Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptyThu Jan 01, 2015 11:19 am

First classes always made people nervous, and despite the fact that he was the Professor, the nerves were most definitey there. Dami had long since moved the stuff around inside the greenhouses, not wanting to have to spend his teaching hours inside. Merlin knew that would be very bad for him; being indoors or away from plants for too long a period made him twitchy.

So, instead, he had turned the classoom greenhouse to just a greenhouse, using it to store a wide variety of plants from his own personal collection. There were no desks inside, only plants, soil, and empty pots. The teaching, he had already decided, would be done outdoors. If it rained, a tarp could be set up to prevent them getting wet - or the students, really. Damien didn't mind teaching in the rain.

Today, luckily, was a perfect day, with the sun sending warm rays down to kiss the earth, not fire, and a light wind blew. A plan for class had not fully presented itself to the man just yet, but he knew what he wanted to acomplish - a brief introduction and to see what his students of different years already knew.

Leaning against the wall of the greenhouse, he waited, glancing at his watch to see how long more it would be before the ordeal of the first class was over. The worst part was it hadn't even started yet.

Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptyThu Jan 01, 2015 2:51 pm

When the teachers had suggested that they reduce their subjects down for their N.E.W.T.S. Victoria had been completely confused with the notion of taking less subjects. Why would you want to limit yourself when you could explore so many avenues of different subjects? Victoria couldn't work it out, and after a long discussion with the professors, the witch had managed to convince them she was capable of keeping on all of her O.W.L. subjects from the year before.

Under the promise that if it got too much, she would tell them straight away and rearrange her timetable. This, of course, meant Victoria had to be given a time turner to be able to attend all the classes, but she didn't mind. So much knowledge was just asking to be consumed, and Victoria made sure that was possible.

So this morning, Victoria was skipping down the path to Herbology with her usual smile set on her lips, humming Spandau Ballet's Gold as she went. It didn't take long to get to the greenhouses, and as usual, Professor Peat was stood outside, waiting for them. "Good morning, professor! Nice holidays?" Victoria asked happily, taking in the area and wondering what they might be doing that day.

Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptyThu Jan 01, 2015 8:49 pm

The perfect start to the year had to be the good weather and Herbology first thing. Even the walk to class felt refreshing after being in a single stifling room all summer and the Hogwarts lawns were always immaculate. Louise trotted towards the greenhouses, with Professor (her pet squirrel) perched on her shoulder. She'd told him repeatedly he couldn't follow her around this year but he was far more persistent with sticking close by. He wasn't likely to get in the way but it might draw attention to her, which she didn't really want.

As she came into view of the greenhouses she spotted a Hufflepuff student already there, the girl always seemed to be happy about something, it was nice to see. Louise waved to Professor Pete and to victoria.
"Morning. Uh Professor I hope you don't mind if my squirrel stays with me, I've tried making him stay in the common room but he keeps getting out. He wont be any trouble I promise." She asked hurriedly, she didn't want to get in trouble for having him around on the first day back, but there wasn't much she could do other than caging her familiar but she didn't want to do that either.

Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptyFri Jan 02, 2015 10:17 am

The first day of lessons was finally here, and Finley was excited. He didn't care if that came across as geeky, he enjoyed learning, and no-one would change his mind on that fact. Finley was so very glad when he saw Herbology on his list. It was one of the lessons he wasn't completely awful in.

Hurrying down to the greenhouses, Finley had a moment of confusion when there wasn't anyone in there, but a few moments later he noted the Head Girl and another older student that he didn't recognise. Moving to join the two of them and the professor, Finley sent a nervous smile towards the professor and stood in between the Head Girl and the Slytherin, looking between them cautiously. Hufflepuffs were always nice, so Finley wasn't worried about the Head Girl, and the Slytherin... well, Finley wasn't overly sure.

"M-morning, Professor." Finley acknowledged their professor a moment later, realising he hadn't spoken. Looking around, the Ravenclaw wondered what they might be doing today.

Being out in the grounds in the morning was most certainly something welcomed in Josh's mind. The castle wasn't stuffy, of course, but Josh wouldn't deny he liked the outdoors much more than being inside. Of course, even though that might be true, Josh didn't make it well known to others what his preferences were. They didn't need to know, and he would keep them from knowing in most opportunities.

Heading down to the greenhouses, Josh noted the small group that was gathering and moved behind them. Josh pinpointed no one in the group to stand with, simply because he wasn't that kind of person. People moved to him, he didn't move to people.

It seemed nothing had started yet, so Josh crossed his arms over his body, looking as impressed with the world as he always did - which meant he didn't look in any way impressed at all. His eyes bore in to the professor before him, wondering how much it would take to have the man scared. The thought was an amusing one, but it didn't show on Josh's features.

Herbology. Flowers, air, environment. What else could Amethyst ask for?
She loved being outside simply because it made her feel free. Like the birds flying in the sky. It made her feel as if no one could touch her.
It was no coincidence that her favourite season was winter. She liked cold, she liked the winter breeze, and she liked being outside when all that happened.

Making her way to the Greenhouses with a bright smile, Amethyst was ready for today's lesson. She was a cheerful person. Always had been. But Herbology along with Divination were her best subjects.
It was as if she was born for them. Or maybe it was the fact that she believed she had that charisma, even though her self esteem was extremely low.
They girl had the beauty, both on the inside and outside, but she just wouldn't allow herself to see that.

Once she arrived outside the class, her smile almost fell at the sight of Murray. Why did he always have to be anywhere she went? Was it fate? She didn't want to accept that fact, even though Divination taught her otherwise.
Probably extremely bad luck, I would say,she thought as her smile turned to a frown.
Looking around, she spotted Victoria once again but decided to stay towards the back, alone, this time. Glancing over at Murray one more time, she moved opposite of him, standing alone with her arms crossed over her chest.

PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptySat Jan 03, 2015 10:24 am

Time for her favorite subject! With her favorite professor! This day could not get any better, Allegra thought to herself, she'd been meaning to see Professor Peat anyhow, she'd had a particularily good crop of Jewelweed, a magical plant that grew native where she lived and was thus sometimes hard to come by in Great Britain, and one of the Cobra Lily's had managed to crossbreed  with a Jewelweed resulting in a vibrantly coloured Lily that spat venom and smelled a bit like it was constantly on fire.

Allegra had it in one of her little magical ecosystem bulbs, a clear glass-like orb with a miniscule, functioning ecosystem to nourish the life encased in it, a spell that her old herbology teacher in Mexico had taught her as the climate in Mexico could sometimes be rather unforgiving towards plantlife. The bulb was safely in her bag, awaiting the end of class so Allegra could bring it to Prof. Peat.

But first, Victoria. Allegra grinned and hurried to her best friend, not having seen her yet since Allegra had gotten up at five to tend to her little creation, and kissed her on the cheek as a greeting. "Hello Professor!"

Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptySun Jan 04, 2015 10:52 am

Alexander had no idea where he was heading, truth is. It was a usual morning, always waking up late, skipping breakfast just to be on time, and now he was heading towards a class he did not remember,-but did remember it was outside-, with his stomach growling.
Alex loved food. Sometimes he pretended he had a relationship with it.
But due to the fact that he could not sleep early and wake up on time, he always ended up hungry and grumpy.

As he walked down the path, he saw people gathered outside the Greenhouse.
Herbology it is, then, he thought and started making his way towards the bunch of people standing outside. There weren't many of them, but still... a bunch.
Alexander liked to be around people, it cheered him up on days like these. But food would be much better.

"Morning Professor," he mumbled as he arrived outside the Greenhouse. He let out a yawn and found a tree, leaning against it as he closed his eyes, almost drifting off.
Thankfully, someone would poke him before the class started, or else he would be standing there, probably snoring a bit.

Taylor always thought that Herbology was a strange subject. In the muggle word, it would be called gardening, and it wasn't usually taught at schools either. She had never really been interested in plants or anything like that, though she had to admit that she did like the outdoors and preferred exploring outside rather than sitting inside.

As she neared the crowd, she looked around, taking in everybody who was there. Taylor was no good at making friends, so figured she would just stand among the throng of people and wait until somebody noticed her- which could happen, or she would stay a shadow for the entire lesson. Maybe she should change and start a conversation for once.

She walked across the grass and stood next to a tall blonde boy who she noticed was wearing a Slytherin uniform, meaning she had to tread carefully.
"Any idea what we're supposed to be learning today?" She asked him softly, not making eye contact though, she glanced at the teacher but didn't say anything to him as she didn't understand how he could teach gardening every day.

Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years)   Herbology Lesson 1 (All Years) EmptySat Jan 10, 2015 2:04 pm

The first student to arrive was one of his favourites, Victoria, but surprisingly, her best friend - and his other favourite student - was not there with her. Smiling softly at the witch, he nodded. "Yes, thank you. I went to the jungles of Cambodia. Yourself?' Soon after, a Slytherin arrived, and he shook his head in reply.

Conversation was never something he was good at unless he enjoyed the company of those he was with, but as a Professor, he was forced on a daily basis to communicate with different people. As such, he found he was getting particularly good at pretending. "As long as he does not try to damage any of my plant specimens, it should not be a problem with me," he replied seriously; he was more worried about his plants than any creature.

The next few students that came included a Slytherin that he was not particularly fond of. Why, he could never figure out, but for some reason, Josh made him more nervous than any other person he had met before. It was only then that Allegra arrived, and he smiled at her, as well, replying her greeting.

Two more arrived, and he checked his list beside him before straightening. There were some missing, but he felt that he had waited enough, and Damien was really excited about this lesson. Permission had been granted and all that was left was to conduct it.

Stepping forward, he looked around at the students, avoiding the gaze of the Slytherin, and nodded to himself. "Good morning, class," he said, even though he had already greeted more than half of them personally. "For those of you who do not know me, my name is Damien Peat, and I teach Herbology. You may call me whatever you please, for I am not one to be picky about names."

"Today, we will be covering a plant that I am particularly in love with. One of the more fascinating specimens, it is well known around the world for being dangerous, but a basic spell can keep you safe." He paused for a moment. "I am talking about Devil's Snare. Now, who can tell me about it? One answer each, please."
