| Lucy laughed and got ready to go see the chickens but first she wanted to show him how they made the milk . "Come watch." Lucy said to both of them, showing them where the machine was. "It's a splitter. It gets rid of bits of the fat."
She opened the lid and put the fresh milk in. "It goes in big circles to draw the fat out. It goes on for fourty five minutes."
Lucy gave a gentle smile once she explained what she was doing and let Jake and Ivan see before walking them to the chicken coop, letting the cow wander off in the field after giving her some treats. "See that bucket of veggie scraps can you give me that?" She asked Ivan, it wasn't too heavy for him. "You need to feed the chickens before you can get the eggs."
Once they got inside the chicken pen the chickens came running up knowing they were going to get fresh veggie scraps. Both being vegetarians Lucy and her mother had heaps of vegetables for the animals each day. Lucy gave Ivan a smaller tray of the veggie scraps "Give it to them gently, tip most of it on the ground but a few will come try eat out of your hand." she gave some to jake as well on a small tray. Tipping the bigger part where the food normally was for the mot of the chickens. |

| Ivan had watched the demonstration of the splitter, but the boy was quite obviously more interested in going to see the chickens. Jake had to hush him softly a couple of times, pointing to the machine as it worked, but Ivan kept mentioning 'chickies' and Jake relented in the end.
Jake had put Ivan back down once they were outside, away from the cow and the boy hurried on just ahead of them, moving towards the chickens happily. Jake had no idea where Ivan's love of animals had come from, but he had to say that it was nice to see his son so excited, and enjoying the outdoors like he was in that moment.
Ivan had hurried to get the bucket - just about lifting it high enough to not trip over himself and grinning up at Lucy as he came back. "Got the veggies, Lucy!" Ivan announced, putting the bucket down with a soft 'oof' before listening to her instructions.
The five year old's hands were in the bucket in an instant, hurrying over to the chickens and offering them vast handfuls of food. "Ivan." Jake said in a firm tone that made his son stop, but not so harsh that the boy would think he was in deep trouble. "Don't run after the chickens, they don't like it." Jake explained, lifting the bucket and moving to his son, tipping some on the floor as Lucy had explained, before taking a small handful, and showing Ivan how to hold it out to the chickens so that they could eat it.
Ivan copied, and Jake couldn't help but let out a soft laugh as Ivan made his comment. "Ouchy! They're pecking me!" Dropping the food, and looking at his hand, to find no harm had actually been done, Ivan took another handful, holding it out, and repeating the process once more. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~ | |

| Lucy smiled, glad that Ivan was so keen and when Ivan wasn't looking nudged Jake "Secret farm boy or what." She teased, meaning no harm.
Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear Lucy watched as Jake showed Ivan how to get the chickens fed. "Let them come to you Ivan." She smiled, echoing his fathers words.
She laughed a little as Ivan got pecked. "They peck but they won't hurt I promise." Lucy told him, feeding one of her own chickens. Taking the bucket and got the usually shying away ones a little far from Ivan. It wasn't his fault or anything against him but some of the chickens were temperamental.
Lucy smiled and watched Jake and Ivan feed the veggies for a while before letting the boy do what he wanted. "I need little nimble hands to get the eggs gently for me." She told him, opening the chicken coop where the eggs were laid. There were a heap. "We only close it so foxes don't get in. The chickens are free otherwise." She explained to Ivan. "All the chickens are out so we can get the eggs. Careful, some of the chickens like to hide where they lay." |
