The Cleanse (Basilisk Attack Thread. PG-13 for violence and death)

The attack that suddenly happened had caught the Ravenclaw Witch off guard as she was, unfortunately, stuck in the courtyard, enjoying the slowly warming weather that Febuary brought and trying hard to not think of her impending due date. Her baby was already ready to be born and while she was looking forward to the birth, she was not looking forward to the pain that would happen.

Cursing under her breath, the witch brandished her wand and moved silently through the courtyard, making sure to cast a Muffilito to silence her steps before pushing herself as close to the walls of the school as she could. It didn't take an idiot to figure out that the school was being attacked.

It's probably the Basilisk's she thought with a wince on her pretty face as she shuffled across the wall, making sure to peer through the different windows before her eyes found the two younger students huddled inside one of the empty rooms. Cursing softly again, she realized that they were probably second or third years, meaning that they weren't all that ready to fight anyone, much less grown wizards and witches ready to eradicate Purebloods.

Narrowing her eyes, she peered closer and cursed softly when she recognized the two students in there.

Naomi O'Hare, a third year Ravenclaw and Jacques Clement, a second year Slytherin. One a Halfblood and the other a Pureblood.

Knocking on the window, she waited for one of the two to notice her. She had to get them out of there. The school was much too dangerous to be inside now, at least for Jacques it was. And while she was not exactly ready to fight for anyone's lives, due to her pregnancy, she could not, in good conscious leave the two in there. The Basilisks would find them and Jacques would be dead within seconds. She did not wish to see the second year dead.

The due date of Adaline and his child was quickly approaching and Kai found himself losing it more often now, though mostly away from her. He had learned that stressing was something pregnant woman shouldn't do so he tried not to stress around her and for the most part it worked. However, every time he saw how large he was and every time he felt their baby kick, he was reminded of the short amount of time left.

Kai had been pacing one of the corridors when the headmaster's voice called out. However, being the person he was, the common room was the last place he'd go. In fact, he'd scan the entire campus first because Adaline had to be safe. He couldn't risk losing her and it'd hurt even more to lose her and their kid. So when the call ran out, Kai ran out to the grounds.

Adaline loved being outdoors, that was something everyone knew and that was his first place to check. Casting a spell to silence his footsteps and holding his wand at the ready, he sprinted across the grounds. Her large form gave her away but also did her hair. He could recognise the long, black hair from miles away.

He wanted nothing but to call out to her and ask her what she thought she was doing and WHY she was staring into a window but he kept quiet because it could mean life or death. Finally, after what felt like forever, he made it to her and saw the two younger students. She was trying to help them. He wanted nothing more than to drag her to his common room, but what if the castle was no longer safe? No words were exchanged between them, but he knew that she knew what he would say. He would protect her no matter what.

Naomi's anger melted as Jacques stopped yelling and just kind of folded in on himself. "I don't want to die either, so we're not going to," she said firmly. He looked kind of pitiful and Naomi felt kind of bad that she had slapped him earlier. Although it had gotten him to focus on getting away and not panicking so much.

"We're gonna be fine. The teachers know what they're doing and they'll protect us." Naomi didn't want to mention that her spells on the door wouldn't hold up to much bombardment. After all, she was only a third year, no matter how well she knew her defense.

Just then, there was a rap on the window. Naomi spun towards the sound and had her wand out in a second before noticing that it was only another student, the pregnant Ravenclaw. Adaline, Naomi thought. "Come on, let's move somewhere safer," she told Jaques, opening the window and slipping out easily. She felt safer now that she was no longer the oldest student in the group, even though Adaline was so heavily pregnant that she probably shouldn't be on her feet at all. Besides, she saw another older student, Kai, running up as well, so they would be much safer.

"We should leave the castle, if we can make it out," she said as soon as her feet touched the ground. "They'll think that all the students are in the castle, so that's where they'll put most or all of their people. We could probably reach the Forest in the dark."

The girl's words meant little to Jacques. She didn't understand why he didn't want to die. He had so much to live for... so much to do, so much to become. And the whole idea was crumbling around him and he was... well, scared.

When a knock came at the window, Jacques jumped so much in that moment, he was more than relieved it had been someone that didn't wish to kill him. He'd have been dead if the witch in the window wasn't who was stood there.

The insistence that they go was not one that Jacques agreed with. He was safe here. They had barricaded the door, they could do the same to the window and it would be safe. But Naomi was already up and out the window before he could say no. Looking sheepishly towards where the door had been, and the window where they were being enticed to exit through, Jacques sat for a long moment, weighing up the ideas.

It was Naomi's words of getting out of the castle, and the grounds, that prompted Jacques to move. If the Basilisks were in the castle, the best place for him was out of it. Pushing himself to his feet, and ignoring the shaking of his legs, Jacques climbed through the window.

Lowering himself to the floor, Jacques pushed past the three of them - not really noticing, or caring that Adaline was pregnant. His feet were moving in the direction of the forest, not waiting for the others to follow him, because he was the only one in danger, he was the only one who mattered, and they could be lost before the Basilisks reached him.

Jacques did not have to think twice about that.

Adaline's lips pursed when she saw Naomi climbing out of the window and then Jacques following her however when he just pushed past them, the Ravenclaw witch frowned and shot forward to grab a hold of the second years arm and tugged him harshly backwards.

"Jacques Clements, you will slow down and walk between me and Kai before you get lost and get yourself killed and this time no-one will be there to save you." The witch scolded the younger boy and gave him an unimpressed glare that spoke of how much she did not like his attitude. "Just because it's the purebloods that are being attacked doesn't mean you have any right to just run off and leave us to worry about you. This is not some type of game you know." She chided him. "Any one of us could lose our lives here. The Basilisks may be aiming for the Purebloods but the Muggleborns and Halfbloods will die too as this a battle and no-one knows what happens in battle." She narrowed her eyes. "So you better stay with us where Kai and I can protect you and Naomi better. Understood?"

Adaline's eyes narrowed even more upon the second year and she was tapping her wand against her leg while silently setting up silencing charms around Naomi and Jacques so that they wouldn't be heard by the Basilisks that may be lurking on the grounds.

When the brat child took forever to climb through the window, Kai himself almost climbed into the window and drug him out. Kai couldn't stand the thought of the boy putting his family in danger more than his family was already in danger. Scared or not, heir or not, no one had the right to be a dick. However, when the kid finally did climb through, he stormed ahead and Kai smirked as his girlfriend got ahold of him.

The kid was jerked back so fast that Kai almost laughed. It was something he deserved. No kid in their right mind would storm ahead in the middle of an attack and Adaline was right. They were all in danger right now. The spells could miss and hit any of them, not just the Pureblood. When Adaline had finished scolding the boy, Kai took ahold of his arm in a tight grip. "Stop stressing people out kid," he glared at the boy, "especially her." He pointed to his girlfriend.

"If the stress that you put her under causes any issues with that baby, I will find you," he threatened, a cold, hard stare at the kid as they walked, the boy in between him and Adaline held tightly by Kai.

"I don't know about you, but I don't want to be delivering my child in the middle of the forest because some spoiled BRAT like you caused her to go into labour." Kai practically shook the boy not caring who he was or who was witnessing. In fact, he'd be lucky if he ever lived to claim his fortune, because they could all die tonight.

Ready to put as much space between himself and the others, Jacques had not anticipated being pulled back like a petulant child in that moment. He came back to the witch's side much quicker than he'd left though, that much was for sure.

Trying to pull his arm away from the witch as she addressed him, Jacques was getting increasingly stressed with the situation. He'd left a safe place only to be man handled and stopped from getting away. This was not logical, and he didn't need the people around him. Or, Jacques thought he didn't, the truth of the matter was the complete opposite, of course.

"I don't need protecting." Jacques insisted, pulling away just enough to be free for a moment, before his other arm was caught by the older boy in their group. Eyes narrowing, Jacques tried to pull away once more, but the grip of the Gryffindor's was tighter than the girls, and he was not strong enough to get free.

The threat, however, did not sit well. "You can try." Jacques growled back at the boy beside him. "But I have more resources than you could dream of." He finished, giving up on trying to get free and allowing himself to be led by the older boy.

Being called spoiled did not irk Jacques, however, he had everything he wanted, of course he would be deemed spoilt by anyone who didn't understand the privilege of his name. Spoilt was not something Jacques thought badly of, and thus he kept quiet, his eyes straight forward, glaring at the trees ahead of them, and waiting for an opportunity to get away.

Impulsive was one word that could be used to describe Travis. Especially tonight. As the voice of the Headmaster trembled through the walls of the school, he knew that he could not sit back and wait for the action to be over.

Grabbing his wand, Travis had hurried up from the dungeons and put himself right before the group of attackers. His eyes moving from one to the next of the figures that had entered the school, Travis took a moment to assess the situation. Shouts from the teachers - or perhaps his peers rose up from behind him, but Travis wasn't listening.

"If you want them." Travis spoke clearly, loudly, addressing the man in the middle as he raised his wand. "You'll have to go through me first." The Hufflepuff insisted, flicking his wand towards a member to the right. A knockback jinx, simple but effective, of that much he was sure. His next spell went the other way, and Travis couldn't help but feel his confidence grow in that moment.

Eyes turning back towards the man in the middle... Travis cocked an eyebrow in a challenge.

Kenneth and his group made their way into the school stealthily, at least for now. The pounding footsteps of the chase group faded away as he made his way into the Entrance Hall. From here, they could get anywhere in the castle... Ken decided to start with the Slytherin dorms. There was usually a high concentration of Purebloods in Slytherin.

He was just about to turn off to the side when he heard a calm voice trying to intimidate him. He turned to see a teenaged boy standing there, on the older side, but still young. His wasn't one of the faces Ken had memorized, so he wasn't a Pureblood. He did throw some rather effective spells though, and Ken had to admire his tenacity.

"Well you see, I really don't think that'll be much of a problem," said Ken, calmly deflecting the next jinx the boy sent out, sending it ricocheting into a nearby column. His voice, disguised by a spell, came out gravelly and deep. "You have guts, though, I'll give you that. You could join us." He shielded against the answering curse. "Then again, perhaps not."

Though Ken wanted to protect as many Muggleborn and Half-Blood students as possible, no one was allowed to stand in his way. He exploded the stairs under the boy, sending him flying and creating a spectacular boom that resonated throughout the castle. Well, the students might as well come to him.

Walking over to the prone body of the boy, Ken knelt to take his pulse. There was none. He stood up, dusting off his hands. "That should teach them not to stand in our way," he muttered. He heard the voice of the headmaster echo through the school moments before the man himself entered the hall.

"Headmaster. So kind of you to join us." Though it remained unseen behind the scarf concealing his face, Kenneth wore a crazy grin. He raised his wand against the Pureblooded headmaster. "Care to dance?"

Ethan was wandering the corridors as usual. His first button was undone and his tie loosened. He was thinking about goin outside, however he wasn't in his normal self so he took to wandering the halls. He was rather grateful he chose the halls instead of outside. At first.

He happened to be somewhat near the entrance hall when it all went down. Ethan jumped slightly at the noise of other people but most of all, the sound of the Headmaster's voice echoing through the halls. His first thought was to run into the people head on, but Travis had already beat him to it. He watched form the corner, barely revealing himself to the intruders. The man in the middle seemed to be the head of the group. His father had said something about this group in one of Kyle's letters. The Basilisks. They hunted purebloods. That's what he was, however.

Ethan wanted to scream at the man, run from him, and fight him all at once. Travis was dead. His friend. The Hufflepuff was too impulsive for his own good. The headmaster's arrival is what encouraged him that there was still some hope. Ethan fired a hex in the group's general direction and fled. That's when he remembered Layla. He took off down the hallway, unsure of what happened to his hex in hopes it took the a guy off guard. He had aimed it pretty well.

His feet were pounding up the stairs and through the corridors he entered Gryffindor tower, to find him not there. He didn't see anyone in there. Great. He turned and started running again, glad he made himself run after some Quidditch practices. Where would Layla go? Ethan had to think fast and get them both to safety. Yes, she was a muggleborn, but so was Travis, and apparently that didn't matter to the man in the middle.

He called out, his voice a little louder and shakier than normal and in the corridor outside the room before barging in, "Layla?"
