Potions: Lesson Three - Cure for Boils - Page 2 Empty

Like his other classes, Alberi had absolutely ignored going to Potions as well. The thing different with this class was that he actually needed to go here. Though he could easily memorise what he needed as an instruction (a whole other fact was that he didn't deem it important enough to actually do it), he didn't have the place where he could practise actually making a potion. Sure, if the teacher was sane, he could ask to use the room in his free time. But this teacher would kill him if he even mentioned something such, probably. It would be much easier to simply go to class from time to time to actually deal with the practical part of class. Of course, he could just do potions at home but he doubted his mother would allow him, in case he blew up the house, plus some needed a wand to work. And Alberi didn't want to deal with the Ministry just because he 'wanted to practise his potion mastery.'

Inside he was surprised to see that the teacher wasn't there. Reading the board, he was even more surprised. 'What kind of idiot leaves a class of unqualified students to do a potion, no matter how easy it is...' he thought, though he only allowed himself to roll his eyes. After all, he couldn't show his emotions for this. Actually, he shouldn't really show his emotions for anything. It was a sign of weakness he didn't need.

Before he even looked at the potion he should make, he quickly placed his backpack at a seat near the door, while still being away from others. He didn't want someone to ruin his potion for fun. There certainly were such types of people. Afterward, he glanced towards the board. So they were making Cure for Boils... Honestly, he was glad that they were allowed to pick which version of the potion they wished to make. As much as he would love to boast around, he didn't have time to deal with longer potions. So Alberi settled with the second version, as it would take him much less time to complete, hence giving him more time to study for something more important than this.

He quickly took whatever ingredients he would need before sitting down. Examining both lists, he wondered what would happen if he mixed them up... The first seemed a lot more concrete about what it wanted from them, after all, then the second one, which could mean better results. If he used the same measurements for this one, he could get one of the best potions. Of course, they weren't going to be graded but at least his name could be remembered.

Quickly, he took 6 snake fangs and crushed them, before adding the needed amount of measurements to the potion. Then the Pungous Onions, the dried needles, the Flobberworm mucus.. And so one until the potion was completed. As soon as he finished, he waved his wand of the potion and watched with delight as a pink smoke rose. Sure, it seemed a bit too dark, though he hoped that that was the needed pink and it wasn't a mistake from his behalf. After all, he did take a rather large risk... Quickly did he put it in a vial and wrote his name on it before leaving it at the front of the classroom and then leaving himself, obviously heading to the library.

As Anya walked into the potions classroom, she was puzzled by the lack of a teacher. She wondered why there were students working if there was no teacher there instructing them.

Her question was answered by a note of the board. She felt sorry for the potions teacher, as she figured that it was probably annoying to teach a group of students who didn't seem to care about the subject being taught.

After reading over the directions a few times, Anya gathered the things she needed and she began to create the potion. She always enjoyed using two methods for the same potion because it gave her insight as to how the creators for each book thought. Usually, the more involved method was written by someone who honoured precision and dedication, while the "quicker" version was written by someone who enjoyed being able to do things with less effort.

After she finished both methods, she labeled the vials with her name and she walked out of the classroom.

The lack of professor suited Luke, he sat at the back of the room, concentrated over his potion, with nothing breaking through the silence. Luke was very talented in the potions area, and he made quick work of both potions with little and less efforts. Even when he had finished, and put his potion in to the vials with his name on as instructed, Luke had not left.

He'd cleared his desk - taking more care than any in getting his desk to the overly clean state in which he had started with.

But Luke had not moved to hand his potion in, instead pulling out his notebook and writing in it carefully. His thoughts littered the book, ways of improving potions were surrounded by his findings on many and more people.

As of late, however, one name seemed to flitter across the pages more and more. Chrysanthemum. Details of her comings and goings. Facts about her, observations. Anything he could find had begun to make themselves known in there.

Today, he had noted that she had not attended this lesson. Another fact about her.

His eyes drifted from the paper though, as he saw Lyra stand, and a cruel smile touched the Slytherin's lips. Waiting for his sister to leave the room, Luke tucked away his notebook and picked up his own vials of potion. Moving to the front of the class, Luke swapped his vials for his sister's, slipping the glass tubes in to his pocket, and leaving with a very calm demeanour.

Let Lyra try to talk her way out of this one.

Elleon made his way to the potions class in deep conversation with Jelena. If anyone passed by, they would think the both of them were nuts and if he were an ignorant Hearing person, he'd probably think the same. But Jelena was the only person he could really talk to and he wasn't about to sacrifice that to look good.

They entered the room but at seeing the absence of a professor, Elleon turned to Jelena and raised an eyebrow. She responded with a shrug and continued into the class. Elleon followed her and took a place next to her. He looked to the board and could almost pump his fist in the air with victory. This entire thing was non-verbal. He wouldn't have to worry about missing anything the professor said or about how his voice sounded. He could just make the potion. The elation wasn't affected by the professor's sour tone.

He turned to Jelena with a big grin on his face and knew that she was thinking the exact same thing. She gave him a thumbs up and a quick hug. He turned his eyes back to the board to read the instructions and his grin got bigger when he read the note in a different handwriting at the bottom. One of the other students must have written it.

Together, he and Jelena gathered the ingredients they would need and started on the potion, Jelena making the first one and he making the second. It was relaxing work and Elleon took his time, making sure he got all the details right. When he'd finished his potion and labelled it, Jelena was still working on hers so he joined her and helped in whatever way he could.

Once they were done, they tidied up their respective work stations and left the classroom.

With a sense of dread, Aurelia made her way through the dungeons to the Potions classroom. She'd never been late to Prof. Balan's class, and didn't welcome the opportunity to see how he'd react to her first time. Taking a deep breath, she rounded the corner and saw that the door was still open. Her brow furrowed as she walked in to find those present working silently. With no professor.

Quietly, the second year took a seat off to the side at an empty work station, and spotted the writing on the board. That explained it. As she looked over the instructions, she pulled out her worn copy of the first book. Having bought it prior to first year, many pages were dog-eared, with notes in the margins. The second, Book of Potions, she'd seen in the library a couple of times while studying. Making a quick decision, she decided to give both potions a go. It wasn't written anywhere what, exactly, they were making, so it took a bit of time for her to flip through her text to find something she hadn't made. It seemed rather familiar, so she was quick to locate it.

With that done, she went to the ingredients cupboard to collect the needed supplies. As the first potion would take time to brew, she figured she'd start with that one. They'd worked with snake fangs before, but she was always careful to wear her gloves, just in case there was any venom or they nicked her in any way. With enough crushed fangs for both potions, separated accordingly, her brow furrowed: the second one didn't specify. Chewing on her bottom lip, Aurelia took a leap of faith and made the same amount for both. Either it will work or it won't, she assumed.

With that step done, she started the process for potion #1, setting her stopwatch for 33 minutes, so she'd be able to monitor it after that. Making quick work of prepping the other ingredients, she quickly moved through potion #2, growing ever more frustrated with the vague directions. She wasn't the best at potions, but come on! Having done her best, and trying not to make a mess with the "vigorous stirring", she gathered her sample and set it aside.

Returning to the first potion, it seemed to be coming to a wonderful shade of sea-blue. She checked her watch again, 39 minutes. With a quick note in her book about that, she continued with the instructions until finished. There were still some others working, though many had already left. Cleaning up her station, Aurelia labeled her two vials (Potion #1 and #2), and grabbed her things.

Interesting class, she mused as she headed to the Great Hall.

Joshua enjoyed potions class. it reminded him of science class, only a bit more magical. This class was unlike most others, though. The professor seemed a lot more layed back than others he had come across. When he walked into the room, he was quite surprised to see that the professor had chosen not to show up to class. He looked to the board to find that all the professor had left behind was instructions for the potion they were supposed to make.

Joshua worked quickly and carefully. As long as he followed the instructions, there was no reason the potion should not come out the way it was supposed to. He had lived his entire life following someone else's instructions, so he had gotten rather decent at topics such as this.

As soon as he had finished every method, he attached his name to his work and he exited the room.
