Divination Class 2 Empty
PostSubject: Divination Class 2   Divination Class 2 EmptyWed Oct 11, 2017 4:30 pm

Andrew sighed heavily. It was the morning of his second class and he still wasn't sure what he was going to teach. He shook his head and closed The Dream Oracle with an irritated slam. He leaned forward, his elbows on his desk and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Ok, just keep looking. Nothing too advanced or too easy..." He pursed his lips and pushed the book aside, opening instead Unfogging the Future. He fliped through it for a while before nodding and marking the page. "Here we go, perfect. Palmistry can be pretty tricky when you're first learning, yet once have a basic understanding it get much easier."

He nodded and stood up, holding the book in his left hand and drawing out his wand with his right. As he began reading the chapters on palmistry as a refresher he used his wand to set up his chalkboard on the table, writing:

Professor Maxwell

Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Vablatsky

He finished just in time and was sitting back down as the first student arrived. He glanced up, gave a small smile and then went back to the book after a quick glance at his watch.

Divination Class 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Divination Class 2   Divination Class 2 EmptyWed Oct 11, 2017 4:59 pm

Sasha was today around Divination class time in bit better mood than she was earlier. She just wasn't even sure what made her feel better, maybe that she got herself, new friend. She really wasn't sure. At least she was smiling as she usually did.

She walked into the classroom and smiled towards the professor. "Hello, Professor," she said with a smile even. She took a seat in the back row and glanced towards the board. She read the words from there.

She figured they will need to get that book what was written there. Actually, Sasha had it if she was right. So she took her book out of her bag and placed on her table. Also, she took out some other things you might need for this class.

All now what was left was to wait for others to show up. She had no idea how this lesson will go or what exactly they will do here.

An elective. She had to choose an elective and she accidentally checked off Divination. She was admittedly unsure as to how it was pertinent in wizarding society, but she was too prideful to even withdraw from the class. In Beauxbatons they did not have divination, but instead their elective was choir. There she used to sing soprano with the wood and sea nymphs of the castle. She smiled sadly at the thought; she did miss those creatures greatly.

Still, with whatever positivity she could pull out, she walked all the way up to the seventh floor for Divination. She had to admit the room was quite beautiful as she took it all in. She smiled shyly at the professor before finding a seat for herself in the back. There was no need to sit near the front if she was unsure that the lesson would require and if she had any uneasiness of the lesson.

Divination Class 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Divination Class 2   Divination Class 2 EmptySun Oct 15, 2017 6:58 am

Divination was still not a class Elenore could decide if she liked or not. It was a flaky subject, she'd found, but it could often give good ideas to the forefront of ones mind. Knowing what might come in the future... well, that was something Elenore longed for. To know where she was going to fit in, to know what she would amount to...

But, it was also a tool that could leave you with false hope. Something Elenore didn't really want to contend with.

Deciding to go to the class, if purely to try to obtain points for Hufflepuff, Elenore climbed the stairs to the seventh floor -- something that she most certainly should have factored in when choosing classes -- to the classroom. Finding that there were only two people there before her. "Good morning, professor." The French witch acknowledged the man, before sending a smile Sasha'a way.

Her feet turned towards Tess, though, taking up the seat beside her friend. "Morning." She greeted Tess softly, before pulling out her book and some parchment ready to take notes.

Andrew gave a small nod and smile to each student as they entered and greeted him before returning to his book each time. He glanced at his watch at the end of the chapter and found that he was right on time to start the class. He looked up at the class, it wasn't as big of a turn-out as he would have hoped but it was more than he expected. Divination often got a bad rap after all.

He stood up, closing his book gently and smiled at his student. "Good morning class, as most of you already know I am Professor Maxwell." He made sure to make eye contact with each one of them as he talked. "If you haven't already please get out your copy of Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Vablatsky, then open it to page fifty-two." He paused for a moment to let them all open to the required page, meanwhile turning to the board to pick up his chalk and draw an outline of the human hand.

"Now, as you can see from the chapter title, today we will be talking about the art of palmistry. If you look at your hand you will see a jumble of different lines. What I'm about to show you is how to read those lines, just like reading a book when you where younger this will be difficult at first but get easier with more experience. Can anyone tell me what one of the lines on your hands are called without looking at your book?" He smiled and looked around the room for a raised hand.

When Elenore walked into class and sat beside her, Tess felt a small smile bloom to her face. It was nice having someone sit there and know who she was without the trepidation. 'This year should be a good one' Tess thought as the girl beside her made herself comfortable.

"Good Morning" she murmured hoping the professor would not get annoyed.

It was right after Elenore came in that the lesson started and Tess wasn't sure if she should take out a scroll, but did so out of respect. The professor introduced himself and went straight into the lecture. As she flipped through the pages and landed on fifty-two, she heard his question and immediately lifted her left hand.

"Sir?" she murmured softly. "One major line is the Heart line which can either mean the emotional health of an individual, or for more...practical purposes, the health of the individual's heart.

Andrew waited patiently for an answer, glad when a girl in the back spoke up with an answer. He smiled and nodded towards her. "That would be correct." He made a silent note to himself to make everyone wear nametags, or acquaintance himself with his students more, or both. "Your heart line is one of the major lines that you will see, this meaning it looks deeper and more distinct than most of the others.

"There are actually four main lines on our hands. The heart line, that is believed to indicate emotional stability, romantic perspectives, depression, and cardiac health. It is located right below your fingers, not including the thumb.

"The life line, reflecting physical health, general well-being, and major life changes (for example, cataclysmic events, physical injuries, and resolution). This begins near the thumb and travels in an arc towards the wrist.

"The head line, used to represent a person's learning style, communication approach, intellectualism, and thirst for knowledge. This starts above and is often connected to, the life line.

"Lastly, the fate line, this is also known as the line of destiny, and it indicates the degree to which a person's life is affected by external circumstances beyond their control. It begins at the base of the palm."

Andrew points out each line on his little chart as he talks, making eye contact with each person in the classroom as he does. "In palmistry, it is thought that your dominant hand represents your present/past life hand and your non-dominant shows your future." He smiles at the class.

At the end of his class Andrew waves to his students.
"I want you all to look over the chapter on palmistry and let me know what you learned next time I see you." He sits on his desk to watch them go. The class was a success! The student hopefully learned the bare basic of palmistry, distinguishing between the lines. Next class, he would tell them the basic predictions that could be made from them and how to master the tricky art of palmistry.
