PostSubject: DADA: Lesson Two (Years 5-7)   DADA: Lesson Two (Years 5-7) EmptyThu Oct 05, 2017 7:22 pm

Christmas was almost upon the castle, which meant the usual array of Christmas hats in and around the entrance to his class. Jake sat with a pair of reindeer antlers on his head as he waited. He knew he looked ridiculous, and he simply didn't care. The older students weren't always as receptive to the playful hats, but Jake loved the holiday season, and he would not stop enjoying it for anyone.

The room had chairs in it today, for the simple fact that Jake was going to have something of a one on one basis with the class. There was still not a desk in sight, but Jake had allowed for some sitting time. The board gave the usual insight to the day's lesson, and Jake sat, as normal, atop his desk, waiting for her students to arrive.

Hopefully, they would enjoy the lesson, but once again, he was not setting them anything easy.

Resisting the Imperius Curse.

Christmas holiday wasn't really something Sasha was waiting for. It meant another holiday what won't be fun or even exciting. This will be for her like any another day in her life before Hogwarts. She wakes up, does what she wants mostly alone or around her friends. She has forgotten even how it feels to spend time around Christmas tree with your family and get Christmas presents. So she didn't really look forward to this holiday. When the castle was decorated with Christmas stuff then she just sighed and wished it would be like this at her own home too.

The girl walked slowly towards DADA class, this was class what will start for her soon. She ignored everyone who said something about Christmas plans or so. She wasn't really interested in hearing about them. She just didn't wanna ruin their fun just because she didn't have spirits for Christmas holiday.

She walked into the classroom and greeted the professor. She was a bit surprised to see seats in this class. Usually, there isn't used them. She didn't really say anything about. She just went and took a seat somewhere end of the classroom. She hated to sit at the front. She totally ignored those Christmas hats and things like this. She wasn't really in the very good mood today and it probably was showing. She wasn't today really happy and people could easily notice this. Even she had her own sad and upset days.

She glanced at the board to see what they learn today and she just sighed on that. She wasn't exactly sure what. She just went and took out her book for DADA. Maybe this will help her out a bit before the lesson. She basically knew what was Imperius Curse but how to resist it was another topic for her. She has never really been that good in spells.

PostSubject: Re: DADA: Lesson Two (Years 5-7)   DADA: Lesson Two (Years 5-7) EmptyFri Oct 06, 2017 5:17 am

Today seemed like any other day; she woke up early, showered, dressed, and got ready for class. Well...except that she ignored the large amount of owls dropping off letters. She didn't want to think about today, after all what kind did it matter that it was her sixteenth birthday? Who cared if she had asked to be excused to spend time with her father only for him to scoff and say no.  Her father was right; it was just another year and there was no need to make a big fuss of it. And so as she had brushed her hair, she pretended not to take extra time to look nicer than usual, and she pretended to ignore the letters her brother had sent her way, and she pretended not to hesitate as she saw a letter from her grand-mere. She promised herself that it could all wait till the end of the day.

'It's not a special day when you have no one to spend it with' her mind conjured up and Tess had a hard time disagreeing. The only little bright spot was that it was now easier to handle the moving stair case and more importantly, no matter how much she would deny it, the Christmas decorations warmed her icy heart. It was in these slightly cheerier thoughts where she realized that something was different in the classroom. For one thing the desks were missing at at the front was Professor Newbury with a very silly hat on.

"Good Morning Professor" She covered her mouth trying to bite back the smirk, but the amusement was clear in her eyes. He was an enigma to her, taught a darker subject but kept a light heart about it. It was nice.

That is, until she read the topic. She looked surprised at the fact that something such as that would be taught at Hogwarts. In Beauxbatons the idea of dark magic of any kind was definitely frowned upon...still the idea of learning something taboo intrigued her more than she cared to admit.

DADA was a favourite lesson of hers and the young witch always made sure she at least attended the lessons that she could. Walking down to the DADA classroom, the young witch peered into her bag to make sure that she had her books with her before she stepped inside the room that she would be in for the next hour.

Looking around, she noticed two other girls in the room apart from the Professor; one she recognized as being the new transfer student from Beauxbatons while the other was a Hufflepuff that she had seen around the castle, she couldn't remember her name but then again Roxanne rarely interacted with the girl so it was no surprise.

"Hey Jake!" Roxy smiled at the Professor as she slid into a seat at the table, her eyes moving to the board and widening just a smidge when she noticed the words on the board. Well, this would certainly be a lesson that she would excel in. She already had some training in resisting the Imperious curse purely because her father had her trained during the past few years.

“Christmas is around the corner..” Cammie thought. She couldn’t wait to spend the holidays in New York. She knew without a doubt that her parents will be bombarding her with questions and she was not ready for it. She could get to see her friends, family and her old room.

As she straightened her tie, she quickly grab her bag and went to her first class which was Defense Against The Dark Arts. She couldn’t help but smirk as she knew that this class would be a breeze. She grabbed her blue notebook  which wrote “DADA” in all caps and with her trusty friend the pencil case.

As she entered the classroom, she can hear her peers chattering among themselves about the christmas holidays. She sits behind as she wouldn’t want to sit in front as she didn’t like being the centre of attention. She could see that the class was almost packed. Cammie can’t help but giggle as her teacher, Mr Newbury is looking like a dear. She knew she will not keep a straight face during the whole duration of the class.

She can’t help but be excited about today’s class. What would make this class better is that she would have a friend sitting next to her but her dumb insecurities wouldn’t let her.

She took out her books needed for DADA, with her favourite black pen in her hand,Cammie is so ready to take on today’s lesson.

As the classroom filled with students, Jake greeted each of them in turn with a soft hello and a warm smile. Not all of his students were talkative, but that was okay. When Tess entered, calling him Professor once more, Jake shook his head slightly with amusement. "Jake is fine, Tess." He told her gently, it took time to get used to his quirks, he understood that, but he didn't want the young witch to feel the need for the authoritative terms for his job.

"I hope you're all ready for today's class?" He asked, though rhetorical he looked around the classroom to make sure that the class was ready as the clock struck the hour. "Today's lesson is going to be something of a whirlwind. This won't, as you may have come to realise, be a walk in the park at this level." Jake told them, echoing the words of their first lesson before he motioned to the board.

"You will see the subject of today's lesson is on the Imperius Curse, or, more specifically, how to resist it." Jake explained, though he knew they could read that much. "So, someone explain to me what the curse is, what category it comes in, the legality of the spell, and finally, how one would go about resisting this curse." Jake prompted, looking around for answers from his students.

Awhile waiting for class to start Sasha did learn about the spell they were covering today and she knew now a little bit about it. So for once, the girl decided to be productive in this class and try to answer the questions the professor was asking. She figured it would be a good way to earn some points for her own house.

She raised her hand to answer the question. "With Imperius Curse you can get your victim under your control if you're successful of course. It's one of the three Unforgivable Curses, also the tool for Dark Arts," she said there now what she did know. She wasn't sure how to resist it. She didn't get that part yet.

Also if she had known then it would be a good idea to let someone else reply there too. At least she did do something more than listening here today. She just hoped her answer was good enough.

When the professor corrected her greeting, Tess blushed slightly and nodded. She knew he meant no harm in his correction, but it was a bad habit for her to break. She had to remember that this was just how the class was run and this was his quirk. Still, she gave him a little smile, a shy but a genuine one.

Once Jake began the class, she was admittedly a bit disappointed that Elenore did not appear. Perhaps she had it in another period aside from hers and she frowned a bit. Too bad, she was the only Slytherin at the moment. Still, a bit of a competitive streak rose as Jake asked the first question. Her hand immediately shot up, only to have someone respond before she had an opportunity.

She bit her lip. 'She forgot the last part Tess thought. Her hand wavered a bit before steading it. Did she want to bring attention to herself? She needed to. She had briefly learned of the competition between houses and who was she if not a team player? Her hand shot up straighter and smiled once it was her turn.

"The uniqueness in this curse is the fact that you can defend yourself against it, if you have great will and character." She liked the quirkiness that came with the curse.

Cammie raised her hand and spoke confidently saying,“Also the imperius curse was used in slavery and brainwashing in the Middle ages of course and, if one uses the spell, there will be consequences. Also the consequences of using this spell is a life sentence to Azkaban. Not only that, this sentence is also for the Killing Curse and the Cruciatus curse."

Cammie hoped that she was right about her knowledge about the three unforgivable curses. She needs to step up her game when it comes to these types of things.

She twiddled her fingers and bit her lip nervously as she didn’t know if it was the right answer or not. It would be kind of embarrassing if it’s wrong and Mr Newbury just shook his head and corrected her in front of the whole class. She took a deep breath and just exhaled as she knew she needed to keep calm.

Then she realised that the teacher didn't ask for that.

The Imperious Curse was one that Roxy had deep knowledge of, as the daughter of Aldric, a leader of Magical Germany, she had been taught how to throw off the curse. She had never cast it herself though but that didn't mean she didn't know how. She just felt no need to darken her core with the foul magic of the Unforgivable.

"It can either be yellow-green in colour or have no colour at all when cast." Roxy piped up after the girls finished their answers. "You just need to point your wand at whoever you are casting and say the incantation. It's apparently the least painful of the curses as you feel no pain what so ever when it's cast on you unless of course it had been cast incorrectly which can lead to dire consequences like breaking someone's mind. It's also theorised that after the curse is lifted, whatever pain you went through while you were under the spell would come back."

She had read about the curse extensively and she was quite sure that her answer was partially correct even if it wasn't something that Jake asked for specifically.
