Winter Term :Muggle Studies: Dominique

Dominique decided that she was going to take Muggle Studies. And it wasn’t because she thought that she was better than a muggle. She just wanted to know more about them. So she was curious that today's lesson they would be learning about muggle farming. She followed her classmates as they were being led to a place where it was made to look like a muggle farm.

Dominique was amazing as she was a city girl and didn’t grow up around farms. So she knew that she was going to hang on every word that the professor said. Looking around she noticed all of the different farm animals. She knew that she was going to learn what it would be like on a working farm. Professor Miller explained how farming how it worked. And how this was how muggles would get fresh vegetables.

 Dominique learned that it was more than just going to a store. She learned that someone had to grow it. And she knew that this was going to be the first thing that would make her rethink how easy her life was. Dominique wasn’t even bothered that she was going to be getting her clothes dirty. This was something different and she wanted to just live in the moment.

Dominique was learning that planting meant more than just digging a hole in the ground. You have to have special equipment to make it to the plant. This was called plowing and was even told how they used to do it in the past. Which this was something that she was going to make notes about. Because she wanted to know how different it was. She was taking everything in because it was different than how she grew up. There was a small patch of dirt that was already plowed up.

Professor Miller explains how they were going to get to actually plant something. Which this was making Dominique excited as she was getting the chance to grow something. She was listening as she was doing what she was told. Which she had to make a small hole. Which meant that she would have to kneel on the ground. Dominique wasn’t worried that she was going to have to get the dirt out of her clothes. That was what a house-elf was for. As she was making her small hole she had excitement on her face.

Is she putting herself in someone's shoes who grew their own food to eat. And she had no idea what she was even planting, which really didn’t matter to her. The fact that she planted something made her feel happy. Dominique then was told that it would have to need water to help it to grow. Then she would have to wait to see what it was. But she was told that she would have to come back to continue to take care of it.

There was more than just putting a seed in the ground and watering it. She was told that she would have to come back and make sure there were no weeds. And with all the hard work she would finally see all of her work mean something.

Professor Miller encouraged to walk around and notice all of the farm animals. Dominique knew that she was going to want to see all of them. Looking around she had no idea what she wanted to see first. As there were chickens, ducks, sheep there was more but that was the first ones that caught her eye.

But she then found herself walking towards the chickens. As she was watching them from outside their pen. Which she got excited when she was told that she could feed them. And was given some chicken food to throw into the pen. She then watched as they would all run over to that spot. This was making her giggle as it was funny. Dominique then was told of everything that they could eat. But that is when she learned where eggs came from. Which was something that Dominique love to eat for breakfast. She had no idea that they came from chicken butts. But she was telling herself that she knew that it was clean.

This seemed like a crash course it everything that she thought she knew. And this was making her realize that she was spoiled in some areas. Shew knew that she was in for a rude awaking. But she knew that now she knew more about where the food comes from it would help. Because she was never really sure where it came from. She just knew that it was in her refrigerator growing up. At least she knew that there was work behind all of this.

And she was told how much they would have to do on a working farm. And how there was early to rise and feed all the animals. Then would have to do it all again in the evening. Dominique learned that it was a lot of hard work living on a farm.

Dominique was wandering around till she found herself at the barn. That is where she found out that was where the horses were. This was something that she was familiar with. Because she has gone horseback riding before. But it wasn’t too long before Professor Miller found her there. And that was when he explained the whole care behind a horse.

Dominique really had no idea. And a horse had to put in a lot of care. She was trying to listen as she was looking at the beautiful horse in front of her. Looking around she notices a black longhair cat. She was told that it was a barn cat. And its job was to keep all the mice out. As she was told what a mouse could do. It was making sense to Dominique.

She was living in the moment as took her time to walk around and see all the different farm animals. But she knew soon it would be time to go back up to the castle. But she wasn’t going to let her forget about her wonderful time in class. When she was walking back she was thinking about everything Professor Miller had said.
