| December had crept up on Caspar much quicker than he had expected. The Christmas break would give him time to go off and do some more research, as he liked to do in his free time, on some of the newer specimens of plants that had been discovered in the previous couple of months. To say he was excited for the Christmas break was, therefore, an understatement.
But, before he could run off on that epic adventure, Caspar had to teach his students about Fanged Geraniums, as he'd promised in the previous class.
Hoping that they'd all taken on board his request for them to read up on the plant they would be studying today, Caspar sat with his Herbology magazine at his desk with a smile on his lips. A pen in hand, Caspar was drawing all over the magazine with ideas, proposals, and simple observations he'd made on the various plants before him. After all, there was no point in trying to keep all of that information in your head, was there? |

| Geraniums Sophie had heard of. Every week, she and Grampa would ride down Hurricane Vale to that particular spot full of geranium bushes. They'd pluck a few for the vase Gramma always kept in the kitchen. Apparently, Grampa had wooed her with that very vase full of geraniums and had kept it up every week. Now that she was in school, Grampa would have to go alone to get the flowers. Geraniums she knew, Bbit Fanged geraniums was something she'd never heard of before now. Of course, the name was a dead giveaway and she'd guessed that it was a geranium with fangs, but she'd done the research Professor Loverin asked them to do. It was always good to come to class prepared.
She walked into the greenhouse, a smile on her face as she saw Professor Loverin with his magazine. "Hey Professor," she greeted with a nod before settling down and waiting for class to start, wondering if they would be allowed to handle the plants today. |

| Winter was certainly on its way, as evident by the crisp wind that seemed to bite at his cheeks as he made his way to the Greenhouse for his Herbology lesson. Geraniums, Jerome honestly didn't have a clue what they were until he looked it up in the book, as a requirement for this class. never mind fanged geraniums. Flowers with teeth... The only thing cooler than that would be flowers that spit fire, or something along those lines. Maybe that existed, somewhere, it was a large world after all.
He found the Greenhouse and made his way in, giving the professor, who was sitting at his desk, a nod before deciding to take the seat next to the other Gryffindor in the room. He'd seen her around the common room, but had never actually spoken to her before. Joining in on conversations, Jerome could do flawlessly, but actually starting them, well, not so much. So instead, he just focused on getting ready for the lesson.

| As a flower just on its own, geraniums were nothing special really. Perhaps magical ones had far more use than the ones he was used to seeing. Especially since these ones that they were studying had fangs. In all honesty, Charles has skimmed the reading, he'd been much too enthralled with exploring the castle to really care to do his readings for his subjects. He'd do as he would at his muggle school, wing it. Yes, Charles was that ever so frustrating kids that managed good grades while doing minimal work.
He made his way to the Greenhouse, noting the two Gryffindors that had already arrived and smiling politely at Professor Loverin "Good morning Professor," he said, as he slid into a seat towards the front of the classroom, beginning to neatly arrange his things so he could take notes. He could be a tad pedantic at times, wanting everything to be neat and in its place before starting any task. |

| Stephanie came to Herbology equipped with some knowledge of Fanged Geraniums. Herbology together with Care of Magical Creatures were some of the subjects she didn't like very much, mostly because they involved sticking her fingers in soil and being out doors. But she wasn't about to let her dislike get in the way of her studies and so she'd done the necessary reading.
She stepped into the greenhouse - another reason why she didn't like Herbology because the place was too warm for her liking - and saw that there were already a handful of students present, one of them a first year in her house. "Hello, Professor," she greeted with a sweet smile before settling near her fellow Slytherin and hoping that they wouldn't be doing repotting of any kind. If they were, she would use her gift of words and manipulation so that the first year would end up getting his hands dirty instead of her. She could easily give instructions and have him carry them out. It was the best partnership of all and there was no way Stephanie would be destroying her fingernails anytime soon. |

| As his classroom steadily filled up with students, Caspar glanced up from his magazine only to give the students a small smile, before hurriedly continuing on with his final planning points for his trip. He was sure the kids would understand that this was important, should he ever explain himself, but Caspar had no intention of doing so, really.
However, as the hour struck, Caspar looked up and put the magazine to the side. "Okay, we better get started. Welcome everyone, I hope you're all warm enough, what with winter here, I know it can get a little chilly." He explained, though the greenhouse was more than warm, it was a half apology.
"So, as those of you who tried to do the homework will know, we will be looking at the Fanged Geranium today. Who can tell me a little bit about them so that we can crack on to the practical without wasting too much time?" Caspar asked, looking around the many faces for answers to be thrown his way. |

| Charles glanced up as a fellow Slytherin sat next to him. He recognised her as one of the older ones, at least by a few years. A rather pretty girl too. Though Charles didn't say anything to her, instead turned his attention up to Professor Loverin as he began talking about the lesson, apologising for the cold (despite the warmth of the greenhouse, to which Charles frowned slightly in response).
"Essentially, a flower with teeth," Charles spoke up, answering the Professor's question "If I remember correctly, don't you use it's teeth in cooking? Potions, I know they're used in that..." he wasn't sure what sort of potions, however. He couldn't remember what properties they'd have, just how they were used. Hopefully it was enough of an explanation to move on to the practical component, he was very much looking forward to that. |

| When the Slytherin spoke up with an answer, Caspar's eyes moved to meet the sound of his voice. With a smile -- because the boy was right, if not technical -- Caspar gave a nod to show he'd heard the answer. "Very good, Charles." Caspar replied, before turning to the class as a whole.
"As Charles said, they have teeth, which means they will try to bite you if you get too close. However, the teeth are good for Potions ingredients. We harvest them, and we can use them in a variety of Potions -- however, you will have to speak to Professor Balan as to which Potions they go in, because I can't remember off of the top of my head." Caspar explained, giving something of a nervous laugh at the end of that sentence.
"So, as you may have guessed by now, we're going to be extracting the teeth -- don't worry, they grow new ones." He added, casting a glance at Sophie. "I hope I'm right in saying you should have all learned the Freezing Charm? If you use that on the plant, they will be immobilised -- but only temporarily, Fanged Geraniums are quite resistant -- so be quick, and replace the spell frequently, too.
"Any questions?" Caspar asked, looking around. If not, his students were welcome to crack on. |

| The Slytherin boy, whom Jerome was certain came from his year, though they'd never spoken, answered the teacher's question. Thankfully he was brief, and didn't waste time rambling on. The teacher went on to describe the practical, and what they had to do for the lesson, finishing off by asking if they had any questions.
"Sir," Jerome spoke up, "Is there any chance of like training them?" it was an odd question, "Like are they sentient enough to be told not to bite certain people? Or is it like a reflex that they just bite who or whatever's near?" It'd be interesting to know. Jerome could imagine some all powerful villain, perhaps with a wall of these plants as their first like of defence. If their opponent happened to be proficient in freezing charms... Well, it wouldn't do much to stop them except waste time. |
