Seeing the farm (Jake)

The house

Cardina had been excited that someone was coming to see her farm. Namely Jake, a professor that Lucy had really looked up to in Hogwarts. She had spent the morning getting milk, fresh eggs and making some butter and currently had a loaf of bread in the oven in preparation. Lucy had arrived early in the morning and done the last bits of cleaning up. Her daughter was a blessing on weekends. When Lucy had told her mother what Jake had done in that damned alley Cardina sent a giant basket of fresh fruits and vegetables. Nothing better then fresh food in her opinion.

Lucy had arrived at around 7:30 in the morning. She was positively buzzing. Nero's tattoo was coming up and Jake was bringing Ivan to her mothers farm today. Lucy got all the creatures in order, her Niffler was being the worst. It kept trying to steal the silverware and kept getting kicked out of the house. Frank was trying to calm the male niffler. Lucy looked at her watch. Waiting for Jake and his son to come. She hadn't harvested the vegetables for the day, and the cow needed to be milked, the ducks and chickens needed to be fed. She planned on getting Ivan to help her with all of that stuff.

Lucy and her mother had been dealing with the Niffler for the third time as she heard a hushed . A rather cute hushed voice . " One second !" She called back , a few crashes heard and as Lucy opened the door she grabbed the troublesome niffler " behave we have company ." She said to it , before looking up at Jake and down at Ivan and knelt quickly . Keeping a firm grip on Niffles . " Hey Ivan ! I'm Lucy ! Come in " she told the boy . The niffler wiggling madly . " Hey P-Jake ."

Cardina smiled as she saw Jake-the-auror and his son . " Hello Jake ." The older woman said . Giving a smile and saw the little boy . " Hello Ivan , I'm Lucy's mum." She smiled .

Once the niffler was once again taken outside and told to stay out , to which the niffler had huffed and tried to get to Jake , Lucy was able to welcome them properly . " Did you two want a drink before going and exploring the farm ?"

Lucy smiled as Jake and Ivan came in, giving a slight nod at the acknowledgement of the vegetables. "Thank Mum,. " She told him, not wanting the attention of the food on her.

Taking a seat and laughing at the question of the Niffler. She had tried many times to get rid of it,  "Didn't willingly get it. We've tried to send it away but despite it's protests it does love us."

She sat, "Just ignore the niffler for now he will run around outside all day when we go out." It was the noisiest, of all animals. She tapped the glass and watched as it left and toddled back to another window.

Hearing they were fine and Ivan had just had breakfast was good. They had lunch prepared but the bread was going to be a while away. "Well that's quite good big boys need lots of energy to help out on a farm."  Smiling again she heard the little boy's thanks. "You are most welcome Ivan." Lucy loved people eating healthy regardless of their diet.

Lucy and her mother both smiled as Ivan asked about the ducks. "Of course we can go see the duckies but that isn't all we have on the farm. I saved some jobs for you and your daddy to help with . The cow needs to be milked, eggs need to be picked up and the duckies and chickens need feeding and there's some vegetables that are ready to be harvested. Think you and your dad can give me a hand with all that?" It wasn't super hard, but Lucy loved showing people where their food came from. It also wasn't going to be super hard on anyone if they did the jobs she had they just took a little time and a little patience and practice.

Upon hearing she wasn't the only one to have gotten a Niffler Lucy laughed. Looking at the one on the window. "See told you I can sell you as shark bait." She warned it . Shaking her head a little.

Lucy crouched just a little to talk to Ivan, she took his hand. He had a cute soft hand . "Alright . If you milk the cow right and are nice and gentle my mum might show you how to make fresh butter later how does that sound." She asked, looking up at Jake. Waiting for her friend before leading the boy out. "You can go into any of the places you just need to ask okay." Lucy explained. Young children and animals needed supervision. She didn't think Ivan would hurt the animals however he was young and accidents did happen, it could be as simple as him spooking an animal and he being injured as a result.

The first place that she took him was the cow. "This girl is named Bertha, her friend is a different type of cow so we don't get milk from her friend only Bertha." Lucy explained, gently sitting him on a stool. "Bertha is very friendly but you have to be gentle okay." Lucy said to the young boy, she had made sure his hands were washed before she showed him to gently pull on the teat. "gently gently like you were tugging on your dad's sleeve. " With a little care and practice it wasn't hard to get it into the bucket. The cow was tame and mellow and as such Lucy just needed to make sure she was between Ivan and her back legs just for safety. "How's that feel ?" little squirts of milk were coming from Berth's teats into the bucket that the little boy was squeezing with tenderness and care.

You make butter?"

"Yep I sure do." Lucy had answered as they walked. "And by the end of the day you will know how to as well."

Lucy didn't know his mother had explained the rules, she didn't want to lecture the boy she simply wanted him safe. She wasn't going to baby Ivan but this was a farm . Safety was important.

Hearing the boy calling Bertha almost correctly Lucy gave a big smile. "Yep , Bertha. You're doing a really good job of milking the cow!" She praised, and it was true. She'd shown men the same age as Jake how to milk a cow and couldn't aim for their life. Ivan was a quick learner. The pail was quickly filling up.

She watched Ivan milk the meek cow for about ten minutes before gently telling him that was enough. She smiled. Just as proud as Jake, though for different reasons. "Awesome job!" She told Ivan before looking at Jake. "Did you want to have a quick go?" Lucy offered him, "If not we can move on to getting the chicken eggs. But we will need to place the milk in a special machine." she explained to both of them. Indicating if Jake wanted a go now was the time
