Background

Unknown to all but his father, mother, and himself, Alexander was born to Vincent Marcotte and lover Selene Ryker along with his twin brother, Nathan. The woman had been impregnated by Vincent but had already decided to leave him for fear of the monster he'd started to become. Selene had originally been with him out of pressure from her mother about upholding family names and values, but she'd fallen for him in the process only for him to start his decent into insanity.

Upon producing an heir for the man-turned-monster, Selene left Vincent for the half-blood William, his own relative of all people. It infuriated him, especially because she had carried his twins and Vincent was only left with one of the boys.

This rage was part of what allowed him to be defeated in July,  a month before his sons would turn a year old. Vincent's baby Alex was left to grow up with his sister's bastard daughter in the fairly capable hands of Elisabeth Ness.

Alexander was raised in the home of Elisabeth Ness, not even a real relative in his opinion and so tightly wound around the finger of the Alimina girl who he was forced to refer to as his 'sister' that it was utterly impossible to deal with. While his father was out of his life, Alex was left to read documents left behind by his father in his last fleeting moments of capable thought before he disappeared to try and survive.

He'd left him magical photos of a brother he'd never met, a life he'd never known, and the written promise that some day he'd know his family. The name "Nathan" was written on the back of one of the photos of a baby who could have been him, and he was hungry to know this person. He felt a kinship that he'd never experienced with Alimina, and he desperately wanted to leave the Ness household and find the boy for himself.

Of course, he tried once, and of course, it was when he was ten years old, studying at Hogwarts where he was sorted into Slytherin, and his father showed up with his face on the back of a bumbling fool's head. He was furious with him, explaining how important it was for him to continue studying privately in the home, perfecting his skills in the darkest arts and adding to her vast knowledge of everything. Alex explained how he was never going to fulfill his father's dreams, and there he left him.

To this day, Alexander is still searching for his mother and his twin brother, hoping they could give him a life he never had.

Family Background The Marcottes originally started in Ireland in the 18th century, as bounty hunters for muggles and muggle-borns, first with knives and swords, but when they discovered magic, they decided to use their powers to hunt those they considered barbarians. They believe magic is only for those who discovered it in the old times just like they did, and that pure-bloods should work hard to keep it that way. According to the Marcottes, they are taking the power that pure-bloods worked hard for.

Marriages in the family are usually based on three factors, how rich the other pure-blood family is, how respected they are, and if they are old and traditional like the Marcottes. Marriages must be arranged, women are married without a choice at 15, and a man can choose a bride at 18. The Marcottes are not against marrying half-breeds, but only if the offspring of the half-breed is kept hidden and away from the head of the family.

Marriages must produce a male heir, to take the position of head after its predecessor, a bit more money so the family can stay rich and powerful, and a female heir, if this is not supplied, the marriage will not last. The Marcottes have a decent amount of power in the wizarding world because of this method.
