The Main Hall & Ballroom

The Main Hall & Ballroom Wackydracky_web_site_a021001

For those who love the thrill of the ball, this is the area to hurry to! The Great Hall has been transformed in to a hall full of smaller tables than usual, covered in cobwebs and spiders (you'll have to work out for yourself if they're real or not!), pumpkins and candy of multiple variations!

As waiters pass by, dressed up in Halloween costumes, you'll be able to catch up with your friends, compare outfits and dance until you can stand no more!

The ceiling has been altered to show a stormy night, with a flash of lightning brightening the room every now and again. Silhouettes of witches can be seen flying across the night sky, and the candles that usually hang from the ceiling have been changed for hundreds of small pumpkin lanterns instead.

A space has been made for the dancefloor, and at the front of that, a stage for the night's bands brought in to play for the students.

Nilla did not usually attend these sorts of events, balls were not her style. But as a masquerade, she found the idea rather appealing. Of course, there was no way they'd get her into a dress even for an occasion like this, and she wasn't about to fawn over her appearance like the other girls. No, Nilla was quite content to stand out just this once by being herself. Her costume was a masterpiece, if she did say so herself. Entirely black and menacing. No heels, partly because her prosthetic doesn't allow heels more than an inch, but mostly because she simply doesn't like them. Her mask is something she's immensely proud of. With a last tug to situate the hood of her jacket, she sauntered out of the common room and down the stairs.

She arrived in the ballroom with a swagger, and frowned briefly at the absence of people. No surprise to her, though. Considering how much more time the other girls must be spending on their outfits, they were likely to be a while yet. Nilla meandered about the room, taking note of the decorations--the cobwebs looked eerily real, and Nilla grinned at the thought of a spider accidentally landing on one of the prissy girls in their frilly dresses. With a sigh, she slumped into a chair and awaited the real start of this shin-dig.

By the time Daniel had realised what he had put himself up for, it was much too late to back out. He'd told Naomi what he'd done and her small smile at his mistake had made him forget his annoyance though. He'd invited her along, to keep him company, if she wanted to, but he knew that leaving Theo with someone else might not be to the witch's liking.

So, after really pushing the fancy dress to a minimum, Daniel had stepped in to the hall with a small sigh. He'd asked all of the teachers to be there if they could, and hopefully they would come to enjoy the night too. He'd told them they could bring their partners - where applicable - if they wanted to, but of course, they had to have a quick safety check before being allowed around the children.

The hall had been decorated beautifully, the Head Girl, along with the prefects and House Elves had really pulled through with the idea, and Daniel was very, very proud of them all. Music was already playing, and Daniel couldn't help but smile to himself as he mulled between the tables, watching as the hall slowly began to fill up with students and staff alike.

Hopefully it would be a success, because the children's happiness was important to Daniel.

Dan was so excited for this. An opportunity to really dress how he liked. His suit was among his favored items of clothing, being leather and black. Under it was a simple button down and a leather bow-tie. His pants were tight, black denim trousers held up by black and white checkered suspenders. The mask...well, the mask he found was possibly his most favorite part of the whole ensemble. A cracked, victorian-esque affair with silver accents covering the right half of his face and across his entire brow. Briefly he had contemplated donning leather gloves as well, but dismissed the idea after viewing himself in the mirror. Dan rather liked how mature the outfit made him look.

He shrugged the suit jacket into place on his shoulders and straightened his tie one last time before he strode out of his dorm and up to the main level. When he arrived, he noted the presence of only one other student, and the Headmaster. Hopefully more would show up soon and he could begin receiving compliments on his masterful appearance. After all, what was the point of dressing up if not to show off?

Emi was quite shocked to be invited to the Hogwarts Masquerade Ball, in fact, she was excited, beyond excited even. She had owl'd Mummy and told her all about it, before realising that a schoolwide event meant tons of people and if it wasn't for having her parents push her, she would've never went. Fear gripped her as she moved out of her bed and begun getting ready. Her hair had been blown dried the night before and now stood poofed up, so she slowly worked on it. Teasing the top ever so slightly, she pulled it back, leaving a piece of her fringe down and clipped it with bobby pins, being sure to hide them as best she could. Next, she took her fringe, and draped it loosely across the side of her face clipping it behind her ear.

When the curling wand had grown hot enough, she began to curl all the loose hair in ringlets spiraling down her back. When she was completely finished her hair, she began applying makeup. Despite the fact that she'd be wearing a mask, she carefully traced on eyeliner and mascara as the eye holes would be large enough to see the area around her eyes. However, that was the extent of her eye makeup. She applied a deep red to her lips and splashed a hint of colour onto her cheeks, causing the natural rosy colour to shine red.

Careful not to mess up her hair, she shrugged her dress on from the bottom up. It was beautiful, though at the time of picking it out, she second guessed it. The top was strapless and fit rather snug like a corset would, which she wasn't fond of, but it was her favourite dress and her mother wouldn't allow her to talk herself out of it. The dress was a lavender one, the top adorned with swarovski crystals placed perfectly creating a genuine amount of bling without overdoing it.  The dress had a piece of tulle that was traced in silver glitter that draped down along her right hip. The bottom, had a satin piece that laid against her skin, while tulle laid over it, giving it the poof effect. One of the girls in her dorm helped her zip it up and after, she gave it a little test spin, smiling. She loved dresses and this was by far, her favourite.

She tied on her mask careful to not ruin her hair or makeup and stared at herself in the full length mirror. The mask was a swan shaped Venetian one that was a metallic silver colour. It took up half of her face, with the swan part taking up the left half of her forehead. Around the eyes had purple glitter and there were purple, white and silver flower and swirl designs on it. It was attached to her by a thin satin purple ribbon. She slipped on a pair of lavender coloured ballet flats, and hooked a crystal necklace around her neck before leaving her dorm and heading to where the Ball would be held.

He tummy was turning in fear of socialisation, but when she arrived, there were only two other students. A girl and a boy, both of whom she believed she'd seen in classes. Her form looked even smaller in her dress and as she entered, her dress gracefully swept the floor around her. Se felt the anxiousness go away and moved to gather near to them, not wanting to be standing alone all that much, however she didn't speak to them, instead she nodded and gave a slight curtsy.

When a girl from Dan's own house entered the room, he turned and grinned. Happy to have a familiar face. She didn't say anything as she moved to sit near them, but Dan continued to smile and admire her dress. A fabulously brilliant affair it was, not too flashy, but certainly girly. Almost the complete opposite of the other girl in the room who appeared to be hiding under her drooping hood. "Darlin', you look absolutely marvelous," he commented with his best southern charm. It was true, really. Gay as he was, he could still admire a beautiful girl every now and again and this young lady certainly fit the bill.

She looked a little nervous and he wondered how such a lovely lady could possibly be nervous, but he wasn't about to make it worse my moving suddenly. Slowly, he slid into a seat next to her and cocked his head curiously. He nudged her shoulder gently with his own, "Hey," he whispered softly. "You're in a mask," he stated. "You can be anyone you wish to be. That's the beauty of it. Just for tonight you're not whoever you usually are, you're a princess, or a grim reaper," at this he gestured towards the other girl. "Or a fabulously dressed, modern-day Phantom," he paused briefly for dramatic effect, because if Daniel Gjerstad was nothing else, he was dramatic. "Who'm I kidding. I'm always fabulously dressed," he added with a grin.

When Hailey had heard about the Halloween masquerade ball, her top priority was finding something to wear that matched her obsession with aliens. Since the rumor of aliens being green, Hailey thought that green would be her go-to color. And green matched her skin complection perfectly. But the hard part was just beginning. Not only did she have to find a dress, but pick the right shade of green, and mask that went with it. Hailey's mother sent her over magazines of dresses and she was told that there was know price limit and she could pick what ever she wanted. She was a little spoiled after all.

So after a numerous amount of nights looking through her selections multiple times, she finally found a dress. It was a darker shade of green. It had a heart shaped neck line, and didn't have the princessey poof that everyone expected from an eleven year old girl. It flowed down, and had a layer of tool over the silky green fabric. Her shoes were ballet flats as she couldn't stand to walk around in heels all night, and didn't want blisters. They were the same shade of green as the dress, and had a petite bow on the toe of the shoe. Hailey decided to straighten her rough textured curly hair that was normally kept in natural bongy curls.

After numerous hours of looking for a mask, Hailey finally found the perfect one that would hopefully complete the alien look that she was trying to portray. She found a gold mask, with the same shade of green lining the eyes as her dress. It had a gold silk ribbon to hold it in place so she wouldn't have to worry about loosing it throughout the night. The mask had white detail, and sparkled when the light touched it. When Hailey looked at her completed look she smiled at herself in the mirror, and took the picture that she promised she would send to her mother.

Hailey hadn't really been social through out the term. She supposed it had something to do with her outburst in the ice cream parlor over summer. But she didn't mind being alone. When one was alone, it created less drama. So, being alone, Hailey skipped the hallways to her destination of the main hall. She smiled when she looked around. A few people had shown up. Who they were she didn't know. But that was what the fun of a masquerade ball was right? She wondered silently if there were going to be aliens in disguise here that night... But, if she were to meet one, she would never know right? It would be a mystery...

After the meeting with Olivia, Victoria had spent her (limited) free time looking in to the rights of werewolves. It was hard to find anything on equality for such human beings, and the more she looked, the more Victoria realised that her ideas on the world were out of date. It had hurt, to start with, but as the young witch had progressed through the reading, it had helped her realise what she wanted to do once she left Hogwarts.

And it was for that reason that Victoria had decided to make a statement at the ball.

Well, she was going to try.

As everyone busied themselves with the preparations for the ball, Victoria had picked out a ruffled, black dress for herself. This had given off the effect of something that had been shredded time and time again - something that likely happened to a werewolf's clothes every time they transformed. It hopefully looked like the material had been put back together, as that was the look she was going for.

From there, Victoria had filed her fingernails in to points - they weren't overly long, but it worked enough to give a subtle hint as to her costume for the night. From there, she had picked out a relatively simple mask, deciding not to overdo her look because that wasn't the aim.

Victoria's hair, however, was probably where the statement came from. One side of her head had been transformed in to a beautiful braid, whilst the other had been back brushed for longer than she'd cared to admit. Victoria had slipped in to it small twigs and leaves that she had found on the grounds to make it look something like a transformation.

It was different, and Victoria was very aware that her choice of attire wasn't conventional, but for once, she didn't want to be. Stepping in to the Great Hall, Victoria smiled at the show of all the hard work and effort she'd put in to make it look this good. Victoria wondered if Olivia would show, after the invite she'd been given, but Victoria wasn't sure.

So instead, she did what she did best, and she started to get the party started, by moving to take the girl's hand who'd just entered the ball a few moments before, dressed in green. "Shall we dance?" Victoria asked the younger student, smiling encouragingly, and then motioning to the other two students. "We can get those two, too, if you'd like, and have a group dance!"

PostSubject: Re: The Main Hall & Ballroom   The Main Hall & Ballroom EmptySun May 17, 2015 1:58 pm

In complete honesty, Finley had fully intended to avoid the Ball no matter the cost. He didn't wish to spend the evening in a room filled with people in funny costumes under the premise that he had to talk to them. What good was a mask anyway when the moment he would speak he would stutter and anyone who hadn't known it was him would then know.

No, the whole thing seemed silly, and he'd honestly been looking forward to a quiet evening in the common room, reading.

However, such things weren't permitted, apparently, because Naomi had been much too excited about the idea of the ball and insisted that they go. Finley had thought about arguing, but the excitement on his best friend's face had been too much for him to say no to. So, instead, Finley had agreed, and Naomi had explained her idea. Robin Hood was a story Finley had always loved, and since they'd been building bows and arrows, it made sense. Naomi had wanted to be Robin Hood (he had been so thankful she'd said that and not Maid Marion because that would have been very awkward), so Finley had taken the spot as Little John. Not that it mattered, of course, their outfits were very alike.

The mask had been the hardest part of the outfit, for Finley, but he wasn't fond of the mismatched colours. His mum would probably have a field day if she could see him now, but Finley didn't think about it. They'd used their real bows, but gone with pretend arrows, after all, they didn't want the professors to confiscate them.

As they moved in to the Great Hall, Finley couldn't help but marvel at the decorations, turning to his best friend and grinning. "O-Okay, I t-think the idea w-wasn't so bad." He told her with a grin, though now they were here, he wasn't sure what they were supposed to be doing now. So, Finley just loitered by Naomi's side, wondering who was behind each mask.

The Main Hall & Ballroom Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Main Hall & Ballroom   The Main Hall & Ballroom EmptySun May 17, 2015 2:14 pm

It had taken her a considerable amount of time, planning, and corresponding with her twin to come up with an outfit, but she had finally gotten all the parts in play. It had not been easy, especially since she had to costume order some of the pieces, but a nicely written letter to daddy had helped, and the price had not even been considered by her, although she was sure it was expensive.

Checking herself out in the mirror, she gave a grin. Her dress was short - barely below her thighs, but she wore black leggings, so that she wasn't 'too revealing'. If it had been up to her, she wouldn't have bothered with the protection that ended a few inches below her knee.

But that didn't matter, because she loved the dress. It was held up by three inch straps that sat just at her shoulders and loped around her neck. The red material cut straight across her chest area and her back.

Hugging her body in all the right places, she made sure each of the three black belt-like straps were fastened over her stomach region. The inside material was a dark crimson red, and there was a black lacy pattern hanging over it. It ended in a black ruffled skirt, with red rims.

The boots had been something she owned already, and they came up to a few centimetres short of where her leggings ended. On her hands she wore what looked like black wrist wraps, much like the kind people wore when they were about to go boxing, except these had slits across them, displaying the red material underneath. The rest of her arms were bare.

Attached to the bottom of her dress, right near the bottom was a long red tail, ending in a sharp point. It was long enough that it dragged on the floor as she walked.

Reaching up, she ensured that both the pigtails were tightly bound, so that they would not get in her way as she placed the final piece of her costume on - a red hair band that had two sharp points on it. Tucking the ends of the band into her hair, she gave her head a tiny shake and smirked as the red horns stayed firm and did not budge.

Letting out a deep breath, she tested her favourite - and only magical - part of her costume. She had paid a lot for this and savoured opening the fancy box it came in. Her mother had helped her contact the people needed and her father had given the money, and Madison Bishop was as happy as could be with the pair of black, translucent wings that hung from her back. They had an intricate lacy design that almost looked like many different inter wound spider webs, and were outlined by a glistening, sleek black. The parts that did not have this outline was almost see-through.

The real magic, however, was in the fact that it had been enchanted to actually work - once fused onto her back by a simple non-permanent sticking spell (that had come included in the packaging) she could control it, flapping it as she wanted. It was not strong enough to carry her up to great heights, but if she concentrated enough, she could hover a few feet above the ground for a good few seconds - ten was her record before she got too mentally strained.

Of course, she had not forgotten that it was a masquerade ball, and her mask matched her outfit perfectly. It was made from bright red metal and was cut to perfection, resembling a lace-like item that sat across her eyes and nose bridge but didn't actually hide her face. In the top right corner was a combination of a black feather and a red one, inter wound so that they created a perfect balance.

Leaving her room, she made her way to the hallway, her wand tucked into a special compartment of her dress; it, too, had been decked out, temporarily changed to a dark red and she had cut out the middle part of a three pronged stick and stuck her wand in the middle, adding effect to her costume. Now she truly was a little devil, capable of using her 'devil's stick' and doing actual magic with it. It had been a touch of genius suggested by her sister.

As she walked into the hall, she looked around, wondering what the other students were up to. Almost at once she caught sight of Finley, and a slight grin appeared as she skipped over to join him and.. whoever the heck the other witch was.

"Hello, Finley," she said cheerfully. "I wasn't expecting you here."
