| Whilst Jake had gone for a light subject with his younger students, he'd opted to stick with the syllabus for the older years. Which meant the subject was not particularly nice, but it had to be shown to the students.
At the front of the classroom sat a tank, quite large in nature. The room was filled with desks denoting that this would be a much more theoretical lesson that the usual lessons that the students had. The tank was covered by a dark sheet, not allowing anyone to see inside of it.
However, the board held the topic of the day, which would allow the students an insight in today's lesson. Jake sat atop his desk a smile on his lips despite the not so positive subject of the lesson that day. Now, he simply had to wait to find out which students would be joining him for the day's lesson. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Ever since his first lesson of the day, Potions, Aiden had been looking forward to the rest. So he was quick to gather his stuff and head towards the third floor where their DADA classroom was.
Stepping into the room, Aiden beamed when he saw Jake. "Hi Jake." The seventh year waved his hand as he moved to sit at the front of the room, his eyes instantly drawn to the tank before focusing on the board behind it.
Inferius
This was not a topic that Aiden had the pleasure of having yet so he was pretty much happy with it even if said topic was pretty dark in nature. Not that the Slytherin cared either way. They were here to learn and not make their differences on subjects of light and dark known.
Frowning, he pulled out his book and flicked towards the Inferius page to read through it. |

| Gwen still wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life, but she was sure she'd need DADA for pretty much anything she decided upon. She had pulled her hair up into a pony tail that day, her pink hair streaks showing through. Today was going to be a good day. She nodded as she made her way to the classroom.
This term was going as planned. She hadn't really made any friends, which was alright with her. She preferred to act alone, because when she decided to pull pranks, it was easier to not get caught when she was alone.
As she waltzed into the DADA room, she noticed a rather large tank. She nodded to the professor, and another boy, whom she noticed as the head boy. She rolled her eyes, as she wasn't particularly found of the boy. He was a year older but to Gwen, all male figures where boys. She took a seat in the very back of the room and tried to remain invisible. That she was particularly good at. |

| Lucy's older sister had always stressed the importance of Defence Against the Dark Arts to her. Lucy had always brushed this off as her nagging, because her sister had gone into a career depending on such knowledge. But she knew that it was a rather difficult subject to go well in, and that if she did happen to get good grades, it would look pretty awesome. So, as she was for all her subjects, she was determined to blitz it.
She walked into the classroom, taking notice of the subject on the board, and the peculiar object under the sheet at the front of the room, and her stomach seemed to churn just a little bit. She gave a nod to Professor Newbury and found an empty seat towards the back of the classroom, not inclined in the slightest to go any closer towards the front. To be honest to herself, while she still feigned a confident air about herself, the topic made her uneasy. |

| The first thing that caught Violet's eye was the thing at the front of the room, that she could not yet discern, as it was covered by a sheet. The second, was the writing on the board that showed the topic being covered in the day's lesson. Inferius. And her face lit up ever so slightly. There was a spark of interest in her eyes that normally had a dull expression, and her lips curved into a small smile. This would most certainly be an interesting lesson.
She walked to an empty seat, to the front of the room, as opposed to taking one of the back seats as she was usually inclined and fixed her eyes on what she could only imagine would be an actual inferi.
There was something about the dark arts that seemed rather enticing to Violet. Learning about it gave her a rush that nothing else seemed to be able to do. She knew that in this lesson, they wouldn't learn how to actually create one, but she figured it'd be good to learn to defend herself against them. Besides, there were other, unscrupulous ways of learning of their creation if she so desired, she'd just have to do it in her own free time. |

| Hurrying down the halls, Finley caught hold of the door to Defence Against the Dark Arts after a girl - he thought she was in his year, but honestly couldn't remember. Following her in to the room, Finley was glad that there were desks in Professor Newbury's classroom. It meant that there most likely wouldn't be a practical aspect to the lesson, and for that much he was grateful.
Moving to the middle of the room, Finley took up a seat and pulled out his book, together with a notepad. He was quite anxious this year because he'd been split up from Naomi and Madison. They were still in their fourth year, which meant they were classed as the younger students. Leaving him along in class with people he'd never really spoken to.
And, Finley being Finley, likely wouldn't be able to speak to easily either. |

| With the clock at the hour, Jake cleared his throat, making sure he had the attention of the students before him. "Good morning everyone." Jake greeted them as a whole, a warm smile on his features as he looked around. He was currently sat on top of his desk, relatively relaxed in all manners possible.
"Now, for those of you who've looked at the board, you'll already have an idea of today's lesson, and most likely you'll have worked out what is in the tank." Jake explained, leaning over, he pulled the cover away. The tank was sealed, and there was no way anyone was going to get hurt today. "An Inferius."
There was no need to motion towards the tank, all the students would be able to see the creature inside, and it's horrible look. Thankfully, Jake had never encountered one of these in his line of work, but he knew how to defeat them well enough.
"Not very nice, are they?" Jake asked the class rhetorically, taking in the mixture of expressions. "Does anyone know how one of these comes in to being? Or... anything of note about the Inferi that would be interesting? How would you go about defeating them? There isn't a definitive answer, this is more a time to muse about what you would do if you were faced with one of these." ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| The moment the cover came of the tank, Aiden flinched and looked away from the disgusting creature. It looked even worse in real life then in the book and he was thankful that the tank was sealed and that the creature couldn't get out. He was quite sure it -because he really had no idea if it was a she or a he- would attack any of them within a moments notice.
Hearing Jake's question, Aiden stared blankly at the Inferius before speaking in a detached voice.
"An Inferius is a dead body that has been reanimated by a necromancer." His voice was cold and he really didn't dare to look around to see how people reacted to it. "The Inferni have no free will what so ever and thus they cannot think for themselves. Instead they are pretty much puppets that serve a Dark Witch or Wizard to do their bidding. The easiest way to kill an Inferius is to use fire on them. Preferably Fiendfyre as it's the strongest and hottest fire known to wizard kind. It's known by everyone that knows their history that The Dark Lord had used an army of them to do his bidding." Aiden spoke about much more then was expected but when faced with such a thing, it was easier to speak your mind really.
"...If I was faced with one of these I would set fire to it and then apparate the hell away from them and hope that it was killed in the fire." |

| Finally, the time came and Jake started to talk. And once the cover was pulled away, Violet's eyes lit up. Yes, it was an utterly disgusting creature that barely resembled the human it used to be. It was gaunt, skeletal, with hollowed eyes. The Slytherin boy started talking, about what they are, all things Violet already knew, so she didn't really pay that much attention, but instead, imagined the pure power she'd have if she ever managed to create one.
The last part of what the boy said bought her back to the lesson, and she decided to add to his answer.
"They're strong… And they don't feel pain. Really they're quite powerful. Voldemort was rather smart to make an army of them. Just immensely strong puppets, completely loyal to my-" she corrected herself "-one's own will. And I suppose if you get all the spells right, you could manipulate it so they avoid fire. Pair them with anti-apparition charms…" she stopped herself from saying anymore. |

| Jake's attention moved to the Head Boy as he began to speak, listening attentively to what the Slytherin had to say. Aiden had always been a good student, and therefore Jake held a lot of respect for the boy - it had been his vote that had gone towards the current Head Boy at the vote of the teachers, though only because he believed the boy to be capable.
"Correct! Take five points for Slytherin." Jake replied when a small pause was given by the Head Boy, his lips turning upwards in to a smile.
A small laugh left Jake's lips when Aiden explained how he would deal with an Inferius. "I can't say I blame you." Jake told the boy, showing that the answer was not in any way wrong of the boy to have said. "Getting away from an Inferi is probably one of the best things you could do, because in all likelihood, there isn't going to be only one of them about."
As Violet spoke up, Jake nodded along. "Very true, very true! I'm not sure about avoiding fire... perhaps fireproof? Or perhaps, an environment... of water?" Jake proposed. "The anti-apparition wards would stop people, such as Aiden, from making a clever escape, too." Jake added, not trying to belittle the Slytherin, but simply create discussion points.
"Now, for the rest of the lesson - I want you to create a scenario that you believe that the use of Inferi would be good. I know we have just said they are quite dangerous, and to make them you'd have to be a very powerful wizard, but, lets see what ideas you can come up with. And, if you don't finish in the lesson time, I will allow you to finish it for homework. Be creative, everyone." ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~
