Humphrey hadn't seen the knock-back jinx coming until it slammed into him full force, throwing him backward. He knew exactly what it was because he'd heard the shout, just not seen the direction it was coming from until it was already hitting him. Slamming against the corner of the building he'd walked by moments ago, Humphrey heard two cracks and knew that they were broken ribs, and he saw a bit of blood seeping into his shirt signifying one of the bone shards had pierced his skin. Not good, and before he could even collect himself Naomi was dragging him into the alley, causing the speed of the bleeding to increase as well as the biggest amount of pain he'd felt spiked from his ribs through his stomach and chest area, his breathing becoming labored as he grit his teeth to endure it.
Finally, Humphrey felt a surge of adrenaline as she called him a prat and he stumbled to his feet against the wall of the alley. Once he was upright he shoved her away from him roughly to give himself space. "For once listen to me, Naomi!" he yelled at her, the first time he'd ever really yelled at anyone in all honesty. Stumbling forward off the wall he glared at her as he wobbled on unsteady feet. "I knew exactly what I was risking by doing that, and I knew there was a high likelihood of death. But I had not given up, I did have a plan to either dodge or use debris or bodies to attempt to block and get away from there." he said, explaining the plan that had hit him when there'd been the pause before all hell broke loose. "Most importantly, I did it for that kid who was a hostage. Who you completely disregarded to try and save me. I'd much rather have died trying to save them than see you get killed coming to my rescue when I did not want your help!" he bellowed, slightly quieter than his previous yell but not by much.
Finally beginning to calm down a bit, he cast a charm that transfigured part of his robes into thinner, longer strips of fabric that he wrapped around his busted ribs and tied it to hopefully help slow the bleeding. "I'm going to help Lux so she doesn't get herself killed, either come with or do nothing but don't try and stop me." he warned, his wand in his hand as he slowly, and with a slight limp, left the alley. Naomi had risked a child's life and her own for his, and he didn't care that it was because she cared about him. The kid should have been the priority, and he wasn't sure he'd be able to forgive her for taking away his choice in the matter of doing his part to help rescue.
When he saw the chaos, with Lux floating in the middle before descending and hiding, Humphrey took a few pot shots with stunners and his petrificus totalus. Three hit, stopping a few from chasing after where they'd last seen Lux. They turned towards him but he didn't care, not any more. Instead he let his emotions take over, powering his next spell far beyond what was normal or safe for his not yet mature magical core. "Diffindo!" he yelled clearly, and he moved his wand in a straight line down the center of the crowd of villains before releasing the spell. A long, deep line had been cut into the cobbles, and after already suffering damage he hoped that the ground would slide in a little to the slight fissure he'd made, giving the aurors time to subdue them. He would never know, though, because he then stumbled to his knees as he felt the makeshift wrap on his torso give way, the blood weakening it until it slipped off. Spots appeared in his vision before the toll of that spell took its full effect, sending him into unconsciousness and a potential life-threatening situation if not treated quickly and effectively by a Healer.
