| The assurance that Azalea wouldn't wake up brought a small smile to the man's lips, one that would look like encouragement to the woman before him, or else make him look like he believed her. But really the smile was one of knowing, because Azalea had not woken up from her sleep once when she'd been sleeping next to him. It was one of those things that was a given in this odd relationship that had been established for them.
"We'll figure something out," Jake echoed Azalea's statement about her dad. He was sure, though, that despite Azalea's thoughts on the matter, Kit would not be calling them tomorrow. Something he didn't know about was going on, something Clara didn't want to share, and that was keeping the Harrington's apart at the moment.
With time, the two people inside the room, who had been forced together, might actually know what that was, but in that moment, they were blissfully unaware of what was happening in the outside world.
As Azalea climbed in to bed, Jake moved out the way for her to be able to pull the blanket in to place, his eyes falling away from the witch as she denoted that she could take it from here. "Yeah, yeah, sorry. Too used to putting the kids to bed." Jake explained in way of his presence, watching Azalea get settled on the pillows as he moved only to the window to check the curtains were drawn. By the time he looked round, ever so careful in his movements, Azalea's eyes were closed, and her shoulders were slowly relaxing, the tension of the day leaving her small frame.
A small smile touched Jake's features, despite himself. Azalea Harrington might not be a welcome part of his life at the moment, but he couldn't help but feel glad she was getting better. The sooner she was better, the sooner she would be gone. The sooner this whole farce would be over. They would still see one another because of Mimosa, of that much he was aware, but soon enough, Azalea would not be his burden.
Moving the blanket and duvet so that it covered Azalea's shoulders, Jake moved to the other side of the bed and carefully laid down beside the witch. A couple of clicks on his watch, and a silent alarm would wake him at five the next morning. He would be out of the room before Azalea woke, his bed would be mussed in his own room to pretend he'd been sleeping on his own, and the lie would continue on.
Because this is the mess you've got yourself in, Jake, you just couldn't have said no, could you? ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~ | |
