The comment about his mum doing something was the insult that finally got through to Max, and he stood there, dumbfounded as to why Elyah would say something like that. His mum did a lot (thank you very much!), but he knew that she was trying to be mean. Elyah didn't know how much his mum had done for the wizarding world. So, her words whilst mean, couldn't possibly hurt him in that moment.
But, she'd tried.
And that did annoy Max, but he forgave her for it.
Her answer to his question was not a very good one, either. The air was fresh here, so why would she need to go? Max once again realised that the witch was being mean. And as she turned around to go, he frowned to himself. He was neither rude, nor unpleasant, so he couldn't work her out. But, instead of coming down to that level, Max did what he'd always been told to.
Be nice.
"See you around, Elyah!" Max called after the witch, a smile spread across his lips. "It was nice to meet you!" He added, before turning his attention back to Freddo. "Now then, it's time to get you back up to the castle and find some food. Where do you think we're going to find that, hmm? Oh, and put you back in your basket in my room. Do you think you can stay there this time, Freddo? And not go off to find Elyah? She doesn't like you, no she doesn't. But, it's okay, she doesn't like me either. Maybe one day she will, but not today." He explained as he walked back up to the castle, not at all fazed by the witch's words.
But he would remember, later on.
