| Jake was now a father.
Over the summer, he'd been blessed with a beautiful baby boy, and he had not known happiness as strong as the happiness he had felt from that day. Fear had played a big part, Ivan had been born two months early, which meant he and Veronika had had to stay in the hospital for some time. But, only early this week, Ivan had been discharged. Bringing his son home had brought Jake more happiness than anything, the worry of Ivan not leaving the hospital had been very real, but now.
He had a son.
It showed in Jake's smile as he readied the classroom - despite not having much sleep with the new baby, he was on cloud nine. Which, was probably why Jake had chosen a less serious Jinx to work on today. Allowing his students to try the Melofors Jinx was going to be amusing, and with Halloween only around the corner, Jake couldn't help but look forward to it.
The classroom was devoid of desks once more, and the board showed what they would be doing. All that was left now was for his students to arrive for the day. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Hailey sighed. Transfiguration, Astronomy, Dueling, Potions, and now DADA. Her last class. Why she had decided to take so many was beyond her. But she knew the information would become useful at some point in her life, so why not learn as much as she could now? Professor Newbury. She enjoyed him last term, and thought she could take on another class with him. She carried all of her books with her, which was quiet a fair few, and had gotten a snack in the kitchens, before making her way to the DADA classroom.
She had yet to run into Benny, which she found rather odd. She had half expected to at least see him at lunch, but that didn't happen, and quiet frankly she was beginning to worry. Not that she cared or anything, but it would've been nice to know that the poor kid wasn't lying in a ditch somewhere and needed her help.
Hailey smiled at the professor as she entered. Great. The first one. She hoped Professor Newbury didn't expect this from her for EVERY class. Hailey wasn't the punctual type, this just so happened to be a lucky day for her. She said, "Hailey Cavanaugh Professor, as she sat down all of her books on the floor. There was no place to sit, so she awkwardly stood in the middle of the room wondering what to do next. |

| Alfie was excited for the start of term. He decided to take it easy, and only take the classes he needed to take. DADA being one of the ones that he needed to become an Auror. It was an odd choice for him to decide to be an Auror, but Alfie wanted to follow in Cooper's footsteps, and if that was what Cooper wanted to be, then Alfie wanted to be that as well! Cooper had been acting rather odd all summer, and into the beginning of the term. Alfie could never find him anywhere, and Cooper always had this look on his face that Alife had never seen before.
They were brothers. And brothers should want to be together all the time. Alfie made his way to the classroom. Cooper was there already and when Alfie came in, that look came a crossed his face. Alfie went and bounced excitedly next to him. He said, "How cool is this! Defense Against the Dark Arts! Hi Professor Newbury!" Alfie couldn't help that something had changed with his brother, and he didn't like it at all. He wanted his old brother back. |

| Jacques was not overly fond of lessons. He grew tired of them quite quickly. Especially the ones with the overly nice professors. However, Defence Against the Dark Arts was interesting because they got to see the Dark Arts. Inadvertently, of course, but they still got to see them.
So, Jacques pulled himself from bed on time that morning, and moved off towards the Third Floor. He wasn't much interested in being in the room too early, so he simply arrived just before the clock struck the hour. Dropping his bag against the wall at the side of the room, Jacques leant back against the wall and folded his arms across his chest.
A non-impressed look took over his features as he waited for the professor to begin. He wasn't fond of Newbury, truth be told, despite many of his peers thinking on the contrary. He just... didn't seem like the right kind of an for this job. Jacques wasn't sure why though. ________________________________________________

| As the classroom began to fill up, Jake smiled to each of the students who entered. He knew most students by name now, with the exception of the first years of course, and made every effort to make all students feel welcomed. Even those who obviously didn't want to be here.
As the clock struck the hour, Jake cleared his throat. "Right, good morning everyone! Welcome back to another year at Hogwarts!" He greeted them happily, motioning towards the blackboard behind him. "So, today we will be looking at the Melofors Jinx - does anyone know what this is? What it does? Anything at all that is linked to the Jinx in question?"
The prompts would hopefully get the students thinking, but Jake knew that the students here were still learning, and did not expect a textbook definition of anything in his class. That, Jake thought, was the boring way of learning, and he didn't want to be a boring teacher. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| With the subject being spoken, Jacques let out a soft laugh to himself. The Melofors Jinx, really? This professor was more useless than Jacques had realised before now. Shaking his head as the professor continued, Jacques looked around the room to see if any of the imbeciles in the room would have a go at answering. But, when none did, Jacques turned back to the professor.
"The Melofors Jinx is nothing more than a stupid spell used to prank people." Jacques explained, his tone clearly showing he was not impressed with the choice of subject the professor had gone for. "If done correctly, the Jinx will turn your opponents head in to a pumpkin - you have to shatter it for the person's head to return, or simply wait for it to fall off instead. It's not the best spell for dueling, but I suppose it could buy the caster enough time to get a number of other spells in against their opponent who would be disorientated." ________________________________________________

| The answer he'd been given was not quite one that Jake had planned on receiving. But he understood that the Slytherin was never overly interested in this class, so it didn't bother him. "In an odd manner, you're correct, Jacques." Jake replied to the boy, a little more stiffly than he might have meant in that moment.
"Everyone please partner up, and try to succeed in this spell. I'll be able to put everyone's heads back to normal before you leave, so please don't panic about that." Jake insisted, waving the students off to give it a go.
"The incantation is Melofors and as always, you really need to concentrate on what you want to happen for you to be successful. Don't worry if you don't get it right the first time, that's what the classroom is for. Practice makes perfect!" Jake insisted, waiting for people to start so that he might be able to help them. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~
