Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptySun Jul 21, 2019 2:22 pm

The school year had started with it's usual fervour, the children hurrying to catch up with the new set of lessons that they were given and trying to get back in to the routine of learning anew. Jake's own schedule had to be amended for dealing with both of his jobs once more, and the children had been a little troublesome in getting to their own school on time each morning, even with the help of his mom.

This was how it always was, though, and by the end of September, everything had calmed back down in to the routine, and Adrienne was becoming less opposed to going to school every day as the teachers distracted her with 'fun' ways of learning rather than sticking to conventional means. Whatever that meant, Jake didn't really understand, his daughter simply wanted to be with him all the time, and no matter how many ways he tried to explain to her, Adrienne didn't quite comprehend.

But they were getting there, and Adrienne seemed to be doing well, if the teacher's comments when he picked them up were anything to go by, or the messages delivered via his mom. Ivan was excelling in everything, Adrienne was getting there, there wasn't much more Jake could ask for.

Though everything had gotten in to a routine, though, there was no readying for the news his parents would be heading to America for a short break when it came to October. From what Jake had been told, it was a surprise for Victoria that had been set up by her boss, Jackson. His mom had been over the moon with the invitation, using every opportunity to tell anyone who would listen how great a man he was for thinking of Victoria in such a manner. The fact Victoria hadn't been home for a long stay in quite some time, and when she did, she was always busy with her phone, had taken its toll on their mom, leaving her to worry about how Victoria was coping in Milwaukee alone.

This trip would probably relax her a little, though, getting to see Victoria in her new home and spend time with her. Jake hadn't had the heart to point out to his mom that he really did need her here, to help with the children, and thus had tried to make as many adjustments to his own work schedule to compensate. It would be fine, Jake had assured the witch as he dropped her off at the airport two evenings ago, it was only a handful of days, he would manage.

Famous last words.

The first day had been fine, albeit something of a battle to get both children ready, feed them breakfast, then make their lunches, before ushering them out to school on time, with all of their school things packed. Jake had forgotten how stressful doing this solo had been, with his mom being so mercifully hands on with them both. But, he had managed, which had been the main thing he was worried about before he apparated up to Scotland to teach the other children in his life.

The second day had been the problem.

By the time the final class was done, and Jake had headed back to fetch the children from their after school club, Ivan had been complaining of not feeling very well. Jake had just told him he was probably hungry, and maybe a little bit tired, and that he would be okay once they got home. After feeding and helping both the children with their homework, Ivan had opted to go for a bath -- leaving Jake to move between the bathroom and the living room to keep an eye on Adrienne at the same time. But after heading up to check Ivan was okay to find the boy covered in a red rash, Jake had not seen the rash before, and had done his best not to look too worried as he asked his son what he'd done.

Ivan hadn't done anything, he'd insisted.

Jake had reassured him he was going to be okay once more, pulling out his phone and looking up the symptoms displayed in his son. A few clicks and he'd found something that looked to match the description. Chicken pox. The children hadn't had chicken pox yet, but the care seemed to be easy enough. After helping Ivan from the bath, putting him to bed because the boy felt tired, and getting him a cool drink, Jake had left it at that. Checking in on Ivan every couple of hours, it seemed like everything was okay.

Adrienne hadn't been in the same boat at that time.

The next day had dawned anew, though, and with it came the clear signs Adrienne had managed to catch the chicken pox from her brother. Unlike Ivan who seemed to be dealing with the whole sickness quite well -- only having woken up once in the night to come and get Jake, crying gently that he was in pain because everything itched fiercely -- Adrienne did not know how to cope. The young witch was adamant she was going to itch, despite Jake telling her again and again that she shouldn't do so because it would make it worse. Her fever ran higher than Ivan's and no matter how hard Jake tried to get her to drink, Adrienne wouldn't, simply falling in to fits of tears because she was so uncomfortable.

Through the day, Jake had done his best, but there were limits to everyone's capabilities, and after yet another tearful, pained tantrum from Adrienne who just wanted to itch all over, Jake had found himself at a loss. His mom couldn't be asked to come home, though, that would be unfair, and Jake... Jake didn't really know what else to do. A call to the doctors earlier in the day had just provided him with the same advice he'd found online, and that he not bring the children to the practice unless he believed the children were in a seriously ill condition.

Ivan had been worn down by it all, too, growing more teary the more his sister cried. No movie could distract them, and the urge for them both to itch was growing to a point Jake was struggling to keep on top of it.

Leaving the room to go get some ice lollies in the hopes of getting some fluids in to the children's system, Jake pulled out his phone, opening the phone book, and looking at the first name in the list with a small sigh.

Could he?

The man didn't think for another second, hitting the call button before he could talk himself out of it. He needed help, there was no two ways about it. By the third ring, Azalea had answered.

"Hey Azalea," Jake spoke carefully, knowing he was asking too much. "I know that you're probably busy right now, and... the children are sick. Chicken pox. My mom is out of town, and... I... well, I'm struggling to deal with the situation, and I just wondered if you could please come over and help? I'll owe you big time, I know, I just... are you sure? See you soon - and Azalea, thank you!"

Hanging up the phone, Jake opened the freezer, getting a couple of ice lollies and heading back to the living room. Ivan took up his ice lolly with a lot less grievance, and Adrienne, well, she was just not looking to comply with him in the slightest, even if they were her favourite Fruit Pastille ice lollies.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptySun Jul 21, 2019 6:04 pm

After her first real class of the semester, Azalea had been told by the Head of Slytherin House to "sort the rest of them too" in true to form vague Annika fashion. Whether this meant the American brunette would have to take all the classes for the year, month or week, who knew. But surely the potion mistress would teach again after having done so only one real month into the semester? She was in charge of getting the kids through their board exams after all!

Working under the assumption that the silver haired witch only needed a little break, Azalea had continued her practice of combining all years and going ahead with dueling based potions. After her first class, the second and third had not provided the students with a seating ensemble either, instead pairing them up to test spell effectiveness on each other. Today's class was a particularly interesting one because potions were being tested out with multiple foes attacking.

"No no Nikolai, wand straight, the potion doesn't allow you to forgo the actual wand movements," she instructed, moving over to the gangling Slytherin who was trying to cast a shield against Mimosa and Apollonia's combined tickling charms. Despite having consumed a potent Estimulo Potion, he was unable to keep his shield solid, proving his concentration was elsewhere.

"Here, like this," the teaching assistant demonstrated, stepping behind the boy and gripping his arm gently from behind, training his wand correctly so that it fed the shied. "Eyes front, incantation on your lips, verbal and non verbal are both okay," she encouraged, moving closer to him to guide his hand and correct his posture. "Remember, you have to let the potion detect that you're doing a spell, and then it will take effect,' she explained as the shield rapidly grew more sturdy. A minute later Azalea stepped away when the Protego was hard as granite and deflecting the two witch's spells effortlessly, sending them bouncing around the room.

The witch moved on to Charles who seem to be having way too much fun attacking Ji Hyun while Jia En simply observed from the sidelines.

The witch usually made it a point to not check her phone in class, but as she moved to her desk to retrieve Her notebook from her bag, the lit glow of the screen caught ehr attention. The witch decided to ignore the text, until she realized it wasn't one. It was an incoming call, at this time.

Curious more than worried (after having swept the room with a quick glance to make sure Mimosa was alright), she picked p the tiny silver device only to see Jake's name flashing. Without hesitation, she hit call receive, swiping the device to life. The conversation that followed was short but by the end of it, the brunette was definitely more worried than she had been before. Every bit of logic the witch possessed tried to tell her that chicken pox was not a big deal but all she heard was that the children were in trouble.

Jake's children, in trouble.

"Alright guys, we- we can end class earlier today. Just... stop what you're doing, pack up and head back to your common rooms, no loitering around yeah? I'll send someone to clean up this room."

With that, the former Nightshade grabbed her bag and was out the door, her phone still cradled in one hand.

She didn't head back to her room though, no she had promised Jake she would be there as soon as she could and Azalea intended to make good on her word. Her high heels clicked on the stone floor as she speed walked to the library where Grayson was usually found outside class hours. Asking him to please apperate her to Surrey (and having helpfully looked up the nearby area on Google Earth), the Transfiguration professor agreed, leaving the newly appointed library assistant in charge as he walked with her to the school gates.

Azalea barely had time to explain before they were crossing the gates and the gentleman was offering her his arm. She clung to it readily as the feeling of being sucked into a vacuum cleaner overcame her but managed to stay upright and stick the landing through sheer willpower alone. Thanking him and letting him return to his post, the witch walked down the street somewhat unsteadily (the after affects of ehr journey lingering slightly) ntil she was at the Newbury estate.

Pulling herself together, the brunette reached up to ring the doorbell, hoping she had gotten here in time.

Because it there was one thing the witch would not allow, it was more children getting hrut on her watch.

"How are the kids," she burst out as Jake opened the door, her face as worry lined and anxious as his probably was at the idea of Ivan and Adrienne in any sort of pain.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptySun Jul 21, 2019 6:29 pm

Five minutes later, and half an ice lolly melted in to his hand, Adrienne finally gave in to trying to eat the ice lolly. The first bite had been too cold, the child only grumbling more at him for making her eat the ice lolly, the second had been refreshing, and the third had made Adrienne take the lolly from him and feed herself. The lolly had only melted further, making a mess on Adrienne's pyjama top, but at least... she'd eaten/drunk/consumed something. It wasn't enough, though, and the temperature she was giving was not good.

Ivan had since started to complain he was really itchy, and wanted it to stop in a flurry of tears, and Jake could only be thankful that Azalea would be coming to give him a hand. Giving Ivan the pot of cooling gel, and showing him how to apply to the parts that were itchy once more, Jake retrieved the wet wipes and moved back to Adrienne, trying to clean up the mess the ice lolly had made the best he could before Azalea got here and judged every ounce of his parenting skills in two seconds. Not that the wet wipes did much for the pyjamas, but at least Adrienne's face and hands were clean, only her tongue showing off the colourful concoction of the ice lolly.

The door bell went soon after, and Jake had excused himself from the children, heading quickly to the door.

"How are the kids,"

The face looking back at him was pretty much as worried as his own, and though he knew he'd explained exactly what was wrong on the phone, Jake knew Azalea well enough to know that the children's safety would be a worry. Stepping out of the way of the door and motioning for her to come in, Jake replied. "They're both covered in the chicken pox, I've checked it with the glass trick to make sure it is chicken pox. They're irritable, as to be expected, they want to scratch constantly, but I think we're keeping that to a minimum. I can't get Adrienne to drink or eat anything of substance. They're both running a fever, and... I'm trying my best, but I don't know what else I'm supposed to do, and..."

Motioning that the children were in the living room, both sat on the sofa before the TV, Jake would wait to see what Azalea said. She had a better understanding of these things, she had a bit of medical background, unlike him. "The doctors have just told me to keep them hydrated and not let them scratch, but they keep getting upset." He finalised. The last part was painfully obvious to anyone that this was the part that was bothering Jake the most. Hearing your children crying and not being able to do very much to take the pain away was one of the worst experiences in the world.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptyWed Jul 24, 2019 12:57 pm

The witch's heels were kicked silently of upon entering the house, her focus completely on Jake and his explanation of the children's condition. Everything he described spoke of standard chicken pox symptoms but Azalea would not be appeased until she saw for herself. Sure enough there they were, sat in front of the television with angry red marks visible on every bit of skin not covering their clothes. The brunette couldn't even begin to imagine how much the clothes would be hurting at this point.

"Hi you guys," she greeted them as cheerily as she could amidst the worry she was internally going through. "Guess who dropped by to hangout with her favorite people of all time?" Her voice made Ivan look up, and a sorrier face she had yet to see on the boy. His eyes were rimmed with unshed tears and his fingers twitched, clearly wanting to itch at the marks slowly turning into boils.

"Zay-Lea," Adrienne managed, trying to scramble off the couch and tripping over in the process. The girl was probably running a fever so high it was displacing her sense of depth perception. "We have chicken socks." As if to demonstrate her point further, the little girl pointed tot eh red marks all over her arm.

"Chicken Pox," Ivan corrected automatically before wincing. There was a boil right between the edge of his two lips and Azalea could only imagine how much it would hurt to speak in that situation.

"Well, let's see if we can fix that," the American witch witch managed, moving forwards to gather Adrienne in ehr arms. "Have we had a bath yet?"

"Daddy gave us two," Adrienne offered, snuggling into Azalea's blouse for comfort. "they were hot and cold." The brunette motioned for Jake to retrieve Ivan in a similar fashion before she spoke again.

"Well, we're going to have a third one, and its not going to be hot or cold." Turning to Jake she added "Is there a tub big enough for both of them, and calamine lotion? We need to create a calamine bath, very little water, mostly lotion and put the kids in bubble head charms. that will help with the itchy sensation for a while but it can't go on their face."

"Noooo, no more baths," Adrienne groused tiredly while Ivan simply followed along, too exhausted and in pain to argue.

"This one will be great, I promised sweetie, you can go diving and discover all the buried treasure under the water." This seem to evoke some kind of curiosity in Adrienne, leading to random musings of what kind of treasure would be in her bath. once they had approached the bathroom, Azalea and Jake divided up the work, him moving forwards to get the bath ready while Azalea helped the children gently from their pajamas. the marks on their body were the same, some rashes, others matured into boils. It was no wonder they were so uncomfortable.

"Are we ready to go deep sea exploring?" Azalea asked when the children were ready. Hopefully Jake had had the insight to deepen the tub and create the theme. The bubble head charms would only add to the children's fun as the calamine soothed their bodies.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptyWed Jul 24, 2019 7:12 pm

As Jake had... expected? He wasn't sure that was the right word, but he didn't know what else to call it in that moment... Azalea had taken up the notion of helping the children without a second thought, leaving him to follow her back in to the lounge as she spoke to the children in an upbeat and positive manner that he hadn't been able to muster for a couple of hours now.

The children looked to brighten up -- even if only marginally -- upon seeing Azalea, Adrienne trying to get to the witch and losing her balance -- thankfully only on to the sofa -- before Azalea reached her instead. The questions came, directed to the children, and Jake was quite thankful he'd done the right thing so far.

Another bath, though, was not what Jake had expected to come of all of that. Neither did Adrienne if the whining was anything to go by. Azalea's explanation made sense, though, and silently, Jake berated himself for not thinking to use calamine lotion to soothe it. Though, in truth, he doubted he would have thought of it anyway, he had panicked more than a little bit when both children had come down with the sickness.

"I can make the tub big enough." Jake replied as he moved to collect Ivan from the sofa, being very careful not to irritate the boy's skin as he lifted him up and followed Azalea's route upstairs towards the bathroom.

After setting Ivan down on the floor, Jake turned his attention to the bath. Drawing his wand, he enlarged the bath so that it all but filled the room, creating something akin to a swimming pool in that moment. Then, moving to the cabinets, Jake looked through the various medicines, ointments and other bottles kept out of the children's reach before he found the calamine lotion. Bringing the bottle back to the bath -- reading the instructions as he went -- Jake filled the bath up with the good mix of the lotion and water, as per Azalea's suggestion. Ensuring it wasn't too warm, nor too cold for the children, his attention returned back to them as Azalea finished helping Adrienne out of her pyjama top which had proved a little more than troublesome based on the wobbling bottom lip of Adrienne's.

"Ready to find treasure?" Jake quickly asked, taking the children's minds off of their pain. Two nods came in return, and Jake motioned them to him. "Come on then, special treasure hunt bubble heads for my two explorers!" He insisted, waiting for Adrienne to reach him before he put the charm atop her head. Her eyes grew wide as she took in the cool new addition to her wardrobe before Azalea aided her in to the water. Completing the same movements again, Jake helped Ivan in to the water, and then knelt down at the side of the tub.

His wand touched the water only slightly before a small array of lights shined from beneath the surface, and then the man looked across to Azalea.

"Remind me... how do we find buried treasure, Azalea?" Jake asked, Adrienne looking between both of the adults excitedly.

"You have to look for it, daddy!" Ivan insisted.

"Well, what are you waiting for then?" Jake asked, the smile on his lips more than encouraging both the children to look under the water. Below, they would find all kinds of treats to play with, and with the distraction of exciting explorations, neither one of them would notice that their bath would get deeper, submerge them in the lotion which would, hopefully, aid them in feeling better in the long run.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty

Azalea really shouldn't have worried. She and Jake had always made a good team whether they had intended to work together or not. By the time she had the children ready to dive into the tub, Jake had made some significant changes to it, morphing it into the kind of water feature any child would be excited about. The bubble head charm also worked wonders to distract them as they were slowly lowered into the bath where treasure hunting began almost immediately.

Azalea took her place by the side of the tub, watching the children splash happily, their irritation all but forgotten from the constant coat of calamine covering their bodies. Every now and then, one of them would dunk down and retrieve something. A toy ship, a toy train, even a toy Eiffel Tower. Then they would make up stories about how these things had ended up at the bottom of the sea. Ivan invented the most challenging tales involving police chases and secret plans while Adrienne merely wanted to know if there had been explosions and if she could drawn the treasures again.

For two hours, the kids played in the bath, Jake and Azalea hovering nearby. Then, when the water finally grew tepid, the witch called the exploration to an end. "Alright brave explorers, you did great today. And do you know what great explorers get?"

"Treasure???" Adrienne squealed, her unhappiness of earlier completely vanished.

"Even better, they get pizza!" This made both children look up at Jake with big eyes, made even bigger through the bubbles around their heads.

"Can we Daddy, please, please? Azalea says we can!" They had clearly worked up an appetite after all the play time, and surely the Auror would not refuse his children food they actually wanted at this time. Taking a risk, Azalea started the first protest cry.

"What do we want?"

"Pizza!" the children echoed in unison.

"When do we want it?"

"Now!" they sang until Jake relented, leaving Azalea to bundle the children up in towels and he had charmed extra soft earlier. During the bath it had been decided that they less clothes they had on, the more comfortable they'd be.

Ten minutes later, the witch was leading her small platoon clad in fuzzy towels own tot he dining room here the temperature had been cooled. The witch was glad to notice that, the cooler they stayed, the less irritable they'd be. "Alright everyone, on the chairs and we wait for Daddy with the pizza," she declared, taking ehr own seat carefully. So far so good. Now if they could get Ivan and Adrienne to eat something, they could attempt to put the siblings to bed.

Famous Last Words (Azalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Famous Last Words (Azalea)   Famous Last Words (Azalea) EmptyWed Jul 24, 2019 8:34 pm

The longer the children played in the water, the less they seemed to remember about the chicken pox that littered their skin. The calamine lotion had done wonders, by the looks of it, and it seemed almost cruel to pull the children from the water almost two hours later. But, the temperature had dropped, and both the children's skin had wrinkled up really well from the exposure to all the water and lotion they had been playing in.

But, that had not been the only win in that moment. The two hours of playing had seemingly built up an appetite in both the children, and Azalea's suggestion of pizza had been well received. Jake had only playfully considered the option before promising to go and get them all pizza.

After helping Azalea lift the children from the bath and ensuring they were both comfortable in their towels, Jake had left the trio to head out to get the pizza as he promised. The silent question of whether Azalea would be okay with both of them had been batted away by the witch and Jake had conceded without another word, hurrying off out the door to the local pizzeria.

Twenty minutes later, Jake returned with four boxes of pizza. The children had long since not been happy with sharing one big box. Adrienne had to have the personal pizza, which she could just about manage all to herself, and always complained she'd eaten too much by the time she'd finished the margarita pizza. Ivan liked his own small, pepperoni pizza which he almost always left one slice of, denoting he would have it for breakfast the next morning. Jake's own consisted of every kind of meat available at the pizzeria, with more than enough BBQ sauce across the top to keep him happy for some time. Large, of course.

It had been as he stood at the counter ordering that the man had realised he hadn't asked Azalea what kind of pizza she might like. Looking up at the board, and racking his brains from over a decade ago to try to decide what Azalea might like, he'd opted for the medium chicken pizza with peppers and sweetcorn atop it. Hopefully that would be alright? If not, she could share his, and if that didn't work... Jake would have to think of something else entirely.

Entering the dining room, Jake grinned at the three of them sat waiting. "We are hungry, aren't we?" Jake asked, placing each order before the person before taking up his own seat at the table. The children had barely waited a second before hurriedly opening their boxes and leaning over them to consume the food. Jake smiled fondly as he opened his own, before looking across to Azalea. "I hope that's okay, but you can share mine if you don't like it..." He offered, giving her a small, sheepish smile of apology for not having the foresight to ask her before he'd left.

"Daddddddy," Adrienne spoke from the end of the table, her mouth half filled with food as she munched happily on her pizza.

"Don't talk with your mouthful," Jake reminded her gently. Adrienne complied by chomping harder on the pizza, swallowing and then showing him her mouth was empty before continuing.

"Can I have some juice please? Thirsty!" With that, Adrienne's attention returned to her pizza, leaving Jake to put his own slice down on the box once more.

After getting everyone's order for a drink, Jake had briefly left the table to get the four drinks for them, and then settled back in to his pizza. Conversation had been somewhat muted with the introduction of food, and both the children got more than half way through their pizzas before they gave in. Tiredness showed on each of their faces, but both of them had finished the drinks Jake had given them, and in Adrienne's case, half of the second one.

Finishing up the slice he'd been eating -- he could finish the rest later, Jake passed around the wet wipes for the children to wipe their hands with.

"Who's ready for bed then?" Jake asked softly, looking between the children.

"Not yet, Azalea's still here!" Adrienne insisted, clearly still thinking she had the energy to play despite the fact her body was clearly exhausted. Looking across the table to Azalea, Jake raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe Azalea's waiting to read you both a bed time story?" Jake offered.

They didn't have to wait long for Jake's return, his entrance into the house proceeded by the smell of pizza making both the children's face light up. From there on it had simply been a flurry of food and drink. So much so that Azalea had hardly heard Jake's sheepish apology. "Oh don't worry, I'm not fussy with food," she assured him, taking a slice of chicken pizza and transferring it to her plate before moving to help Adrienne cut up hers in neat sections.

To their combined relief, Ivan and Adrienne were both eating and drinking, something that was imperative in chicken pox as the condition sapped the patient's energy completely. Halfway through the meal, signs of tiredness were evident but when Jake suggested bedtime, Adrienne began protesting on principle alone.

"Don't worry sweetheart, I'm going to have a sleepover with you two, so I'll still be here in the morning," she reassured the little girl who was much more compliant about bedtime after this information. When dinner was completed and the children somewhat clean, Azalea and Jake picked up a child each and carried them to their mutual bedroom, still rolled up in their soft towels. Over the next few hours, the irritation would return but so far, the distractions were working.

"Now let's see  about that story," she proposed once the children were in bed, forgoing being tucked in for once because they needed to remain cool throughout the night. After a quick argument over which story they wanted read (Ivan opting for the good witch who grew up to invent a way of transfiguring food and Adrienne wanting the story of the great Goblin versus Dragon war), Azalea decided to read both with Jake proving back up noises and actions where appropriate. Finally, as the Goblin finally became friends with the Chinese Fireball and rode him across the sky, the children were asleep.

Kissing each child in turn Azalea tip toed out of the room, leaving Jake to finish his night time ritual with the kids. She didn't make a move to go anywhere far though, waiting for her colleague to emerge from the room.

When the man finally existed the room, she spoke up. "Umm, we need to keep an eye on them every few hours. There's a high chance the fever will return, it's just how chicken pox works. And they'll get uncomfortable again. I'll take first watch if you want to go get some rest." The suggestion was genuine, he was probably exhausted from the day of looking after two sick and irritated kids. Her own day the witch hadn't even thought about, she had been at work, she could afford to take the first shift.

And she hadn't brought her potion along anyway, so it wasn't like she would be getting any sleep tonight.

The dismissal of being fussy with food was one that made Jake frown, for a moment, before turning to his pizza. Azalea had always been fussy with her food, he'd always struggled when they were together... but that was a decade ago. Things changed.

The children had settled reasonably well after that, getting in to bed and listening attentively to Azalea's story about dragons and goblins. Adrienne had held on for as long as she could, but her eyes had drooped slowly and she had fallen asleep before Azalea had finished. Ivan wasn't much further behind, and after kissing each of them goodnight, and tucking them in, the adults had retreated, pulling the door almost closed behind them.

Azalea's suggestion of rest sounded nice, but as she looked to be getting ready to sit by the children's door, Jake paused. He couldn't just leave her to sit out here on her own all evening. "Give me five minutes, I'll be back." Jake had offered, giving the witch a small smile before he moved off downstairs. First to the kitchen, where the man put on the kettle to make them both a cup of tea. They were going to need it if they were taking it in turns to watch over the children. It was also a good excuse to scoff another slice of pizza whilst he was in the kitchen, before grabbing a pack of biscuits, a tray and then making two cups of tea.

Using his wand to levitate the tray, Jake made his way back -- with a quick detour to the sitting room to get the children's beanbags -- before heading back up the stairs. If they were camping out in the hall, they might as well be somewhat comfy, right?

The tray lowered to the floor as Jake placed the two beanbags down beside one another, motioning for Azalea to use one as he took up the other. Reaching down, Jake would retrieve his own cup and sit back, sipping lightly at the too hot liquid. For a brief while, he would be quiet, not really sure what to say to Azalea, even now.

"We always made a good team," he commented, though his eyes didn't move to the witch. "I know it's not a nice situation to find ourselves in, but being able to work together like that was... nice... Having mom around is good, and all, but, she's my mom, you know? ... Thank you, for coming over to help, and I'm sorry if I worried you. Mom and dad have gone to America to visit Victoria, and I didn't really know who else to call."

Jake would stay quiet for a moment, before he spoke again.

"Since when did you start eating pizza?" He would ask, looking across at Azalea with mild curiosity. "You were always in to super healthy eating when we were dating. You would never touch pizza. Salad, always salad, or vegetables. Next to no meat. It always used to amuse me, because I was the professional athlete, but you were the one who watched her diet much more closely. But... now you don't. It's a good thing, by the way. Not a criticism."

When her suggestion of taking shifts to watch the children was countered by his own of giving him five minutes, Azalea nodded. There wasn't much else to do but stay standing by the door and try to guess what he was up to. The kids were sound asleep and no one was scratching yet, the effects of the coalmine lotion still in place. Peeking once more just to make sure, the witch smiled slightly at the two tiny sleeping forms before retreating out into the hall. She could feel a headache coming on as she reached to pull her hair out of their ponytail, transferring the hair tie to her left wrist instead. Next the witch reached to untuck her blouse from her narrow pencil skirt. The day of classes was catching up with her but before she had time to think about that, Jake was back with a tea tray and two beanbags clutched under an arm.

The image of Jake levitating the tray yet trying his hardest to manage both beanbags with one arm was amusing enough to make her want to smile, giving her the distinct impression this was not the first time he had tried to half magic, half muggle his way through a situation. Jake might consider it rude though so she simply stayed composed, only her dark chocolate eyes hinting at her amusement. In keeping with his MO, Jake offered her the beanbag unaltered, which suited her better than it did him, making the man look even more comical atop the tiny beanbag.

"We always made a good team," he began, probably floundering for words because they were now sat down and conversation had to happen. But Azalea didn't grudge him that at least he was trying. Just like he had on ehr birthday. It probably wsn't easy but here they were.

"I don't... remember much of that," she confessed, picking up her own mug and holding it to warm her fingers. She preferred coffee over tea but that was hardly a big deal right now. "I mean, I want to. And sometimes I get these... bursts of feelings. But they aren't anything specific. i remember bursts of happiness, fear, I remember being really sad towards the end but I don't know why...." She trailed off, bringing the cup closer to her but not taking a sip yet.

"Oh Victoria and I chatted a few days ago," she offered as talk tuned to Jake's parents. "She's really, really busy. I could hear her sending emails even in bed which can't be good. But she assured me its just the election season crazies. Her Senator is running for reelection and I think she's a big part of that effort." Of course, Azalea refrained from mentioning her suspicions about why Victoria was working so hard to get Jackson reelected. Partly because if the Newbury witch wanted her brother to know, she would tell him herself and partly because implying Victoria worked hard for Jackson because of her maybe feelings for the man was unfair on the tiny witch. Victoria Newbury would work hard no matter where she worked and who she worked for.

"But she's also really happy there," the brunette concluded, finally bringing the mug to her lips after the sentence. "Every time she speaks about her work and her colleagues, its so clear that she's happy." Hopefully that was all that would matter tot eh young witch's family, even if it meant she missed a few family gatherings here and there. "Besides, someone has to fill in here while she's away, and I promised her I would help out as and when needed. I'm just keeping up my end of the deal." They both knew that was a lie, Azalea would do anything for the two youngest Newburies, that pretty much went without saying. Even if she hadn't made any promises to their Aunt, the potions assistant would still be the first one to show up and help.

"Since when did you start eating pizza?"

A small frown touched her features as Jake explained further, elaborating on eating habits she couldn't recall. Had she really been a health freak? Was it a random chose or something borne out of an image issue? The witch didn't Bremen suffering food related abnormalities as a teenager but that wasn't surprising . She hardly remembered being a teenager period.

"I don't remember that," she admitted, trying no to get frustrated at her own lack of memory. Placing erh up back down on the ground, ehr reached to hug her knees close to her. "I wish I did, do you know why I ate like that? Was I dieting?" If anyone would know, she figured it would be him. They had been dating for a number of years as far as she knew. They must have been pretty serious too if she had a child with him. "Please tell me it wasn't something as cliche as dieting."
