| Janet snorted and nodded. "Yes, it was awful, and yes I saved the book but it took time to find the spell and because I took so long finding it the pages are now stained, though at least I can see the words and I can write them out again later."
Marcus then asked if she wanted to be an author, to which Janet nodded. "Well, that's the plan. I If can ever get this first book up and running. How about you? Any huge life plans, dream jobs?" She grinned and leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs and hoping to be distracted at least slightly from herself and her own thoughts.
Janet smiled at the waiter and thanked him before returning her attention back to Marcus. "So what do you like to do, hobby wise?" She tucked a piece of hair behind one ear, twirling the end of it as she listened, nodding. |

| She seemed to have loosened up, becoming comfortable around him. "Oh, that's good!" He said, brightening at the news that she had managed to salvage her writing.
"I'm sure you can do it, if that's what you're passionate about," he nodded. And then she turned the tables, and he had think quickly. What were Marcus's plans for the future?
"Um, well, I'm currently at university," he started. So far so good, and not even a lie. What did he know about Marcus so far? He had a younger sister, and wasn't great at charms. "I'm not really sure what I'll major in yet, I'm mostly taking preliminary courses, searching around. I'm thinking something in the arts, I dunno. I like music," he said, nodding to the band that was playing on the other side of the room.
As for hobbies, he shrugged a little. "I listen to a lot of bands like this. I'm a drummer, though I tried picking up electric guitar a little while ago. Probably won't be a future in that, to be honest," he chuckled. "Um...not sure what else to say. I watch a lot of movies, I guess."
"How about you? Besides writing, is there anything else you like to do?" |

| Janet nodded as well. "I think I can do it, just have to work for it." She listened as he talked, head tilted. She chuckled. "Yeah, that seems to be where most people start. They just take the main stuff until they figure out what to major in. Music is cool, yeah. Do you prefer a specific genre?"
Janet grinned as he mentioned he was a drummer. "Oh really? That's pretty cool. I play the violin, ever since I was a little kid. I never really tried any other instrument, but I always was interested in the cello. She shrugged, but knew she would never kind the actual time, nor the motivation to actually start a new instrument.
"Yeah, I like movies too! What kind do you watch? Like, romance, sci-fi, comedy, action?" Janet grinned at Marcus. She herself watched mostly Disney movies, she even had a Disney tattoo on her hip.
"Let's see, writing, violin, movies, that covers a lot of it, I'm a huge reader! I've read every book in the local library, and am working on a bookstore in Diagon Alley. The owner pretty much just lets me read whole shelves of books." She fiddled with the glass containing her drink, not exactly nervous, but still wanting to wait for Marcus to drink before she attempted the task herself. |

| Kenny nodded. "Rock, definitely. Mostly classic rock. I mean, I like other stuff too, like movie scores and classical music, but it's not as easy to jam to, ya know?" He reached for his firewhiskey and swilled it around in its glass, but didn't drink it just yet. He liked it all right, but he saw Janet wasn't touching hers, and he usually liked to mimic the vibe of whomever he was talking to.
He tilted his head with interest as she spoke about playing the violin. "Really? I love the violin. I could never play it though. I'm not so great with stringed instruments in general. When I was little, I used to want to play the violin, but I gave up pretty quickly when I realized how much work it would be," he laughed.
"You'd think learning the cello would be easier if you already know the violin. I think you could do it if you really wanted to. Maybe one summer you could give it a shot," he encouraged her with a slight smile.
"Oh, I watch all kinds! Mostly action and sci-fi, I guess. And, um..." What did he know a lot about? If this was potentially going to turn into a topic of conversation, he had to know what he was talking about. Probably best to draw from movies he'd really watched. What was the last thing he'd watched? Oh, as Scott, he'd invited a guy over and they'd watched the live-action Beauty and the Beast a couple weeks ago. Was that something Marcus would watch? Sure, why not. A rocker who liked Disney movies. Everybody's got a soft side.
"I like Disney movies." He said with a one-sided shrug and a slightly embarrassed glance to the side. "Used to watch them with my sister all the time."
"Wow, really?" he commented as she started talking about books. "That takes commitment. How many books were in that library? Do you prefer any particular genre?"
As she replied, he finally took a short sip of his firewhiskey, savoring the burn as it went down. |
