Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Herbology: Lesson One (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyMon May 01, 2017 9:35 am

The summer had been too quick for Caspar who had spent most of his time travelling the world to see plants in their natural habitat. It had been one of the most fascinating trips he'd taken, but still hadn't been enough to satiate Caspar's need for new knowledge of plants.

That said, Caspar had not neglected his work, and had made up his lesson plans for the year. First of all, they would be looking at the Snargaluff. This plant might not look the most exciting, but if not dealt with correctly, it could be quite the dangerous plant indeed.

Waiting down in the greenhouse for his student to arrive, Caspar was pruning his orchids back with a soft hum. He was looking forward to this coming year, with Lux Bailey not coming back to his class. He could relax a little, but he would still have to endure Violet... Pulling away from the negative thoughts, Caspar continued with his pruning, wondering who would be the first to come through the greenhouse door.

Herbology was boring, and almost everyone could agree to that. That was why Elyah had never actually bothered to attend the class, and when she did, she wasn't overly happy about it, and she certainly did not pay much attention. But this year, there was this new, absolutely and insanely hot professor. And Elyah was a teenage girl, with hormones and plenty of room for stupid crushes. So that was the reason why she had forced herself to get ready and start walking towards the Greenhouses, determined to make a good impression on the Professor.

Upon arriving at the Greenhouse, Elyah smiled to herself when she saw that she was the only one there besides the Professor. That meant more time alone with him.
Keep a low profile, Elyah..
"Hello, Professor!"
Looking up at the charming man, Elyah flashed him a small smile, before moving farther into the room and waiting.

Herbology was something what Cassiopeia actually seemed to like. She was one of those who liked to come here and learn about different plants. She had always enjoyed nature and everything that seems to come with it. She isn't sure why but it has been always like that. So herbology was for sure interesting class for her.

This was the reason why she was here today, to learn something new about some new plant. She walked towards the Greenhouse where the class was held and had an even small smile on her face. She was happy.

She soon arrived there and walked in the greenhouse where the professor and some girl she didn't really know very well. She smiled. "Hello, professor," she said happily there. She looked around the room and noticed there some plants. She tried to remember what plants they were since those seemed to be familiar once for the girl for sure.

She was sure when she doesn't figure out it now she will get know it eventually when lesson starts so she decided to wait there now. She was hoping some other people will show up who seem to share her enthusiasm for this lesson.

Hazel didn't really like Herbology lessons. They seemed to be boring at times for her but there have been few fun classes too. So she at times still did decide to attend those lessons. Today was one of those when she walked end up walking towards the greenhouse so she should attend to Herbology.

She noticed that there really wasn't that many of people at the moment. "Hello," she said simply and noticed those other girls were students from her own house even. She didn't say anything about it and just waited there to lesson to begin now. She really wasn't sure what they will learn today about.

She didn't really know plants names from her mind. She just can't seem to remember them. She also needs to always check the spells before she uses them or else she will say something wrong there. Which always doesn't end up a good way.

PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson One (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) EmptySat May 06, 2017 8:02 am

Herbology had been an interesting class thus far, not because of the professor picking highly interesting plants to work with. No, poor Professor Loverin seemed to fail every lesson with a member of the student body. Sometimes, it was exasperating to watch the man fail, other times, it was amusing. But Arthur kept these thoughts to himself so that he would not get in to trouble.

Heading down to the greenhouses, Arthur let himself in and noted there were only three people (excluding the professor) there already. All female. All Hufflepuff. Perhaps the Hufflepuffs were having a good go at classes this year? Arthur wasn't sure, but once again, he didn't comment as he moved to an empty space and interacted with no one.

There wasn't a clue for the lesson, truthfully, so Arthur allowed his eyes to rove around the structure, taking in the different plants and wondering which of them the professor would be setting them loose on today.

Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson One (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) EmptySun May 07, 2017 8:28 am

Herbology was easily Wesley's favourite subject. You didn't have to know whether a spell was light or dark. You didn't have to defend yourself from others who were, potentially, trying to cause you harm. You just had to care for plants that would only really attack you if you tried to hurt them. There were, of course, exceptions to this rule, as there were with most things in the world, but Wesley liked this subject the most for these reasons.

Hurrying down to the greenhouses on his own, Wesley was in his own little world. Still trying to work out the Sorting Hat process that he'd been subjected to with the first years at the start of term. That had, in truth, been very, very embarrassing and he hoped he would never have to be put in to the spotlight like that again. Wesley was still learning what each of the houses meant, and trying to establish if he was in the right one.

But, his own view on that was halted when he reached the door to the greenhouse. Taking a deep breath, Wesley opened the door and stepped inside. It was a small class, thus far. This suited him to a tea. Moving to the side, Wesley simply stood quietly, waiting to find out what they were going to be doing today.

As the classroom began to fill up, Caspar smiled towards the students as they greeted him, responding in much the same manner as they did towards him even as he continued with his work. He knew, shortly, he would have to attend to the lesson in hand, but for now, Caspar finished the work he was doing, without creating conversation with his students.

Though, with all things, there was constraints on how much fun you could have, and as Caspar checked his watch, he noted that he had run out of time doing the things he wanted to. Putting down the tools he'd been using, Caspar turned to the class as a whole.

"Right, everyone, I guess we should make a start on today's lesson, shouldn't we?" He said with a small, uncertain smile on his lips. Caspar had never been the most comfortable teacher in the world, that much was quite obvious from the way he presented himself, but he did know what he was talking about. Moving across the room to the Snargaluff that they would be looking at today, Caspar motioned to the plant and then looked back at those before him.

"So, today, we will be looking at this plant. Who can tell me what it is?" Caspar asked, looking around at those before him. "Or, any of it's uses?" He prompted, trying to get a discussion going, if he could.

Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson One (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyWed May 17, 2017 6:10 am

Sophie loved Herbology; it was a close second to her favourite Care of Magical Creatures class. Perhaps it was all those times Grampa took her trekking through the trails on the property and taught her all the different types of plants they encountered. She'd taken an immediate interest, especially when Grampa went on to inform her of some of the uses of certain plants - mostly for curing particular illnesses amongst animals. After that, she'd experimented on her own when the farm animals got sick, boiling the leaves or crushing them with other ingredients that she would mix into the feed or apply to their skin.

As Professor Loverin - who she thought was rather cute because he was so awkward - started the class, she paid attention, grinning a little when he motioned to the plant. "That's a Snargalump," she responded to his question, then paused. No, that didn't sound right. "No, wait. Snargaluff," she corrected herself. "It's got fruit like... about that big," she continued, using both her hands to show the approximate size of a grapefruit.

PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson One (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyTue May 23, 2017 7:56 pm

Turning towards the voice of the Gryffindor witch who had spoken up, Caspar gave the witch a fond smile as she explained what the plant was - her first answer had not been right, and it was mildly amusing, but she had corrected herself. Smiling with pride - it wasn't an easy thing for a child to correct themselves - Caspar nodded as he listened to the young witch, she definitely knew her stuff, and Caspar loved finding students who had an interest in his subject.

"That's right, Sophie, well done! I think... yes, five points for Gryffindor for your answer!" Caspar acknowledged the answer with a small, nervous smile.

"So, today, we're going to be looking at trying to extract the green pods from the Snargaluff, Professor Balan has asked me to supply him with some because they can be used in Potions. We only have one of the plants to work with, which is ideal, because you need to work together. The plant can attack, so please go careful not to worry the plant. If you approach with caution, you will be able to pull the pods out." Caspar explained, excitement flashing in his eyes.

OOC: Heh... this is a sixth year's plant, so... have fun Smile

Sophie smiled proudly as Professor Loverin awarded her house five points. Her mistake in the name was rather embarrassing for her - names had always been her downfall when classifying plants, especially since the wizarding world had such strange names - but at least she'd managed to get it right the second time.

Professor Loverin continued speaking and Sophie listened. She didn't like Professor and she knew that not many students liked him as well. She didn't like the idea of helping him out by getting the pods for him but she also wasn't about to flunk this class because of that. She had a plan forming in her mind of how to get the pods out, but being the youngest year there - and in turn supposedly with the least amount of experience - she kept quiet. She knew she was talented at Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology, but she also didn't want to seem like a stuck up know-it-all.

When no one stepped forward, however, she spoke up. "I've got pretty fast reflexes," she began. It sounded boastful, but it was the truth. As someone who was used to working with skittish and high strung horses, she'd learned - the hard way - to react quickly if she didn't want a finger bitten off, a chunk of flesh gauged out from her face, or a hoof to her stomach. She also had pretty good judgement of distance from all the show jumping she did.

"If some of you can keep the vines away, I'll be able to get to the pods," she finished. "Or two of us can try to get the pods for a better chance, and the rest can keep the vines at bay."
