Not a single word.
Not a single glimmer of recognition.
Josh's efforts of finding, harvesting and bringing the plants that his Azalea had always loved so very much, had brought nothing forth from the witch before him. Even as her hands moved to the plants, no connection was formed between the two beings. Nothing.
But Joshua Murray was not going to quit.
And, so they sat for over an hour, with the vines in the semi-darkness. Josh trying to coax something, anything from his Azalea, and receiving nothing more than "That sounds very interesting." or silence in return for everything he tried to explain to the witch.
As the time passed away, Joshua's patience thinned. It was not his Azalea's fault, and he knew that. She was trying, of that much he was sure. Checking his watch, Josh noted they'd spent long enough in the greenhouses for today, and aided Azalea to her feet. Showing her back through the greenhouse after dusting the dirt from her dress the best he could, the current heads of the Murray family perused the garden in a leisurely walk.
Silent, as Josh brooded through the lack of progress, but leisurely.
As they always did.
