| Having heard from Victoria that Jake was taking care of two young children all on his own, without any other help, got Adaline thinking. She had said nothing to her best friend but in the back of her head, Adaline had been making plans to go down and help Jake with the kids for at least a while.
She knew how hard it could be, she was in that spot herself, but for the first few months she had literally been run ragged by her two rascals and she didn't doubt that Jake was any better. A man would have more trouble than a woman purely because they weren't used to taking care of so many children at once.
Thus, merely days after her meeting with Victoria, Adaline had decided to go over and help Jake a little bit. She knew how much the male loved his kids but at the same time the man also loved his job and doing both was, no doubt, taking a toll on him. Waving her wand she packed a handful of changes of clothes for herself and her two children before she took them and apparated away to the Newbury house where she knew Jake lived.
Setting her children down, she grabbed each of their hands, knocked on the door and waited patiently for someone to open it. She wouldn't barge in unannounced after all, it wouldn't do so for her to do that; more likely than not Jake would hex her before asking questions or even realizing who she was. |

| Jake's life was hectic. Two jobs, two children, and trying to find time for his family, and himself was exhausting work. Not that he was completely alone in that, but he had not realised just how much Veronika did. The cooking, the cleaning, ferrying the children around to their little play dates, doing the shopping, getting them to bed on time.
It was exhausting.
He was thankful for his parents now living closer, and, of course, Victoria who stopped by every evening to help with the bed time routine. But, that didn't make it easier, really. Dealing with Ivan's questions had not grown easier -- when you had no answer, what in Merlin's name were you supposed to say?
And, though Adrienne was only two, she was starting to form her sentences. She didn't have Ivan's understanding, but she had learned to echo some of his words. The nights where he had to listen to not one child, but two saying 'mommy' were amongst the worst, but Jake had to deal with it, and he was doing his best.
It was mid afternoon, Jake had just settled both children down playing with their toys, and had an unexpected moment to himself when the door bell rang. Picking up the baby monitor in his right hand and his wand in his left, Jake moved to the front door of the house and checked through the peep hole to see who it was. Frowning slightly, Jake opened the door to see Adaline Harris. Victoria's friend.
"Hi..." Jake said uncertainly when the door was open, his hand slipping his wand in to his jeans as he relaxed slightly. "Victoria isn't hear at the moment..." He explained, not sure why Adaline would show up here if Victoria wasn't here... ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Adaline waited, listening to her children chattering away with one ear while the other was on the look out for any surprises that may await them; she didn't have to wait long though as soon enough the door to the Newbury estate opened up and a haggard looking Jake Newbury appeared in the doorway.
"I know she isn't," Adaline replied to that, eyeing the baby-monitor in Jake's hand. "I came to give you a hand with the little rascals you call kids. You look exhausted Jake." The woman stated plainly as she stared at the man who had, once, been her professor at the school. Of course, she had known Jake privately as well, being Victoria's best friend meant that Adaline had first-hand knowledge of the man whom she called a big brother.
"May I come in?" She questioned, fondly rolling her eyes at the insistent tugging on her hands.
"Mama, mama!" Silas' voice was eager as the young boy looked up at his mother, Eliza's soft voice echoing her brother's eager words of 'mama, mama'. "Have we come to see Ivan and Ad...rianne?" The child stumbled over the little girl's name and Adaline couldn't help but chuckle softly.
"It's Adrienne, Silas darlin'." She corrected him lightly. "And if Jake let's us in then yes, you may play with them." |

| OOC: Sorry this is late!
Upon hearing that Adaline was not here to see Victoria, Jake's brow creased slightly in confusion. He didn't particularly understand for the simple fact that he could not comprehend that someone outside of the family would want to come here to visit him. He didn't exactly have a lot to offer. The house wasn't completely tidy, the kids were, obviously, being kids, and his social life was nothing to talk about.
And yet, here Adaline stood before him saying she wasn't here for his sister.
The comment that she was here to help, quite clearly threw Jake, and he stumbled over a couple of syllables before giving up on trying to respond to that. Too shocked to really formulate something in the first place.
The question of coming in made Jake move aside, opening the door to admit Adaline and her children. "Sorry, where are my manners, please, come in. Can I get you a drink? Tea, coffee? Anything?" Jake asked, closing the door behind Adaline and her children. "Have you eaten, I can get you something if you need anything?" He added politely, mostly moving on auto-pilot through the pleasantries, his mother's teachings kicking in without having to think about it for even a moment.
"Ivan and Adrienne are in the lounge, Silas, you head on along!" Jake encouraged the child with a warm smile. "Come on through." Jake added to Adaline with a small smile, heading through to the lounge where the four children had amalgamated to play.
"I'm sorry, the house isn't particularly tidy at the moment. It's a very difficult game, juggling everything all at once. But... I'm getting there..." Jake told her sheepishly, picking up a sofa cushion from the floor and putting it back tidy. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Adaline could see the clear surprise on Jake's face when she had revealed that she was not there to see Victoria; she couldn't help but frown in annoyance at that. Did no-one really come just to see Jake or even talk to him? It was a child rearing life, she conceded to that, but at the same time she couldn't help but curse Jake's friends for not even bothering to stop by for even a few minutes just to say hello.
"Understandable, I did come without any prior warning after all," Adaline told him lightly, an eyebrow arched at the clear way that he was just stumbling over what he was saying. "Just a glass of water will be fine and some snacks for the kids will be appreciated." She responded to his question, should she have refused she knew it would've seemed as rude and she didn't want that.
"Run along then kids." Adaline pushed her two toddlers and the two children ran off the lounge with squeals, their loud chatter quickly assaulting Adaline's ears the moment her two children got with Jake's two. Following her former Professor, Adaline casually looked around the house, making mental notes of what type of trouble Jake was in. Veronika was really stupid for leaving Jake at such an early period with the children.
"I do have two children at home as well, no need to apologize," Adaline reassured the sheepish man with a soft laugh as she bent down to pick up some of the toys that were strewn about the floor before depositing them where the children were. "I know, I've been there when Kai... died." She said tightly before smiling softly. "It does get easier but at the same time it gets harder because you put your whole life on stop for the little rascals." |

| Nodding at the request from Adaline, Jake motioned for her to follow him through to the open plan kitchen/dining room/playroom that had been made in the house. The kids were happy to see each other, and were quickly playing their own games, something that made Jake smile fondly. As long as his kids were happy... there was nothing else in the world he could ask for.
Getting Adaline the water she'd asked for, Jake put it on the table before attending to her second request. Getting some of the teddy shaped crisps from the cupboard, Jake put them in some small plastic bowls and took them over to the four children, softly explaining that they had to share them. Ivan nodded his assent, checking that Adrienne was okay with her own teddy crisps as he ate his. They would likely make a mess, of themselves, or the house, but that was the joy of children.
Returning to the table, Jake sat down and motioned for Adaline to do the same.
Jake gave a somewhat more relaxed smile as Adaline said that it was okay. He was doing his best, given the circumstances. "It is hard, but, the kids are happy, so... that's all that matters." Jake replied to the witch, and he meant it. Yes, people would say his own happiness was important, but Jake couldn't be selfish on this matter. He'd never been selfish.
"So... umm..." Jake said awkwardly, trying to decide how to move the conversation forward. "When do yours start school? Ivan is starting in September. It's scary!" Jake explained, letting out a small laugh. Where had the last four and bit years gone? ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Eyeing the male across from her, Adaline sipped on her water as she listened with one ear to her children and Jake's children; all four were clearly enjoying themselves so she left them to it and instead turned her full attention to the single father who clearly looked tired. She recognized that look, it was a look that she had worn herself when she had started looking after her two on her own.
Tapping her manicured fingers on the table, she looked around the kitchen/dining room/playroom, her eyes taking in everything that was in the room. It was clearly made with the purpose to see the children and so that the parents could keep an eye on them when he, or she, was in the kitchen cooking up dinner. Chuckling softly as she watched the four children eat their crisps, she turned to Jake when he finally sat down, a smile appearing on her own lips at the one he gave her. "It's what always matters to us, parents... Our children and how happy they are." She always said that to her own friends when they questioned her and she never changed her words.
"Silas is starting in September as well, Eliza has one more year to go but I'm thinking of sending her to pre-school for a few hours a day to get her more involved with kids her own age." Adaline had been hard-pressed into sending Silas to school purely because the child had been throwing tantrums all summer until Adaline informed her son that he would have children his own age to play with and not just Eliza. "It always will be Jake." She told him softly as she fondly looked to the side at their children. "But it's part of growing up for them." |

| The fact Adaline didn't tell him off for saying that the kids were more important at the moment than himself was a welcome relief. He was quite sure she understood him when he said as much, but he'd been a little bit worried that she might admonish him for such ideas.
Hearing that Silas would be starting his own school in September too brought a smile to Jake's lips. At least Ivan and Silas would head to Hogwarts at the same time. He could count on one kid being friendly with Ivan already, which made that distant prospect so much more bearable, even if it was six years away. "Pre-school doesn't sound like a bad idea, but Adrienne is still a little bit too young for that just yet." Jake replied, smiling over at his daughter.
"I'm sure Eliza will enjoy it, though. Getting to hang around with children her own age will do her good." Jake added, remembering that they had been speaking of Eliza, not Adrienne. Giving a small, sheepish smile for that mistake, Jake sipped his drink carefully, before moving the conversation along.
"How's work going for you?" Jake asked, because he knew both Adaline and Victoria had worked so hard through university. "Have you decided which route you're going to go down? I know Victoria is still undecided at the moment, but she keeps telling me about the different routes -- I'm honestly not one hundred percent sure what all the different routes are, I just know there are a number." Jake explained, admitting he didn't fully understand so that Adaline might take it a little bit easier on him in that moment. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Adaline would've been pretty much a hypocrite if she had called out on Jake putting his kids before himself; she did it herself and more often than not people criticized her for it, saying that her own happiness should be just as important. To Adaline though, her children's happiness was just like her own happiness. Seeing them happy and content made her happy and content and she would do anything in her power to keep it like that.
She knew that with Ivan being the same as Silas, their two children would be in the same year but knowing that Ivan was attending school come September made Adaline breath a bit easier; at least he'd have one kid to play with should it come to him not being able to befriend anyone but she didn't believe that one bit, her son was quite a sociable person and made friends with anyone.
"I didn't want to send Eliza to pre-school but I hate leaving her with nannies or my siblings or Kai's parents all the time. I hate being in their debt." She shrugged her shoulders, a soft smile on her lips. "It will do Adrienne good as well when she goes."
"I'm both a Magical and Muggle Lawyer," Adaline replied to the question, sipping on her water. "Though I have plans to start my own Lawyer Firm, for both Muggles and Magical's." It would, at least, give her the chance to be able to take cases that didn't overlap each other's dates. |

| "Oh, I definitely understand that. My parents, well, my mom, is so intent on seeing them, she always tries to take them off my hands. But, I feel really guilty when she does, even when I'm exhausted, because... they're my kids..." Jake explained, quite sure that Adaline would understand that. "But, with school, at least I can feel a little less guilty. In a couple of years, or so." He said with a small smile.
The information that Adaline was planning to create her own firm made Jake raise an eyebrow. That would be a big leap, and Merlin knew with the kids, she would be run off of her feet, but if that was what Adaline believed she wanted to do, Jake was happy for her. "That sounds great. I think Victoria is still a little bit stuck on her specialisation, but, I told her there was no rush. She's still very young, she has plenty of time." Jake explained, a fond smile on his lips as he spoke of his little sister.
A small silence fell over them, Jake trying to think of some things to discuss, but not really sure where to start. It was difficult, to find things aside from his children to talk about. Or his work. They were his life, one or the other, and he didn't wish to bore the witch before him, so he plunged for something else.
"Do you follow the Quidditch at all?" Jake asked, because that was one thing, in his busy schedule, that Jake would always find time to read up on. Quidditch had been his life before being an Auror, and he would never let it go, no matter what might come along. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~
