Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) EmptyWed Mar 08, 2017 6:54 pm

As Caspar had hinted in his last class, the next lesson would be on the plant, Venemous Tentacula. He'd asked the students to read up on the plant for homework, which he didn't think was too unreasonable, so he hoped they had done that. This would allow them to have a little bit of a head start, and hopefully make the lesson progress much more quickly.

In Greenhouse Four, Caspar stood in and amongst an abundance of plants - all magically warded, except for today's plant - waiting for his students to arrive. They were going to learn how to deal with the plant - those Caspar was using today were old seedlings he'd nurtured from a young age, they were going to be harvesting the plants to make new ones.

Slightly barbaric, perhaps, in the way he was going to teach today, but Caspar knew, that with exams coming up, the majority of the school was going to be stressed, and this was a good way to relieve a little bit of it.

Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) EmptyThu Mar 09, 2017 12:50 pm

Sophie headed to the greenhouses, her steps not as quick as usual. She'd read up on the Venemous Tentacula and hadn't liked what she'd learned. Oh, it wasn't that the plant was a dangerous one. That didn't bother her at all; she was used to dealing with poisonous plants. What bothered her was the way that people controlled them - cutting off their branches. She absolutely hated destroying - or hurting - anything that was alive. But maybe if that thing is trying to kill you then it's okay? But there were always better ways to deal with something other than slicing off parts of it. Right?

And so, slightly conflicted on how she felt about the class, Sophie approached Greenhouse Four. With a smile, she greeted the professor. "Hi professor!" Then, seeing that there was no one else around, ventured to ask the question that was bugging her. "We don't have to cut off their arms, right?" she said slowly. "I mean, if they don't hurt us and we're careful."

Stepping back, she waited patiently for the other students to arrive and the class to start.

As normal, Prim made her way towards the Greenhouses, a small soft smile upon her lips as she thought on this lesson; she didn't particularly like the sound of Venomous Tentacula and she had hated reading about them even more but this would prove to be just as an interesting lesson, she was sure.

Thankfully she had read ahead like Professor Loverin asked so she knew what to expect, at least in what she was going to be facing that lesson. Ruffling her blond locks, Prim hobbled her way towards Greenhouse Four where their lesson would take place.

She noticed that she wasn't the first one there and smiled in amusement at the small firsty from her house and her question; oh how she loved naive kids, they were so cute. "Hello Professor Loverin!" The female waved her hand with a grin on her lips. "And hello to you as well Sophie." She said to the eleven-year-old who was asking about not cutting off arms; unfortunately no matter how well behaved the plant was or how well behaved they were, there would always need to be brutality.

Naturally, the homework assigned had been completed the day it was assigned. More so than just that, Serenity had gone back and done as much research on the plant as possible, wanting to be more than averagely prepared for the lesson, especially considering the textbook assigned to them only had one section on Venomous Tentaculas. Aunt Sally had many books in her house, including one on Magical Gardening, and Serenity had found that to be much more detailed in certain aspects of the plant -- the growth process, the feeding process, and all sorts of other technical terms that she had to look up the meaning to.

But, at least, she felt prepared for the lesson; she was certain that whatever was thrown at them, she'd be able to answer or do with a certain degree of certainty.

Diffindo had been, apparently, the go-to spell, and upon return to Hogwarts she had practised that a little. The last thing she wanted was to be caught off guard and have to have someone rescue her from the plant. No, the only person she could trust to keep herself safe was Tammie and herself, and perhaps Aunt Sally.

Greenhouse 4 was located without much issue, and she stepped inside, nodding a hello at the Professor and keeping to herself as always.

The homework had proved to provide somewhat of a mixed-feelings thing when it came to the class. On one hand, plants were easy to deal with; you never needed to talk to them or anything of that sort. On the other, one of the only ways to handle the Venomous Tentacula was a spell -- a spoken, verbal spell, and that always meant trouble.

Hiding a worried expression and hoping that it wouldn't be so much a spell-based class but one where they just observed the plant or something to that extent, Amber made her way to Greenhouse 4. Herbology was an interesting subject in any case, although her passion was far from ignited when it came to plants, and she stepped into the warm room with a semi-smile.

Nodding at the professor, she gave him a tentative wave. That was the proper hello for BSL, in any case, and while she had to constantly remind herself she wasn't saying 'goodbye', it made sense to everyone else. Making her way to the front of the class so she could at least try and lip read what the Professor was saying (although it wasn't always possible; she wasn't the best of it) she waited for Elleon to arrive, as always.

Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) EmptyFri Mar 10, 2017 6:39 am

Plants were, by nature, boring. They didn't really [i]do[/i[ anything, with a few exceptions of actually interesting ones that could kill or injure people. Based on the homework given this was, Corbin was excited to see, apparently one such class.

The venomous tentacula was something that could kill if not taken care of properly, and the prospect of dealing with something this dangerous made his adrenalin start pumping. Hoping the class was going to be more practical than show-and-tell, Corbin entered the glasshouse, the humidity of the place making him wrinkle his nose in distaste.

Heat wasn't something he particularly enjoyed. It made him feel sticky and his hair never stayed put in conditions like this. It was different when he was playing sports, because not only was he dressed for it, but he expected to get sweaty. Here, it was just messy, and it ruined his looks; nobody looked nice with damp hair and flushed cheeks while in school uniform. He'd tried before.

With a simple "Professor," for greeting, he glanced around at the other students there and sighed inwardly; there wasn't anyone fun around. So, not saying anything, he stood with arms crossed and waited for either class to start or someone he knew to arrive.

It wasn't that hard to find Greenhouse Four and Lux knew that class wasn't going to begin yet so she took her own time walking out of the school building. As she walked, she went over what she'd read about the Venomous Tentaculas. In all honesty, she'd completely forgotten that the professor had assigned reading homework. It wasn't until an hour before Herbology class that she remembered. She'd skimmed through the textbook, picking out what she thought would be important information.

From what she'd read, she managed to gather that it was a dangerous plant, and for that, Lux couldn't wait to see it. She normally didn't look forward to Herbology, but what's not to love about a plant that could essentially strangle or poison you to death? Would death by strangulation hurt more, or death by poison? It would depend on the poison, I suppose. If the poison was the kind that made for a quick and easy death, it wouldn't be as fun as feeling the breath leave your body and struggling but failing to draw in oxygen. Then again, if the poison was the slow kind, making you suffer as long as you were alive and making you wish for death...Now that would be simply amazing.

Arriving at the greenhouse, Lux didn't bother to greet anybody as she stood at the back. All she wanted to do was get close to the plants and see what they were like.

Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years)   Herbology: Lesson Three (All Years) EmptyFri Mar 10, 2017 8:34 am

Herbology was a lesson that Roxanne wasn't overly fond of purely because she hated working with plants, she didn't have the so-called green thumb but she could still get by. She did like Herbology in the sense that most, if not all, Potion's Ingredients you could learn about in these lessons.

When she read about the plant that they would be covering today she had been, frankly, amused. Venomous Tentacula was a dangerous yet docile plant as long as you didn't mean it any harm, but she supposed it could be said the same about many plants that they were covering; they were all dangerous plants but they were also fairly docile.

The German student made her way into the greenhouse and grimaced at seeing many people there, her magic purring when it felt another student's Dark Magic though she didn't dare looking around to see who it was and instead nodded her head in a greeting to the Professor.

"Hello Professor Loverin."

Elleon wasn't sure if he'd wanted to attend this class. When Professor Loverin had assigned them homework, Elleon had read up on the required material - and hadn't enjoyed what he'd read. Was there really a necessity to learn about such dangerous plants. Well, perhaps there was because he'd rather be able to identify one and stay away than get caught and poisoned.

At least he'd gotten the severing charm somewhat right. After learning about what they'd be doing in Herbology, he'd hunted his sister down and asked her to go over the charm with him. She had to skip an outing with her friends but Elleon promised to make it up to her. The session hadn't gone as well as he'd hoped but he now had a fifty-fifty chance of getting the spell right. That's a 50% chance you're gonna get strangled or poisoned. Make that 100%, 50 for strangulation and 50 for poisoning.

He sighed, rubbing his forehead with his fingers as he approached the greenhouse. As usual, his eyes roved the crowed trying to pick out a certain blonde. It wasn't hard to spot her, and Elleon tapped his way through the crowd of students until he was beside his best friend. "I hope Professor Loverin has those things chained up or binded or something," he said, putting emphasis on that last word with his facial expression.

Oliver had forgotten to do the homework for Herbology. And he'd only actually remembered that there had been homework when he'd overheard a couple of other Hufflepuffs talking about said homework on the way down to the greenhouses. He had inwardly berated himself about that much.

Venemous Tentacula, that was all he knew about this lesson.

Anything past that, he was at a loss. Cursing his terrible luck (or, more accurately, lack of organisational skills) Oliver hurried down to the greenhouse as they were required. It wouldn't do well to be both late and unprepared.

Slipping through the door of the greenhouse, the heat hit him hard, and Oliver took a moment to get his bearings, before noticing Serenity. They'd only spoken once... but he didn't see as it could hurt to say hi. Moving to her side, Oliver did exactly that, giving the witch a small smile, but not striking up a conversation, because they were in lessons.
