| Michelle found herself all the way in France for one simple reason, she had heard rumours that one of the books she was looking for was currently being sold in France thus she had packed her bags, applied for a holiday from her work place and apparated to France where she would spend the coming month looking for the book and hoping to Merlin and Morgana that this time the rumor was true.
She had spent the last two years looking for the book and by Merlin, she hoped that she finally found it. It wasn't a book that she would've been able to get in England, seeing as selling any books that had to do with the Dark and Black Arts was long forbidden, thus she was forced to look into other countries, hoping that one of them finally had the book she was looking for.
Slipping through the crowds in France, the twenty-four-year-old woman made her way towards one of the many inns scattered around the place. Booking a penthouse for the month, Michelle deposited her bags there before making her way back out. For now, she would just enjoy the sceneries before she went hunting for the book. Who knows where it could be.
Smiling as the summer heat beat down on her, Michelle walked through the streets, enjoying the fresh air and breeze that flowed through the streets. |

| Mimosa's birthday had been, in her own words, AWESOME!!!!
The child and a dozen of her select friends had been given the full run of Disneyland with minimal adult supervision, all the snacks in the park available freely and special safety features installed in rides they were rightly too young to go on. As a result, the girl had been on a sugar high all day, running, squealing and (where applicable) splashing from nine in the morning to well after six in the evening. Special train cars had been employed to take the guests to each part of the park as covering the whole area on foot would have been impossible in a day, so the children got to enjoy the added fun of speeding along at eighty miles an hour through the entire park in addition to all the other treats.
By the end of the day, the little girl had been so exhausted, she'd fallen asleep on the way home, only to be carried to bed by her godmother in a completely unconscious state. Mimosa had slept for ten hours to recuperate but when she'd woken there, there was ongoing excitement of seeing the pictures, opening presents, writing thank you notes and reliving the party over and over again.
But now over a week had passed and the excitement was finally coming to a close as Mimosa readied herself for her annual trip to France. Not a working trip no, every summer Mimosa went to visit Grandmere in Versailles and though the visit was its own brand of exciting, the child knew she always had to be on her best behavior in the two weeks she spent at the palace.
The nine year old hadn't understood what a "ward" was when she'd first been told she was one, and she didn't understand it three years later but Mimosa figured it meant you could stay at the palace with Gramdmere and Grandpere and have fancy parties and speak like grow ups.
Because running and squealing were definitely not allowed at the palace. Not that she had ever been told so, but one look from her Grandmaman and it was obvious enough. What was allowed however, was going out with the nanny, a nice old lady who made sure Mimosa was changed for every meal and took her walks and picnics regularly.
Today, the nanny had been allowed to take Mimosa out into the town for a bit of shopping, at least that's what the woman had insisted as she'd steered the child out into the palace grounds and into the waiting car. Why they were going out, Mimosa wasn't sure but if the nanny said it was okay, Grandmere and Grandpere probably knew.
The car dropped them off downtown, by a busy street dotted with cafes and stores Mmosa had not seen before. Her blue eyes widening as she took in the surroundings, the people, the giant advertisements flashing from billboards. It seemed this area was as busy as New York, just cleaner and... people didn't shout as much. She wondered why this was as the nanny gently guided her down the street to a hat store she said she had to visit.
The young witch was no fan of hats, and she made it known by screwing up her nose in distaste, something she definitely wasn't allowed to do at the palace. Sadly, arguing with Nanny wasn't an option. Sneaking away from her as she tried on hats though, was.
The young brunette saw her chance the moment her caretaker was busy, making her way to the side door of the shop and opening the door a crack, sure someone would notice her. When no one did, the girl made a run for it, only to bump into another someone not even three feet out the door.
"Ouch," the child winced, her body protesting upon impact even if it wasn't a particularly hard one. There would be slight bruising, she imagined. Hopefully Nanny wouldn't tell.
"I'm sorry," she murmured, looking up at the lady she'd bumped into. "I didn't see you, oh and don't speak French either." The little witch concluded it was best to get that out of the way first, in case the lady began yelling at her in a language Mimosa did not understand. It was always better to be yelled at with words one could reply to. ________________________________________________

| Michelle blinked her eyes when she felt a soft body colliding with hers, making her stumble several steps back but thankfully she stayed on her own feet, grateful for the ballet flats she was wearing; had she been wearing heels she had no doubt that she would be on her ass and no matter how many times guys said that girls have no problem walking on heels, it was further from the truth, they just didn't show the problems when they showed.
Looking down at the brunette child, she tilted her head to the side as she listened to the girl pretty much babble, an amused chuckle bubbling up her throat and out of her lips, her laugh quiet as she placed a hand on the child's shoulder. "I should be apologizing to you, I didn't move away quickly enough to stop the collision."
But maybe it was for the better, she thought silently as she looked behind herself, eyeing the open road. Had she moved there was a possibility that the child would've ended up in the path of a car and gotten injured if not killed.
"Now, why don't we move a bit further along so we're not standing in the middle of the road, hmm?" She peered down at the girl, a perfectly sculpted brow arching; the instruction of moving was clearly worded like a question so the girl wouldn't bolt once again.
"Are you okay? Injured at all?" She checked the girl over with a critical eye, cataloguing how the girl looked; clearly, this was a girl who was of high birth considering how she looked and held herself.
Not to mention, she's magical. Michelle thought to herself as she lightly skimmed the girls surface thoughts. This was going to be trouble, she just knew it. But what trouble would have to be seen.

| The first thing Mimosa noticed about the person she'd bumped into... was that she was really pretty. Not in the Clara or Victoria way, no, this stranger was pretty in a fierce way. And Mimosa found herself quite liking that look. She wondered how someone got to look like that. She also wondered if it would be rude to ask.
As the woman apologized, the child shook her head, long brown hair swinging over her shoulder in her haste to set the pretty stranger straight. "Oh no, I was running. I'm here with Nanny Dupree but she's trying on hats," the child's perfectly symmetrical face wrinkled up in distaste, indicating her dislike for hats.
"I just wanted to do something interesting, this is my first time out in the town. So I waited until she was busy and... ran." Mimosa may not have been the most well behaved child in the world but she had always been honest, simply never having reason to tell a lie yet.
Following the stranger's lead, the little witch moved with her to the side of the road so they wouldn't be in the way. When asked if she was hurt, Mimosa considered the question for a few seconds. "Not too badly I think, just some light bruising, I think that's normal. And grandmere might not know so its okay." Blu eyes looked over the woman because it occurred to the child to ask the same question in return.
"Oh, are you okay?" she asked, hoping she hadn't hrut the stranger. this lady seemed nice, not at all like someone who'd enjoy trying on hats.
"I'm Mimosa," she added, extending a hand politely to the adult. "Mim-oh-sah, like the flower, not the drink." ________________________________________________

| Watching the child, Michelle mentally facepalmed at the girl's words. She just knew that there would be trouble all around when the Nanny was to find Mimosa missing however she couldn't help but smile lightly at how quickly the brown-haired child was able to sneak away from the woman. Something told her that Mimosa probably did that more times than she should.
"You are a child are you not?" Michelle questioned with an arched brow, her arms crossed over her chest as she looked down at the girl with a frown on her lips. "What would you have done if someone tried to kidnap you? France may look all calm but it is known for the notorious kidnappings of children you know." She didn't want to scare the girl but she knew that the young witch needed to know of the dangers that she would face running off from her Nanny. Thankfully she hadn't gotten too far before bumping into her.
Shaking her head in disbelief, Michelle pulled out her wand and with a flourish, she swished it over the young child, silently healing the bruises and pain the child probably felt but didn't recognize. "Just because it's some light bruising doesn't mean that you can just run around like that. Some of those bruises may not be as light as you think."
At the question from Mimosa, Michelle nodded her head. "I'm fine, I'm a bit more durable than a young girl." She smiled lightly as she slipped her wand back into her wrist holster. "I'm Michelle." She took the hand and shook it lightly; she had known Mimosa's name from skimming through her thoughts but as she didn't want to frighten the child she didn't say it. |

| When the stranger called her a child, Mimosa felt the red creep up her face. She was nine now, almost all grown up! Half consciously, the little witch rose to her tiptoes to stand a little taller than she did before, just so she wouldn't be called a child again. But when the lady continued with stories of child kidnapping, Mimosa's blue eyes grew large, her face and features arranging themselves in clear fascination.
"Really? i never knew that. No one ever tells me anything interesting." To think she had been told a million things from what she could wear at the palace to how she was supposed to greet different levels of guests (some were to be curtsied to, others to be shaken by the hand and yet others to just be ignored) yet no one had bothered to inform her she was in a country famous for kidnapping.
"Have you ever kidnapped anyone?" she asked, her curiosity getting the best of her, to the extent where the child hardly realized how personal the question was. "Or seen anyone being kidnapped? Oh! Have you ever been kidnapped?" This was a whole new ball game for Mimosa and she wanted to know everything about it. "I'm from America, I think we're just famous for beer, and the Superbowl! We win it every single year, you know!"
Regardless of the woman's response, Mimosa was pretty certain she wasn't about to be kidnapped. Those people didn't warm you. And even if the child didn't have her phone, she had a healthy set of lungs which would not go amiss if she started using them.
Besides, the woman waved a wand and suddenly, Mimosa felt a lot better, like she'd just been to the doctor's. kidnappers didn't do that, she was pretty sure anyway. "Thank you," she managed. "And I wish I was more durable. I get hurt all the time and it worries everyone." This bit of information was supplied with a downcast look. Even at nine, Mimosa knew how her injuries affected the adults around her.
"Well hello there Michelle," the child spike upon finally having a name. "Do you like hats?" This would b an important question if they were to be friends, one that would determine their relationship from here onwards. ________________________________________________

| Michelle wanted to chuckle softly at how Mimosa was acting, she could tell that the girl felt insulted when she had called her a child but compared to Michelle she was a child thus she wasn't going to apologize for it. As she carried on with her story-telling of kidnappings and other things like that, she knew she had Mimosa's attention purely because she could see the way Mimosa's entire face changed from indignation to fascination.
"Not everyone knows... Or well, they know but they pretend it isn't happening. Not everyone will tell you stuff like that purely because you are a child. They think that not telling you makes it much better but in truth, it just makes it worse, especially when a child is kidnapped and the parent or guardian realizes that they should've told them about being careful and kidnappings."
Her eyes lit up with amusement at the curious and innocent question from the small child, her head automatically shaking in the negative to it. "I haven't but even if I did I wouldn't have told you. I would've just kidnapped you and got away with you without anyone noticing." She wasn't serious but to a child it might sound serious, especially considering the tone of voice she was using and how serious her face looked. "I haven't been kidnapped and I haven't seen anyone kidnapped but I have heard a lot about kidnappings."
"I know that they do and I kinda gathered you were from America from your slight accent." The girl didn't have a pronounced accent but to Michelle who was pretty much used to hearing a lot of accents, hearing the American one with the girl's words was easy.
"You're welcome." She smiled before patting Mimosa's head lightly. "Don't worry as you grow up you will become more durable. As a child, you are more prone to getting hurt and injured but that's normal, believe me, I was the same way." She smirked lightly.
"Do I like hats?" The question took her off-guard but an amused smile appeared on her lips nonetheless. "I prefer to have my head bare of any stuff like that." She winked at the young child. |

| The idea of not telling Mimosa something to keep her safe wasn't easily understood by the child. Michelle was right, how could keeping someone in the dark make them safer? The dark was scary and more things went bump in it than they did when it was light. So far, this pretty lady was making more sense than most adults Mimosa knew.
'Well, I prefer to stay informed," the nine year old spoke, affecting a tone of someone much older than her. She wished she could speak like her Elenore, Elenore was always taken seriously and would never be called a child. "But I don't think anyone in France would try to kidnap me, I think they all love my Grandpere and Grandmere too much," she added innocently. After all, everything she was out with either or both of them, so many people cheered and waved.
The simple assurance that this lady didn't want to kidnap, and that she had never been in nor conducted a kidnapping was enough for Mimosa, the child never having once suspected that the older witch could be lying. People didn't lie in her world.
"When will I grow up though?" the brunette asked earnestly, looking up at Michelle with big blue eyes that seem to question the universe at every step. "Everyone says I'll grow up but no one tells me when that is. I'm already nine, I'm old enough to know wouldn't you think?"
Michelle's denouncement of hats confirmed it, she was now a fast friend. And friends should know where other friends lived. Michelle already knew Mimosa was from America but the little girl had no idea where her new friend was from. "Do you live here in France? Is that how you know about the kidnappings?" ________________________________________________

| Michelle watched Mimosa with an amused look in her eyes as the young child almost pouted and sulked at the unfairness of the world. It's not like she could blame Mimosa; had it not been for her father and eldest brother she would've been just as ignorant and naive about the world as the brunette.
"Not every information is for a child's ears. There is a reason why most adults tend to not speak of serious topics with children. They're too dark, too scary for most children." The woman spoke softly, almost as if she wasn't speaking to Mimosa but someone else entirely. The French which was in her own memories, memories from many years ago when her father sat her down and seriously spoke to her about the dangers of the world, dangers of being a part of a Pureblood family even if she, herself, was not a pureblood, she still had enough of it to actually be counted as a Pureblood.
"Not everyone loves your Grandpere and Grandmere." Michelle's voice was soft, cautious as she spoke to the girl, her eyes flicking up when she felt someone approach them, her eyes narrowing upon the man who flinched back and quickly backed away, his thoughts clearly giving him away on what he wanted to do. With disgust, she silently snarled at him and waited for him to be gone before she looked back down at Mimosa, a smile on her face. "There are a lot of people who... hate them and just a little less who would do harm to their reputation." She steered the young girl away from the alley they were in towards one of the many cafes scattered.
"You've got a few more years to grow up Mimosa." She answered the question. "You are not yet old enough, let me tell you a secret. When you grow up you'll wish that you were a kid still."
"I lived here," Michelle answered. "The Roux family is a French Pureblood family and I lived here until I was eighteen. After that, I ran as far from my mother as I could." |

| The child merely frowned at Michelle's explanation for why adults kept things. It still felt wrong to the little girl. Michelle didn't keep things from her and that made her a good adult in Mimosa's books. Thanks to Michelle, the child would now always be on guard for kidnappers, making sure to ask anyone who spoke to her if they intended to kidnap her before she offered a hand in friendship.
the notion of someone not liking her grandparents was once again, a new revelation, but one that was easily explained. The only people Mimosa could think of who wouldn't love Grandmere and Grandpere were of course people who didn't know them. "You should come home with me," the nine year ol suggested confidently. "You can met them and decide for yourself." The child was confident that once Michelle met Lord and Lady Clement, she would love them just like everyone else.
The child had no inkling of anyone watching them or trying to get closer, she only followed Michelle happily to the cafe the adult witch pointed to, hoping to get a glass of juice. All this excitement of running away from her Nanny and making a new friend was thirsty work.
Speaking of her Nanny, it was odd that the woman hadn't come rushing out. Mimosa must have been gone for at least ten minutes now. perhaps one of those awful hats had just swallowed her up. The girl shuddered at the idea , recommitting herself to never wearing a hat unless she absolutely had to.
As Michelle continued to reveal secrets like how she'd lived in France, how she'd run away, the little witch's big blue eyes grew wider and wider. How could someone be so... cool? Yes, Michelle was the coolest person in the entire world.
"What's a poorblood?" the girl asked curiously, her face the picture of pure concentration. "Why did you run away from your mom? Where did you go? Is there a special place where all runaways go to? Can i go there? Not to run away, just to see." ________________________________________________
