The first lesson hadn't been too bad, in James' mind. A little slow to begin with, but it had picked up. Today, James hoped, would be just as good as the previous lesson, if not a little better. The room had been cleaned to perfection - just how he liked it, and the elves had stacked a neat fire in the fireplace to take the cold air out of the dungeon classroom.

A cage sat at the front, with a dog inside it, who was asleep. James had borrowed his parent's dog for the lesson, and they didn't seem to mind.

Though, that might have had something to do with them not actually knowing.

The board read the day's lesson, Shrinking Solution. It would be a little bit of fun, James decided, to see if any of the class could get the potion to work. Leaning against his desk, James waited for the class to fill up, arms crossed over his chest, but not nearly as tense as he'd been in his first lesson.

Bennett was not a fan of Professor Balance for two reasons. One, he was a pretty type of man. The kind that his mother usually fell for when she was younger. The kind that ended up being a child. A Peter Pan, almost. Two, Bennett just didn't like the man. No real reasoning behind it, he just didn't like the man. Therefore, Bennett had taken his time in getting from Runes to Potions, but it had apparently not been enough as he was the first student in Balan's class.

And there was a dog in the middle of the room, which gave Bennett a bad vibe, and he wasn't even one to believe in vibes. Nevertheless, it wasn't his business. The professor probably had a dog and had decided to bring the canine to class to show off to the girls because they liked that kind of stuff. Well, who didn't like dogs? Still, Bennett took at the front, pretty close to the dog and greeted the professor out of good manners. "Professor." Bennett nodded as he took out his notes from last class, skimmed through them and opened up a new page for the day's lesson.

Happy to not be late to class for a change, Felix trotted into the room, "Morning Prof-" She cut herself off when her eyes saw the dog in the room and her greeting turned into a squeak and she ran to the furthest corner of the room. This was almost as bad as being chased by three headed puppies last year. She looked at the other boy in the class then the professor and her cheeks turned scarlet. So much for Gryffindor bravery.

She wanted to find a seat but her legs had locked in place, not wanting to get any closer to the dog. This was the last place she expected to see one, care of magical creatures maybe, but not in a potions classroom. She couldn't move and felt a whimper get stuck in her throat. She felt utterly pathetic but there was something about dogs that terrified the living hell out of her, that and being allergic to their fur didn't help. Getting even one on her would make her rather itchy all day, and cause a lot of sneezing and accidental magic.

The trek from Runes down to Potions was a long one, but it was made easier with the company of your best friend. Even though he and Naomi hadn't spoken on their descent from the tower, Finley enjoyed her company. They understood one another enough to know they didn't need to always be talking to be happy.

Which was a plus, because Finley wasn't a very big talker anyway.

Slipping in to the classroom, holding the door for Naomi, Finley motioned to the table at the back they'd shared the time before. Finley was quite sure Naomi would be happier there anyway, even if it wasn't their normal choice.

However, it was as Finley moved to the table that he noted Felix, looking... well, quite terrified, looking back to the professor, Finley noted the dog in the room and then looked back to the Gryffindor. "A-are you okay?" Finley asked, not sure what had spooked her. Maybe she found Professor Balan scary like Naomi did? Who knew.

Today was going to be a good day! Hailey could feel it in her little bones. She pulled her hair into a pony tail, and put on her Slytherin robes. She smiled in the mirror and headed down to breakfast. First class of the day was potions. Hailey was alright at potions. She wasn't going to grow up and be the best potioneer in the world, but she wasn't half bad. After stuffing some bacon down her throat, she headed down to the dungeons.

When Hailey got to the dungeons she smiled and waved at the professor and then saw the dog. Hailey freaked out! Where they going to turn it into an alien!? WAS THERE A SPELL FOR THAT? Hailey was freaking out inside. So many mixed emotions where going through her like electricity! She saw a couple new faces. She didn't want to ruin her seemingly perfect reputation and go blabbing about aliens, but Bennett was there. He already knew of her weirdness. But she decided she didn't care about what he thought. So she asked, "PROFESSOR, ARE WE TURNING THAT INTO AN ALIEN? IS IT ALREADY AN ALIEN IN DISGUISE!? THEY DO THAT YOU KNOW."

Hailey was already aware of the weird looks she was getting. She tried to be normal, but being normal was so boring. And if she tried to be normal, her cover would've been blown by Bennett anyways. So there really was no point.

Emilia had walked into class just in time to see the Alien obsessed girl Hailey, freak out over the dog. Emilia stifled a giggle and smiled to the dog, though it was sleeping. She hoped they wouldn't do anything to hurt it, but then she told herself that a Hogwarts professor would never hurt and animal and she was okay. "Goodmorning Professor," she nodded her head before turning to take a seat in roughly the same spot as last time., the middle of the room. Potions didn't hold her interest enough for her to sit in the front, but she didn't lack interest, meaning she wouldn't skip or sit in the back. She was a good student, who wanted to learn and do well.

Finally, she looked up to the board and read the lesson for the day. She understood now, why the dog was needed. Hopefully she could brew this potion or solution or whatever right so she wouldn't poison the poor thing. She was shocked last lesson to learn that her potion had turned out good, but she assumed she shouldn't have been. After all, she did follow the instructions as written, so if it wasn't right then it technically was not her fault.

Potions seemed like a rather safe class, not too hard to study for and useful for future situations. Actually, nothing hard for Aristotle to study, maybe only Flying but he was still trying his best. With his books in hand, he walked slowly from one class to another before finally finding his way to the dungeons. He disliked that place as he always seemed to get lost. There were quite a few people there already, which didn't surprise him at all, but he wanted to get better at arriving earlier to his classes.

Two of the boys from Flying were there, and the two girls with the blonde hair had attended as well. Two new faces were present, though. One was a copper-skinned girl with incredibly curly hair, and the other was blond as well, but with a softer look. He had arrived in the middle of the first girl's speech, something about turning the dog into an alien. Had it not been for her, Aristotle would have never noticed the dog in the classroom. Why would a dog be useful in potions? He wondered to himself, too shy to ask outloud. Walking past the students, Aristotle chose a seat slightly farther apart from the crowd.

Alberi walked to class. He was slightly glad, for now. After the incident with a hippogriff he thought he'd be laughed at. Then again, he literally began to be always in the library and walked in the corridors with his head down, at least so his face couldn't be seen. It helped, mostly because no one seen him. He also went to sleep and woke up early, so he couldn't meet his dorm mates. The thing was that he hardly was eating though, having only breakfast and stealing some food for later.

But now there was lesson. And there he couldn't keep his head down, sadly. He'd just stay at the front where he'll be away from the others at the back and hop the professor doesn't know about what happened. He walked into the room. "Greetings, professor." he said and noticed the dog. That stopped him quickly. He hated dogs. They were loud, barked, they bite and eat people. He had a rather fear from them. He really had a fear to all animals, without cats. Cats are great. He hoped that the dog wouldn't be let out... His face went rather pale while watching the dog sleep. It'll feel his fear and start to bark... He took a deep breath and walked to a free table away from the dog, still keeping his eyes on it. Was this school full of animals at every corner, just waiting to attack you? Alberi hoped not.

Naomi walked to Potions with Finley mainly in a comfortable silence. They were coming from Runes, a class that frustrated Naomi as it was the only one she wasn't at least marginally good in. Her runes either produced no results at all, like today, or overreacted, as her fire rune had.

At least Naomi wasn't nervous around Professor Balan anymore. The man must have just been in a bad mood before their first class, but during the lesson he had been a kind of neutral that Naomi expected from teachers, ready to give light praise to students who'd done well or correct students who were having problems. As she slipped into class ahead of Finley, she even managed a smile of greeting to the man.

Finley gestured to the table they had sat in before and Naomi shrugged. It was alright by her. However, as she followed him, Finley stopped to ask Felix if she was alright. The Gryffindor did look rather nervous, but before Naomi could join in the conversation, a young Slytherin girl walked in and started spouting some nonsense about aliens. While Naomi kept an open mind and believed that some alternate life form most likely did exist somewhere in the Universe, she also didn't think one had visited Earth, let alone turned itself into a dog.

Naomi was irritated enough that she actually spoke up. "By the very definition of what an alien is, it's impossible to turn any sort of Earthly creature into one," she told the girl with a frown. "And I highly doubt that any alien, even if one did possess the power, would turn itself into a dog that was about to be used to test basic potions."

The first to arrive to the lesson was a Hufflepuff, Bennett if he remembered correctly, who greeted him. James simply nodded back in the boy's direction to show he'd heard but didn't speak. He wasn't the type of professor to get pally with his students. The next student looked a little scared, James simply watched the witch, before the Ravenclaw who'd done well the previous lesson spoke to her.

She'd be okay, James assumed.

The next to arrive was a Slytherin witch, who made quite the entrance. James' face turned stony at the idea of turning a dog in to an alien, or an alien even being in the room. However, James was saved from dealing with the idiocy when a Ravenclaw witch, the other Ravenclaw who'd done well, spoke up.

"Thank you, everyone. No, the dog is not an alien. There are no aliens in the castle. Please, do not think that such ideas are welcome in this classroom." He told the Slytherin witch, waiting for the commotion to die down.

"Okay, I think we are okay to continue. For those of you that have used your eyes, and perhaps your brain, you will have seen today's topic is the Shrinking Solution. Now, for those who have their brains engaged, who can tell me what the potion does?" James asked, looking around for an answer, and hoping for no further outbursts.
