Herbology Lesson Two - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Herbology Lesson Two - All Years   Herbology Lesson Two - All Years EmptyThu Oct 01, 2015 7:05 pm

Adam had, truth be told, been a little saddened by his first lesson. He'd hoped to start with enthusiasm, but his lesson had seemed to fall a little flat. But, that would not deter the man as he set up for his second lesson of the year.

He hadn't changed the set up, hoping to get more people to the lesson, and had, instead, moved in to the greenhouses now that the snow had covered the grounds. Inside the greenhouses he'd placed a warming charm to keep both the plants and his students safe from the cold of the outdoors.

In the middle of the greenhouse stood many empty pots, and in a corner, under a silencing charm, today's lesson was concealed. Waiting for the students - who had been advised to bring ear muffs - Adam waited patiently for the students to arrive.

Hopefully they would find today's lesson much, much more interesting than before, but he wasn't sure.

Naomi bravely shoved her way through the snow to get the the Herbology class, with Finley in tow. She couldn't wait to learn more from their new professor, and she had a pretty good guess what they would be studying today. There were several loud plants, but only one required earmuffs to handle.

Mandrakes.

Practically vibrating with excitement, Naomi kicked snow away from the greenhouse door so she could open it. She sighed with relief as she entered the heated space. Although she liked the cold, even she had her limits. Stripping off her hat, gloves, and scarf, she stuffed them in her bag and greeted the professor.

"Hello Professor Samuels," she said, quiet, but excited. Naomi couldn't help the huge grin that was stretching across her face in excitement. She studied the room, noting the empty pots and playing a game to see how many other plants in the greenhouse she could identify.

Finley had followed Naomi down to the Herbology with a smile on his lips. The snow had fallen on the grounds which meant he could watch it flick off of his shoes - well boots, he'd swapped them for his shoes to go down to the greenhouse - as he walked and look back at the footprints behind him.

Footprints that had grown a lot in the few months they'd been back now as he grew taller too.

Finley had his ear muffs around his neck so he could hear Naomi as they walked along. The pair of them had already guessed the subject of today's lesson, and like Naomi, Finley was very excited for the lesson to begin. Mandrakes were cool plants, even if they could kill you.

Stepping in to the greenhouse and feeling the warmth, Finley shrugged his jacket off almost instantly, giving the professor a smile as Naomi greeted him. He still wasn't completely sure on the larger man, but as of yet they had no reason to dislike him, so Finley was a little less apprehensive for this lesson.

Lux sauntered down the path to the greenhouse. She'd dressed in a black turtleneck sweater with navy blue jeans paired with black knee high boots. She was named Ice Queen for one reason - she didn't mind the cold. Well, that and she didn't have a heart - or feelings for that matter. Skull earrings adorned her lobes and a series of black leather bangles and bracelets hung from her right wrist. Her earmuffs hung around her neck.

Lux pursed her lips. There could only be one reason they were asked to bring earmuffs to a herbology class. They would be working with mandrakes. She hated them. They were green monster babies who couldn't keep their mouths shut. Lux did to them what she did to babies who didn't know when to keep quiet. She imagined running a knife down from their forehead and slicing their bodies in half, watching them spill their guts - literally.

She entered the greenhouse and greeted the professor with a nod before scanning her eyes over the two students already present before completely ignoring them. She crossed her arms and waited for the class to start.

Nirek had missed most of the first lessons just because he hadn't quite gotten his sleeping pattern in to shape. But, with the second lesson of the year, and December now in swing, he didn't have an excuse. Except, perhaps, the cold.

Following a trail of people in to the ground, Nirek made the turn towards the Herbology greenhouses, hands in his pockets for warmth and earmuffs hanging around his neck as they were told they would need them for the work today. Nirek was not one who bothered to try and work out what they were going to be doing in the lesson, so he hadn't looked up why they would need the earmuffs.

Stepping in to the greenhouse, Nirek moved around the table to stand next to a Slytherin he didn't know. Which, for Nirek not to know who someone was, was a big thing. "Professor." The Gryffindor greeted the man at the front of the room, offering the witch beside him a small smile as he settled down for the lesson.

Evelyn had been careful to follow all of her professors instructions as to not get on their bad side. That is why when she read the notice stating that she would need earmuffs, she went out of her way to find them in her newly organised chest. The girl constantly reorganised things meaning she was constantly losing things. She was lookin forward to today's lesson, as Mandrakes intrigued her quite a bit, however she knew they could also seriously harm you.

Tucking her hair under her Ravenclaw winter hat and scarf, she walked out onto the grounds. Her winter coat immediately began to protect her from the warm and with her arms being crossed over her front to carry her Herbology book, it kept her even warmer.

The girl hated being outdoors, but she couldn't deny the beauty that engulfed her upon exiting the school. As she neared the greenhouses, she could see students and the professor through the walls. Entering, she greeted the Professor before turning to take her place in front a table.

As the class began to fill up, Adam smiled to each of those who entered in turn. He was happy to see more people had turned up for this lesson, which would hopefully mean it would be a better lesson on the whole.

Waiting until he could wait no longer for people to attend, Adam decided to crack on with the lesson. Teaching was still new to him, so sometimes he was unsure on what to expect, but Adam was optimistic about this.

"Good morning everyone. Welcome back to lessons, I hope you're all warm enough in here, but if it's too warm, please let me know and I'll adjust the heating for you." The professor insisted, hoping to come across exactly how he would come across outside the class - as a nice person.

"Today, for those who might not yet know, we will be looking at Mandrakes. Does anyone want to tell me what a Mandrake is?" Adam asked, looking around the class hopefully for answers.

Herbology Lesson Two - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson Two - All Years   Herbology Lesson Two - All Years EmptySat Oct 10, 2015 8:56 pm

Alfie was a hot mess. There were so many good classes to take, that he wasn't sure which ones he wanted, so he took almost all of them. He was over whelmed, and barley got time to spend with his brother who was almost always on the Quidditch pitch practicing to get on the team for next term. Alfie was proud of Cooper who never seemed to want to get involved in the school before, but now, he was getting more involved, and making friends in the process. He was actually doing better than Alfie was who seemed to be spending more and more time in the library like a typical Ravenclaw would.

So that was why he found himself running terribly late to Herbology. A subject he found most fascinating, and one that he enjoyed. So, he was quiet mortified that he was late, as he rarely was. He had a pile of books, with him as he entered the green house. He blushed as he saw everyone starring at him, and went to the nearest empty seat.

When he heard the question, he remembered the answer almost immediately. He had read the entire book over the summer and thought it was a good read. He learned a lot and thought that Herbology would be quiet easy. To try and redeem himself for being late, he raised his hand to be the first person to answer the question. He said, "If I may sir. The Mandrake, is the root of the plant that looks like a tiny human being. When it cries, it the sound can be deadly to anyone who hears it." Alfie nodded confident with his answer. This was going to be easy.

Noting another student enter, Adam nodded in the boy's direction as he took a seat. Whilst Adam was not a harsh man, he didn't much like tardiness, even if the kid hadn't made a scene of an entry. "Nice of you to join us." He told the Ravenclaw, though unlike most people, his tone wasn't spiteful in saying this.

When the same boy answered his question, Adam nodded a little in response. "Very good." He told the boy, seeing as he'd answered the question quite well. "As Alfie said, the mandrake resembles a small human, this is very true indeed, and the plant does, throughout it's life, act like a human in many ways. It has it's stroppy teen age, it's partying stage, and the stage... well, when it tries more adult things that I won't explain to you." Adam continued, giving a small nod to himself.

"Today, we will be working with the baby version of the mandrake, which means whilst the cries won't kill you, they can still knock you unconscious and earn you an overnight stay in the Hospital Wing. Which, I can assure you, will not get you out of doing homework. Everyone, please put your ear muffs on, and do not take them off until I give you permission.

"Please pair up, and have a go at repotting the Mandrakes, going careful not to hurt them." Adam instructed, motioning for them all to make a start.

Lux had been contented to let the professor drone on, listening but not really paying attention to what he was saying until he asked a question she knew the answer to. Having been curious as to why he had asked them to bring earmuffs, she'd flipped through her textbook and found the section on mandrakes, skimming through what was written.

Just as she was about to raise her hand and answer the question, a late arrival entered the greenhouse and beat her to the chase. Her narrowed eyes, promising danger, landed on the back of his head. Sucking up to the teacher huh? We'll see about that. She schooled her face back to neutrality. Although she tuned out most of what the professor said, she caught his mention of adult things and smirked.

Once he started giving instructions, Lux began to pay attention, feeling her ire rise at the mention of working with mandrake babies. She'd done more than her fair share of work with human babies at the orphanage since besides the usual rotation, she was punished with extra baby duty whenever she broke a rule - which was more often than she could count. Having to work with babies, no matter the species, was not something she particularly enjoyed.

Turning to the guy beside her, she raised an eyebrow and said, "Wanna pair up?" She preferred working alone but since they were told to pair up, she didn't have a choice.
