| When Elyah answered the question, she was pretty sure she had achieved something, since the answer might not have been complete, but it was correct. That much she was positive of. But before the Professor could tell her whether she was correct or not, none other than Max spoke up, making Elyah's eyes go wide in horror as the words left his mouth. Where did he think he was? In a playground?!
Elyah wanted to kill him. With her bare two hands. How much of an idiot could he be, really? The Professor's reaction was enough for the young girl to understand he was really mad at Max, and that now she had to try even harder to make a good first impression. And all of that because of this terrible boy who was messing with her since day one. He was exactly like his pet. Annoying!
"Get on with it, then!"
The Professor had instructed them to brew this potion, and it was all Max's fault he was now in such a foul mood. What was she supposed to do now? It was her first time attempting to brew a potion and she had to try twice as harder now. Elyah made a mental note to break Max's bones later, before she got ready to attempt to brew this potion.
She had to try.
No, she had to succeed.
Grabbing her ingredients, she took a look at the instructions and started brewing the potions. Throwing inside the Ginger Root, she started mixing it patently, waiting for it to turn lime green, as it was said. Soon, it turned lime green, making the girl smile in relief. First step was done. Now the second. The Armadillo Bile followed and Elyah mixed it again, waiting for the color change once more.
Blue was the next color, and Elyah admire it for a tad bit. It was a nice blue, and she imagined herself having a dress that color. It looked so royal. But before it was too late, and Elyah destroyed the potion, she added the Ground Scarab Beetles and started mixing again, following the instructions. So much mixing, it was getting boring.
The color changed to a deep red, making Elyah stare at it in awe once again. Well, if blue was an amazing color, this was even better. It was close to the Gryffindor colors, but not quite it. Checking her instructions, she was asked to remix Armadillo Bile, and that was exactly what she did.
The instructions were asking for a yellow color, and not a green one, and Elyah was wide eyed, anticipating the color change and hoping it would turn out correct. It did take her some time, but the liquid turned to yellow, earning a sigh of relief from her.
Next, she was obliged to remix Ginger Roots, which made the girl roll her eyes. This potions was all Armadillo Biles and Ginger Roots?
The potion turned to lime green, making the girl scrunch her nose. She certainly didn't like this color. But her instructions were telling her she was about close to done. More Armadillo Bile was added, and the potion soon turned purple, and now she had to leave it to simmer for ten minutes.
These were the most nerve wracking ten minutes of her life.
Once they were past, she followed the last line of instructions and add some more Ginger Roots, watching as the potion slowly turned to dark orange. She was done! And now all she had to do was allow the Professor to see it!
Talk about a good impression.

| "The Charm that the potion counter acts is the Confundus Charm. Do not confuse that with this idiots gibberish."
Max had looked at the professor confused when he had come down so hard on Max's answer. He was so close, so it wasn't exactly gibberish, and yet Professor Balan seemed not at all pleased. Frowning slightly, Max shrugged it off, knowing that next time he would have to make sure he got it right so not to make the profesor mad. Though, Max added next in his head, it didn't seem like the professor was a happy man anyway.
Max wondered why for a moment, before realising everyone else was moving around the room.
He hurried off after Elyah, collecting his ingredients and then heading back to their desk. He didn't have any order in his desk, simply because Max didn't really know what he was doing. Opening his book, Max knocked over a couple of vials, but caught them before they could fall off the table. Checking the professor hadn't seen, the Gryffindor read the first couple of steps.
Elyah was already hard at work next to him, distracting him as she moved because he wanted to see what she was doing at the same time as doing his own. She seemed to have a natural instinct fot this, and Max couldn't help but smile as she worked. Before remembering he was supposed to be working.
He turned back to his own, working through the ingredients with a rush in his hands. Max wanted to keep up with her, get there before her even, so he tried to do just that.
Except for when he picked up the Armadilo Bile, and began to pour it in to the cauldron, taking his eyes off of the potion in time to see Elyah finish. Frowning at how she had done it so quick, Max didn't realise that the concoction before him was now growing deadlier and deadlier.
Until.
"MAX!" The gruff sound of the professor's voice met the Gryffindor's ears, but the sound was not in time as the cauldron spat out it's contents to the roof and then down across the table he shared with the Hufflepuff. All over their books, all over the remaining ingredients, but worst of all, in to Elyah's potion. Ruining it within ten seconds of leaving Max's cauldron.
Looking back at the professor, Max could see he was fuming, and then looking back at Elyah, he gave her an apologetic look, not knowing the full extent of his disaster.
"Detention. You'll clear this all up in your own time." Professor Balan growled from his desk, and Max simply nodded, looking at the mess before him with regret.
"I'm sorry." Max told the Hufflepuff beside him, picking up her book from the mess he'd made. It was ruined, Max thought, but he hadn't meant to. Wiping the congealed potion from her book, Max offered it to her, hoping that that much would make amends for what he'd done. Though, he still hadn't realised that he'd ruined her potion too.
A potion that was just about to bubble over the top of the cauldron and add more mess to the one Max had already made... |
