| Phillip loved Hogwarts so far. Sure he was a little disappointed he wasn't a Ravenclaw like his dad, but in complete honesty he was more brawn than he was brain. It stung a little because of how deep Phil's admiration for his father went, but nevertheless he was sure that being in Gryffindor could only improve his strong characteristics. His dad didn't seem too disappointed that he was in Gryffindor; in fact, dad wasn't disappointed at all.
The sorting process was unexpected; not unpleasant but strange. That was the word. The hat was an ugly, terrifying patchwork thing that if Phil cares for books more than sports or running about he would have known was rather terrifying. Instead the first thing that went through his head when the hat was on his head was: "Gee for an ugly hat you sure are old too." There was a persnickety response but a short attention span had deleted that memory from Phil's brain. At the moment, he was trying to escape the hefty homework he had and sneakily wandering about Hogwarts. As he neared the Forbidden Forest, he slunk behind some trees before slipping in completely; the crunch of leaves and branches beneath his feet comforting. It reminded him of younger years, younger than eleven, but still far further back. He remembers the green of leaves and a head of curly hair. He winced as he came to an abrupt halt.
In his Hogwarts daze, and being sorted separately, Phil had bypassed talking to his best friend completely. He hoped Corie wasn't too mad; surely he could persuade her otherwise? Well maybe not, he wasn't the best with words after all. Maybe he could use his allowance to persuade an older kid to buy her something nice during a "Hogsmeade Weekend" yeah, that could work! She'd like that, maybe. Phillip was good at making friends but not so much at reading or understanding them, he sighed and sunk against the trunk of a nearby tree, lost in thought about his best friend. |

| Of course she was mad. In fact, she was downright livid! The past few weeks and month had not been going good. So far, she had gotten two detentions (for what, she honestly didn't know) and it seemed her best friend was ignoring her. To say Corienna was not in a good mood would be like saying the universe was 'fairly large': i.e, a huge understatement.
There was no denying that homework was not something she wanted to do, not at this point of time. Wearing her outfit of the day, which always included her favourite pink hoodie jacket, she skipped down to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, making sure nobody could see her as she slipped inside. The quiet and still of the place was slightly eerie at times, but she had grown to love it, for it reminded her of her old home before the move, and was comforting in a way.
It was a nice afternoon, and the weather was not too cold, nor was it too hot. Perfectly comfortable without the need of her jacket, it was instead tied around her waist as she skipped further down the path into the forest, letting the darkness surround her. A few minutes later, she saw a shadow leaning against the tree and stopped, frowning. This was her place of solidarity, how dare anyone else intrude!
But as she got nearer, she realized it was only Phillip, the one person she didn't mind sharing with... Except for today. She was still mad at him for ignoring her, which meant that she was not exactly going to go cuddling up to him. At the same time, however, she missed him. How could she not? He was her best friend despite it all, and so, still at war with herself, Corien approached the figure and gave him a gentle kick in his side. "Get up and say hello to your best friend. Don't be so rude," she said, crossing her arms and giving Phil a half-grin. |

| Now that Phillip knew what he was going to do to get forgiveness back from Corie, he just had to find a way to execute the plan to perfection. Not that he didn't enjoy it about Corienna, but sometimes he wished she was just a simple girl who he could a flower and a cupcake too and she'd swoon and forgive him immediately with open arms. Then again, if she were an easily swayed girl their friendship would mean as much as dirt to him. The way she was now he was just fine with. With that in mind he started to consider what to buy Corie; a new broom would be too much, he couldn't recall if she liked chocolate just as much as he did, nor could he remember if she liked reading. So far he was proving to be a terrible best friend. He cringed at the thought.
"Ow!" Phil exclaimed at the sharp pain in his side, just as he was ready to tell the person off, anger on his face, he realized who it was and grinned instead as he jumped up. "Corie! I haven't seen you in decades!" His grin turned sheepish and he rubbed the back of his neck, where the nape of his floopy hair was. "Of course not cos I didn't want to it, it was school and stuff, you know how I love books." Alright that was a lie and she'd probably see right through it, but there was always that small chance she might not. He dragged his eyes from the forest floor to Corie's face, and blinked in surprise.
"Have you always been so short?" Phil barked in surprise, putting a hand on top of her head and bringing it towards him to the stark shock that she barely reached his shoulders. |

| Crossing her arms as he got to his feet, she raised an eyebrow. "And whose fault is that?" she asked casually, no hint of annoyance in her tone. She was very sure he would be able to pick up the fact that she wasn't happy, despite her calmness. Yes, Phillip was indeed her best friend, and the only one she allowed to call her 'Corie', but he had literally ignored her for the better part of a month, and she had every right to be angry.
His next statement made her chuckle just a little, but she swallowed down the laughter, coughing a few times instead. The last thing she wanted was to give him any indication that she was softening. So, keeping her eyebrow raised, she questioned, "What books have you been reading then?" certain that he had been lying. Phil had always been an open book to her, and her, him - which was ironic because she didn't like reading all that much.
Glaring at him, her smile disappearing in that second, she aimed a kick at his leg, just making contact. "Have you always been so rude?!" she shot back, eyes as cold as they could be - and she was very good at making them cold. "If all you're gonna do is insult me, please don't feel offended if I leave," she added, turning around curtly. She didn't actually plan on leaving, because deep down she did love her best friend (as her best friend, of course, and nothing more). Corien did, however, know that more than likely, this would get a reaction in him, and if there was one thing the Slytherin knew to do it was play her bestie's buttons. |

| Sometimes growing up with your best friend was great, because hey they knew everything about you. Other times it was not. Phil smiled beningly at her, knowing that her impassiveness was really her way of showing she cared. Which was hilarious because most people found that to be the exact opposite of a way to act, yet it was totally Corie.
"Aw you know I missed you Oreo," he opened his arms for a hug, shifting his arms close to his body to indicate where she was supposed to go. His smile turned sheepish. "Unless of course, as a Slytherin you're too good for my hugs now." The best way to prompt Corie into action was to sometimes rile her. However, riling Corie often took tact because too mean she would kick him and too docile meant she would get too irritated by his need for attention and spurn him completely.
That was another thing, Corienna just knew he wasn't as into reading as she was. He'd do it if he liked it, but he was a boy who lived off his whims and what didn't fascinate him bored him and what bored him he disliked immediately.
"Oh you know, the standard, common curriculum," he laughed uneasily as he shrugged as if there was no better answer. He winced as she kicked him, but at this point in their lives he had almost developed shins of steal. However, he definitely wouldn't be wearing shorts any time soon. Bruises weren't a pretty thing.
"Okay, okay, sorry- jeez," he lifted his leg and rubbed his shin while pouting at her, "anyone ever tell you have feet of steel? Seriously do you pack lead in there or something?" His voice was incredulous as he hoppled towards her, "I'm sorry Corie! I didn't mean it and it's not a bad thing, you're still you. Short people are great and they're so cute, have you seen smurfs? You know how cute they are." |
