Another Sleepless Night {Opens}

With Christmas finally over and his subsequent trip home, Alexai was finally back at Hogwarts where he could concentrate on his studies and not the threats that his step-mother was sending his elder brother; the woman seemed to be trying to pull the two of them back to Italy but thankfully was having problems doing that as both he and his brother had British citizenship thus they couldn't be extradited back to Italy.

Rolling his shoulders as he climbed the steps of the Astronomy tower, two blankets in hand, Alexei thought about his life so far. Ever since he left Italy with his brother, the teenager had felt more free and happy than before. With no threats on his life from his step-mother, with no need to train and go out killing people Alexei was pretty much the happiest he could ever be.

Of course, the nightmares that he still had didn't actually let him step away from the past and it was the reason why he was up in the Astronomy Tower anyway. The nightmares hadn't stopped and he just couldn't sleep.

Sitting on one of the blankets he wrapped the other one around his shoulders before relaxing and looking up at the starry sky; despite the unforgiving cold in the air, the sky was as clear as the pure-white snow on the ground.

The winter chill would not deter the young teen from heading up the astronomy tower. It ended up being that some of her deeper thoughts about life, and about her emotional state came in one of two locations: the Black Lake or the tower. But as the lake was off the dirt path during this time of the year, she chose to go up. She snuggled deeper into her coat as she began the trek up the tower. The stairs were now something she was used to and she found herself going up to stare at the stairs and take the view from above.

When she reached the top, a sigh was emitted from her only to get stuck in her throat as she saw another person. She was a bit bothered by someone being there, that is until she remembered that the person was there first.

"Apologies" she murmured unsure if the person would even allow her to just lean over and stare up at the stars.

Alexei didn't really expect anyone to join him up on the astronomy tower at this time of night, considering what time it actually was he was genuinely surprised that a female joined him but he showed no outward reaction of it and instead just looked towards the woman that joined him.

He quickly recognized her as the newest transfer, Tess Holmes, a witch in his house but a year below him;
he didn't personally know her so he had no opinion on what kind of person she was but he knew that she was from France so that at least meant she had some manners unlike most people in the school.

"It's alright." He replied fluidly to her sorry as he looked at her over his shoulder, quirking a brow at the witch who was bundled up in warm clothes and clearly also wanting to stay up on the tower. "Can't sleep?"

When the person turned to look at her she was a bit surprised to find out it was a boy. He seemed a bit older than her, and it was clear he had made himself more at home than ever. She saw that he had made himself a makeshift bed of sorts and looked like he too was ready for a long night under the stars. It was only a few minutes where she realized that he was in her same house. She believed she had seen him in potions, and she knew he was a year above her.

She knew not knowing him was mostly her fault. Social Butterfly was not part of her defining personality traits and in turn, fitting into a new school seemed more of a challenge than ever. She had briefly expected him to tell her to scram, but as he began to make small talks, she smiled softly at him trying to be nice.

"No, sleeping seems to not be in the cards tonight" she murmured, "Same for you?"

Alexei looked at Tess with a calculating look in his eyes; he knew of her relation to Mycroft Holmes, it was impossible not to, considering the fact that his brother had informed him that this girl was Mycroft's younger sister and the countless rumours that were going around about her.

"Nightmares," Alexei replied to the question though it probably wasn't the answer the girl was actually expecting. Nightmares from his past still haunted him and even though his Father was all the way in Italy, the man's shadow still loomed over Alexei and the man knew for a fact that he would never be free of the Mafia head.

Rubbing his hands up and down his arms, Alexei turned his face back towards the stars twinkling above them, some of them flickering out while others shone brightly in the dark sky. He didn't even blink as suddenly the entire sky was lit up with hundreds of falling stars. "Mainly though, I came to watch the star shower." He grinned lightly at Tess over his shoulder.

Boys were a foreign thing to her; well alright she was lying to herself. Boys were something she only saw as a second thought. She had a tendency to manipulating them to illicit anger from her brother, from sneaking out pretending she was misbehaving to simply get the attention. She wasn't particularly proud of what she did, but it did amuse her and brought her a sickening joy. But she had promised herself to be good this year, this was a new start and for the most part she had avoided all interactions between herself and the opposite sex.

Still, the fellow classmate in front of her was intimidating to her because she had no real knowledge of him. Not knowing the basic information about a person was a bit nerve-wracking because you never knew what to expect. But her polite questioned opened another can of worms as he mentioned nightmares. That sure took her off guard and she wasn't sure what to say to that. Unfortunately, while witty, she was particularly charming enough to say something cheeky in return so silence loomed over them until he continued.

"Mainly though, I came to watch the star shower."

"Yes" she murmured a bit shy. "The stars always seem to take all the troubles away don't they?" she slowly moved towards one of the balconies and leaned forward. "They're so beautiful here"
