, admiring him for what he could do without even saying a thing. She was completely sure of the fact that the man knew what he could do - what he was doing - and it only increased her liking. Maybe potions wouldn't be too boring, as long as something interesting happened. And she was very good at making things happen.

Her only problem was to ensure that it didn't anger the prefect in front of the class, for she knew it would be practically suicide. Tread lightly, and watch each step. Test the water with one foot, never two, and always, always have an escape route, she mentally prepared as her mouth opened and she genuinely happily said, "Hello, Professor Murray."

PostSubject: Re: Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years)   Potions - Lesson Two (First to Fifth Years) EmptyTue Feb 10, 2015 7:19 pm

As students began to fill the classroom, Josh didn't acknowledge anyone who entered. Such trivia was not for the likes of men such as himself. Instead, the Slytherin prefect stood as still as a statue, counting in his head until the time in which the lesson would begin. He'd picked up on the talking from the beginning and allowed the Ravenclaw his moment, looking forward to putting his intentions out before the class from the beginning.

As the final second was finally counted, Josh took out his wand, flicking it towards the door which slammed shut with more force than was ever necessary. Point one made. "Mr Buckshaw, face the front, and be quiet." Josh drawled a moment later, his voice not raising from the cold tone that most associated with the blond. "Everyone take note that from here on in there will be no need to talk unless you are speaking to me. This room is for concentration, and I will kick anyone out who does not feel they have to comply to rules. I would suggest that if you believe you will struggle with this that you leave now."

There was a pause, Josh's eyes moving across the students as if daring them to stand and leave, or even to speak.

"Things will be different under my teaching, I don't stand for mess, I don't stand for impudence, and I don't stand for laziness. We are studying the Shrinking Potion this lesson. Now, without focusing on the obvious, someone please tell me what they know about this potion." Josh commanded, looking around the room for the person who was going to answer him first.

Rhys jumped when he heard the door slam, he was about to make a comment when the Professor told him to turn around in a sharp tone. The boy boy did as he was asked, the Professor then gave his speech stating that this was a no talking class, Rhys had never had a class like this and couldn't understand why they couldn't make small talk after all this was a classroom not a library.

When Rhys heard they would be learning how to brew the Shrinking Solution he had to hold back a giggle, as for he remembered how his father always use to say that if he didn't behave as a young child he would make Rhys have a bath in Shrinking Solution.

The Professor asked what the students knew about the potion, Rhys's hand quickly shot up, though there was no real reason for him to put his hand up since he started speaking straight away

"The Shrinking Solution obviously makes thing smaller, and unlike some potions it doesn't need to be consumed for the potion to take its effect, you can simply pour it on an object or person and they will shrink, rumour has it if you use enough of the potion you can potentially shrink a person or object out of existence, but I don't think this has been proven" Rhys said with a bit of giggle as he imagined someone shrinking so much they no longer existed.

Naomi slipped into class just in time for the door to slam shut behind her. She jumped and squeaked, putting a hand to her pounding heart before sliding into the nearest desk as quietly as possible. She stared down at the book on her desk as the Professor started class. At least... she thought he was the Professor and he was certainly acting like it, though he looked too young to hold the post.

Raising her head a little to stare past Professor Murray's head as he talked, Naomi was surprised at the brutal rules the young man was laying down. She understood respect for the classroom and the professor, but this seemed a little out of hand. Studying the board as her fellow Ravenclaw answered the question, she gathered her own thoughts on what little she knew of the potion and raised her hand when Rhys finished. "It not only causes the object to become smaller, it also causes it to go into a 'younger form,'" se said, her voice quiet, though loud enough to hear.

The boy, whom Josh had already noted for not being completely capable of following rules (they hadn't been spoken, but Josh didn't much care for that) was the first to answer, almost the same instant Josh had nodded for him to speak, the boy was talking. Josh merely nodded once in respect to the answer before another Ravenclaw was speaking.

The answer was a little more informed, which meant the witch had been doing her reading. Good.

"Right, both answers are correct." Josh told the room as a whole, not in anyway encouraging of either student. "The solution will be green in colour if you brew the potion correctly, otherwise it will be highly poisonous. No one is to try their solution, I will test and grade it myself. You have until the end of the lesson to complete this assignment. You do not need to talk, you will work alone. Raise your hand if you need assistance." Josh explained as the instructions appeared on the board behind him.

"Begin."
