| The older years were the only ones left in the way of his holiday with Circe. James was in better spirits, the thought of getting out of this freezing country for two weeks was a welcome thought. However, this did not mean that James was going to make anything easy for his students.
Whilst his demeanor would obviously not be so tense as normal, James was still his usual, grumpy self.
On the board behind him were two words, Felix Felicis. The topic of today's lesson should hopefully make the older years concentration levels kick in quite quickly, because this was not an easy potion to make, at all.
However, James also knew how lazy his students could be, so he did not hold high hopes for the outcome. Leaning back in his chair, James leant on the arm, head in his hand, waiting for his classroom to fill up with those who could be bothered to attend. |

| Potions. Finley hated Professor Balan, because the man at the front of the class terrified him. However, even if Professor Balan was the most terrifying man in the whole school, it would not stop Finley from attending the class. Anyone who knew anything about the wizarding world knew that a good grounding in Potions could get you in to almost any job, and seeing as Finley had yet to decide what he wanted to do, he had to keep his options open.
So, slipping through the door on his own, Finley froze upon seeing the room empty. Casting a glance at the professor, Finley quickly hurried past him and took a seat right at the back of the room. Eyes down on the desk as he took out his textbook, Finley hoped as hard as possible for someone else to turn up to the lesson so that he wouldn't be alone with the professor.
Literally anyone would be fine with me right now, Finley thought to himself, trying to steady his breathing so his heart would stop racing with anxiety. |

| As time grew closer, for his holiday, with his family. The more he wanted to go and the least he wanted. Since he knew what it would be with his siblings arguing, mainly the twins, which seemed they had nothing better to do, and Madison just being Madison. It also meant that his grandparents would be over, and his parental grandparents, with their old ways, even though they loved all their grandchildren, even his mother they loved.
It was just an interesting family, but he knew he had to get his mind, on Potions, since who doesn't. When you have Professor Balan, who just gave a Potion to make, once everyone got in, he would put it on the board and just have them make it. Which he could understand since perhaps dealing with students could be hard, but how you supposed to get know the students and what they can and cannot do.
Then soon he realized perhaps he should not dwell, and perhaps focus on getting through this class. Then it would be going home for Christmas, to lovely Pembroke, Wales. Cole entered the classroom, drawing his attention to the board, seeing Felix Felicis, which made him smile. Perhaps this could be a challenge, as he then saw the professor with his head in hands.
Well I guess, that was okay to spend your last class, before going on vacation, as he then went to take his belongings, and took a seat, and waited until the ingredients would go on the board, so he could begin brewing. |

| It had just been one last class until it meant she would soon be going on break. Since she was excited to be able to go home and study, as well as spending time with her parents and family. She loved many holidays but nothing as much as Christmas. Soon she began walking to Potions in which she dreaded since she hated Professor Balan, since it seemed he did not like teaching.
Which made her feel like he should not be teaching he hated children, and might as well go teach others who were his age. She had only loved Potions for the subject not the professor. In which she succeeded in most of her classes. Giving Sophie a smile, she loved that when she did well and wanted to well.
Since she had wanted to be successful even though her strength was in other subjects such as Defensive Magic. Which she loved to do that and how she loved doing well period. Then soon entering the classroom seeing they were making Felix Felicis, a potion she knew was hard.
As she soon went over to take a seat and wait till ingredients were put on board. |

| As the bell sounded the class to begin, James sighed at how small (and incompetent) the class was. Why did the forces of the world have to work against him so often? What had he done in life to be dealt such a poor hand? Whatever it was, James simply decided to skip the theoretical part of his lesson.
"This potion is hard." James growled after the bell went silent. "I do not expect for most of you to do well in this, but you will not become a better potioneer if I do not push you hard. Today you will be brewing the Felix Felicis potion, the instructions are in your book. You have two hours to complete the potion, if you finish early, you may leave, but you'll probably have failed if you do so.
"I don't want to hear a word from any of you. Begin." James instructed, his eyes moving from the students back to his desk. It might be Christmas in the school, but James was Scrooge.
- Spoiler:
1. Add Ashwinder egg to cauldron, then add horseradish and heat. 2. Juice a squill bulb, add to the cauldron and stir vigorously. 3. Chop up anemone-like growth on the back of Murtlap, add to mixture and heat. 4. Add a dash of tincture of thyme and stir slowly. 5. Grind up Occamy eggshell and add to mixture. 6. Stir slowly then heat the cauldron. 7. Add a sprinkle of powdered common rue. 8. Stir vigorously then heat the cauldron one last time. 9. Wave wand over potion in a figure of eight and say incantation ‘Felixempra!’

| Mei Xin hadn't been surprised to find the professor in a bad mood; it was the only mood he was capable of having. Still, she greeted him with a sweet smile and nod, the training drilled into her by her parents did not let her to be any less polite.
She had completely expected the detention he gave her. It was a cowardly move on his part and one that showed he did not have the balls to face his weaknesses. Sure, she doubted her words had any effect on him whatsoever but it had to be said. She'd taken her detention and the humiliation that came with it with sealed lips - like any obedient girl should - but that didn't mean she was forever silenced on the matter. She would attend his classes because her studious nature wouldn't allow her to do otherwise but she would not hold him in respect.
She listened as he spoke. The potion was one she was not unfamiliar with. Of course, she hadn't actually made it before but she did read about it and since there were only nine steps, she'd memorised it as well. She could not help the slight raise of an eyebrow as he commanded them not to speak. This professor seriously needed to see a psychologist or psychiatrist of some sort. How could they complete the potion if they weren't allowed to speak? They had to say the incantation after all. Were they expected to do non-verbal magic? And she could not even ask because they weren't allowed to talk!
Deciding she'd cross that hurdle when she came to it, Mei Xin gathered the necessary ingredients and began the potion. She took her time, making sure that she followed the steps properly. She had about ten minutes left on the clock when she came to the last step. She cast a glance in the professor's direction and bit her lip before taking out her wand. Oh well, he couldn't punish her for an incantation for a potion, even if it did break his command not to speak, right? That was just senseless.
"Felixempra!" she said, waving her wand in the required shape. They had no instruction to take a sample out for him so Mei Xin quietly gathered her things, thanked the professor for his time and walked out of the room
