| Sasha smiled towards the professor when he had said that she was doing a good job there basically now. "Thanks," she said there even just in the case. She was sure yeah she could try to use this spell on something heavier than the chair. So the girl looked around the classroom and she knew that she will find something that she could pull towards her again.
She soon noticed the student desk, so she decided to use the spell on it. She said it again and at first, she really wasn't so successful. She knew it she can do it if she just concentrates more. So she tried to focus on the desk and same time pulling. So eventually she moved the desk towards her and Sasha was glad to be successful in it too. She was slowly making her magic be stronger than it was. She knew that most things she learns in her lessons she might never need again but then again you never know.
The Hufflepuff Prefect listened what Jake said there now when everyone had done their tasks basically there. She was a bit surprised about it but then again at times you need do things like this too, so it made sense to her. She looked at Delia and then everyone else around the classroom. She wasn't sure how well Delia did it in this class, she didn't really pay attention to that. Anyways she hoped this pair up will go well.
She walked were Delia was. So they could do this. She hoped the girl was okay to be paired with her. She herself didn't really have anything against this Gryffindor girl really. She didn't really know her so well yet. "Hey, you're ready to do this?" she asked there before she even did anything. She knew that eventually, they will have to do what Jake had asked them to do. |

| Mercy grinned as Jake toppled over, then released the spell so he could climb to his feet again. She nodded as she listened to his advice. She'd gone for both legs because she knew that if he had one leg free and was able to pull back, his superior size and strength would give him a good chance of retaining his balance--whereas with two legs trapped, he'd fall over if she just pulled hard enough. However, this was all hypothetical, so she decided it was worth a shot going for one leg next time just to see if it really was easier.
She nodded to signal she was ready, standing with her feet shoulder width apart, a slight bend in her knees. It was a solid stance, and provided good balance. She knew she wasn't really supposed to fight back, but she wanted to at least try to resist.
Jake's spell snagged her right ankle, and she automatically shifted her weight to her left foot. As it turned out, she was left footed, though her dad had made sure she could use both with equal ease, especially when it came to football. Jake's initial tug threatened to pull her down, but she leaned back against it, attempting to compensate, and succeeding at first. Then he pulled again, and she fell backwards onto the softened floor.
She let out a giggle as she landed, bouncing a little. Immediately, she jumped back to her feet, and awaited the next portion of the exercise. |

| Jake had been right in his estimations of Mercy, she did not go down without trying to fight the spell, and once more, Jake could feel the pride at the young witch's tenacity growing in that moment. Taking a step forward when the witch finally toppled over, Jake was about to offer his hand to help her up, when Mercy all but bounced back up on her feet.
Smiling at her, Jake held his wand up in the almost universal sign of a challenge to a duel.
"Ready?" He asked the young witch, knowing he was in for a very good show with the young witch, who always worked hard in his lessons. Once she'd confirmed, Jake readied his wand. He would let her cast first, and block it away from himself, before returning his own spell only a few seconds later to see how she would get on. Then, from there, they would see how they got on. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~ | |

| Just as Jake was getting in to the small duel with Mercy, the bell sounded. Which hadn't really come as a surprise. They had gotten so much further with the lesson than Jake could have expected, and he was mightily glad that they had. The lesson had been much more enjoyable than he'd anticipated, but he could only hope his students felt the same way.
"Right, everyone..." Jake said, turning to the rest of the class to find them... not doing anything. Frowning to himself at this, the Defence Professor shook his head. "I must say I'm disappointed that some of you didn't jump in to the lesson, but, never mind. Your loss, I suppose!" He said with a small smile that tried to show he wasn't too annoyed.
"Your homework is to practice up on this spell, though please try not to injure each other!" Jake said, before motioning for them to hurry along. But, before he did, Jake's attention fell on Mercy. "Well done today, Mercy!" He praised the young witch, before giving her a small wave.
You weren't supposed to have favourites, and Jake knew that, but Mercy Williams was a spitfire, and in a sense, she reminded Jake of Victoria with her tenacious streak.
