She Will Be Loved {Elenore and Alexei}

The first day of being back at Hogwarts and Alexei was already growing tired of being in the school; the Slytherin common room was still abuzz with the news of the young Clement child, Mimosa, every one of the Slytherin's wondering just who was this. Alexei cared nought though, Elenore's reaction to the girl worried him, very much so and he feared what state of mind his friend was in.

He wrote a quick note and, after calling for a house-elf, gave the note to the small creature with the instructions to find Elenore Clement and give her the note. There were just five simple words on there.

Meet me on the grounds.

Whether she would join him though, was a big if but the Slytherin wasn't too bothered by that.

After he got showered and dressed, Alexei left his awfully loud common room to take a quick walk to the Great Hall to grab a piece of toast and some pumpkin juice in a goblet before he stalked out of the castle, rolling his eyes at the whispers. Who cared whether the girl was an actual Clement or not? All he cared about was making sure that Elenore was alright though knowing her she probably wouldn't reveal much.

Then again, he was stubborn so he would, probably, be able to get the girl to reveal what was wrong.

A headache clung to Elenore the next morning as she bathed and dressed herself with careful consideration. The talking had not stopped in the dormitory in hushed whispers until the early morning, the other witches in her dorm apparently oblivious, or else uncaring, towards Elenore's distraught persona. Not that Elenore really blamed them, she'd stayed hidden for much and more of the evening.

Elenore was just brushing her hair through -- counting the strokes carefully to ensure the ritual her Grandmere had taught her did not go incomplete -- when a House Elf appeared with a small crack. The French witch had barely looked at the creature as it handed her a note, and after waving the creature away, another small crack had sounded through the room.

Opening it carefully, Alexei's handwriting came in to view, and the witch felt some of the aching in her temples subside.

Meet me on the grounds.

As if she'd forgotten their agreement to go out that morning? Elenore smiled to herself in the mirror in that moment, completing the final five strokes of her hair. Then, deftly, the witch pulled her hair up in to a bun, leaving only a couple of strands to fall around her face, shaping it elegantly as she checked the light hues of makeup she'd applied.

The floor length skirt that had been made for riding was coupled with a jacket made from the same material, a white shirt sat beneath the jacket, which had been tailored to Elenore for comfort, but to look impressive. A set of leather gloves to match, and Elenore excused herself from the refuge of the common room.

The walk was, thankfully, uneventful. Elenore did not bump in to anyone, and it seemed the castle, at large, was still asleep. Slipping out in to the grounds, Elenore turned towards the stables, knowing Alexei would have come this way after their discussions. Pulling her gloves on, and tucking them under her jacket, Elenore moved with purpose across the grounds, until Alexei came in to view, a short way from the stables.

Upon seeing the Slytherin, though, Elenore paused for a moment, taking him in. After being alone with her thoughts all evening, after trying to deal with Mimosa's stupid outburst, she had thought that this would be something she kept to herself. Or, processed herself, but Alexei's note made sense now, and the Hufflepuff felt like she'd been backed -- unknowingly -- in to a corner.

Still, it would not do well to avoid one of only a few friends she had in the castle.

"Morning, Alexei!" Elenore greeted the older male as warmly as she could muster in that moment. She was sure, though, it would sound off. Moving closer, Elenore took the male in for a few moments, before asking. "How're you this morning? I hope the other Slytherins didn't keep you up too late with their party?"

Watching the Hufflepuff walk across the courtyard towards the stables, Alexei was aware of the trick that he pulled and that the Clement witch wasn't too happy with him; even though she smiled and acted like nothing was wrong, the male could pick up the slight instances in her mannerism that warned him that she wasn't too happy with him backing her into a corner like this.

"Good morning Elenore." Alexei dipped his head in greeting, his eyes taking in how the witch held herself up. Even though many would say that you couldn't see that something was wrong, Alexei's sharp eyes and ears picked up on the barely distinguishable marks of the younger witch being upset. It wasn't anything telling but it was enough to tell Alexei that Elenore was certainly upset.

"I'm... okay considering everything." He replied vaguely to the question, his lips quirking before his face smoothed at the second question. "Thankfully there was no party, unfortunately, the... revelation at dinner kept everyone up with questions to that girl... Mimosa? about how she was related to you and the Clement family. I escaped as soon as was polite for me to do so."

His voice was dry as he thought back on last night events in the Slytherin common room, it wasn't hard for the wizard to see that Mimosa wasn't a true-bred Clement. She didn't hold herself as one and she certainly didn't act like a Clement should. She was brash and loud and while one could forgive her due to being a child, she still was a Clement child.

"And yourself?" His voice soft, soothing as he focused on the witch in front of him once more,
blue eyes shining with worry and silently asking her the questions that he didn't dare voice out loud. "How are you holding up?"

"Considering everything?" Elenore asked, a small touch of a frown threatening her brow in that moment before it smoothed out. Elenore could not, in all honesty, be sure as to what Alexei was referring to in that moment. Perhaps, she reflected, she'd been too self-absorbed since returning to the castle, on the train, to worry about her friend. Something that Elenore was now starting to feel truly terrible about.

But, Alexei's answer -- and the answer Elenore had, truly, been expecting to hear -- was not one that aided the Hufflepuff in that moment.

It was not Alexei's fault, and rationally speaking Elenore knew that. However, the French witch stepped past the Slytherin in that moment, the hurt on her features just about staying away until she'd moved past him, continuing towards the stables knowing Alexei would follow. The French witch needed a moment to collect her thoughts, before she spoke, and she was quite sure Alexei would understand, he'd been so understanding up until now, she doubted that would change.

From the first stable popped the head of a beautiful white horse, and Elenore moved closer, holding out her hand for the beast to get used to her. It took a couple of brief moments, but the horse allowed her to come closer only a moment later. In the same time Alexei asked how she was doing.

"As well as anyone can when their name is being run amok by a child who does not understand the power of the name she used so freely, and without a second thought." Elenore replied to the question he'd posed, keeping it sounding as impersonal as possible, even if everything in her entire being was screaming that she needed to talk about it, she didn't trust herself, not truly.

"Isn't she beautiful?" Elenore deflected, looking from the beautiful white mare to the Slytherin wizard, a smile playing on her lips, the hopeful look on her features that Alexei would take this subject than push her quite clear in that moment.

"Just some news that I had received from my brother just before I arrived at the station. I'm just worried... Hopefully for nothing." The Italian replied smoothly with a weak smile that he knew was probably not going to help anything.

Watching the witch, Alexei slowly started his trek after her, giving her the space she needed to formulate an answer for him. He knew that it hadn't been right of him to accost Elenore like this but he had a feeling that if he didn't do this, the Hufflepuff would've just brushed off his questions and clamped down in silence about everything. It wasn't healthy to do so and that's why he was willing to ignite her anger in doing this.

"A child that clearly has connections to you and is very fond of Jacques. She didn't stop blabbering about him in the common room and more than that, she was boasting about being a Clement. Of course not obviously but I've been taught to read beneath the words and there is no mistake that she was boasting about that. Who is that girl exactly Elenore?" Even though Elenore's posture was defensive and angry, Alexei had a dim awareness that the witch before him needed to talk about all this. There was just no way that she was okay, no matter how she acted. No-one would enjoy having their name used like that.

At the clear deflection though, Alexei gave Elenore a look before he turned towards the mare that Elenore was petting and he had to admit, she was beautiful. "Very. Does she have a name by any chance?" He questioned but didn't dare step closer to the mare. Even though he didn't know much about horses he was aware that they prefered to approach on their own so he just stood there.

"That's very cryptic." Elenore commented in response to Alexei's explanation as to what was on his mind. But, the French witch didn't press. If he wanted to talk about such things, she was sure that he would find the words to explain himself in full. If he did not... well, Elenore was not in the business of insisting upon anything from anyone.

A wry smile touched Elenore's lips at the mention of Mimosa's actions upon being sorted in to Slytherin. Of course the younger witch would make herself the centre of attention in the very moment she arrived at the castle. Why wouldn't she flounce the Clement name when her parents had freely given her that privilege to ensure she got everything she needed whilst at the school.

No, Elenore was not surprised by the Clement Ward's actions.

That would require not already knowing what the child was capable of, and unlike the rest of the world, Elenore Clement was not blind to Mimosa's short comings. Alexei pressed to know who Mimosa was, though, and Elenore knew she could not lie to the boy without pushing him away from her. Something she was finding that she could no longer afford, in truth.

"Mimosa Harrington is a ward at the Palace of Versailles. Taken on by my Maman and Papa when I was eight years old." Elenore explained to Alexei, not turning to look at him because she did not like to discuss this subject in the slightest, but she didn't feel like she had any other choice. "Which means my family look after her, her health, her education, and ensure she needs for nothing in her life. She's fond of Jacques because Jacques is fond of her."

And, the last sentence was said with distaste.

Jacques had always had a soft spot for little Mimosa, one that Elenore had never felt from her brother herself. What was it that Mimosa had that she didn't? Why did he love Mimosa so very much when she was as far from perfect as any child could be? Elenore did not understand, of course, how could she?

The question of the mare's name brought Elenore away from her thoughts, and she looked to the horse before her.

"The British are lazy in naming their animals, this one was simply named Snow." Elenore explained, knowing Alexei would appreciate the inside jab on the British and their lack of creativity. As both of them did not hail from the country, it went without saying that they had a bond in that respect. "I prefer Bruant des Neiges, though," Elenore explained, pausing for a moment, before translating. "Snowflake."

"And not for speaking out here." Alexei did want to tell Elenore but out here, where anyone could chance upon them, the former Assassin didn't want to risk the wrong person overhearing his words. Who knew what people would do. For the moment though, he would keep his own problems to himself, only when he was quite sure that no-one would listen would he divulge his problems to the Hufflepuff witch.

Keen eyes watched the brunette and the Italian easily spotted signs of clear distaste when it came to the child in question. Elenore may be a Pureblood but Alexei was a master when it came to reading hidden body language and face quirks, Elenore's entire body screamed that she didn't like the young witch that had joined Slytherin House.

He hated pressing Elenore on a clearly touchy subject but unless the witch got it out of her system she would break and fall under the pressure of keeping stuff to herself; no-one was capable of that, not even a staunch pureblood like Elenore was.

He listened and watched, eyes focused on the witch before him who seemed to be wanting to shy away from the subject. He listened and took notes mentally, clearly, this was a subject that Elenore thoroughly hated and the fact that her own brother was more fond of Mimosa than her was clearly heard through the distasteful tone of voice.

The jab at the British brought a quirk of amusement to Alexei's lips; he was all too aware of the lack of creativity when it came to the Brits, at least those of magical descent anyway. "Bruant des Neiges." His Italian accent was clearly heard through the French pronunciation yet he hadn't butchered the words up, thankfully. "A beautiful name for such a beautiful horse."

The fact Alexei did not wish to speak of the problem he had heard of out here was one that Elenore could understand. You never knew who was listening to your conversation, you had to go careful. But, that did not mean she was going to let the Slytherin male get away without telling her at some point. After all, if he was going to push her in to talking to him, Elenore was entitled to do the same thing in return.

Alexei did not offer a response to the explanation on Mimosa, for which Elenore was quite glad. The child was not something Elenore wished to discuss with the male with whom she had built something of an understanding with over the last six months, and it seemed he was happy to simply take the information on board, and leave it there. Perhaps Alexei was a bigger relief in this world than Elenore had truly realised.

The agreement that Bruant des Neiges was a beautiful horse brought a fond smile to Elenore's lips in that moment, and the witch looked to Alexei, holding out her hand to him to show that it was okay to come closer.

Once the boy had taken her hand, Elenore would slowly guide his hand up to the mare's head, making him stop just before the beast, making him wait for Bruant des Neiges to lean in to his touch, before the French witch would draw her hand away from his.

"First, we will get her to like your touch, get used to you, then we'll move on from there. It will take time to gain her trust, as with any beast, but if you truly want to learn to ride, we can come out each night after classes, until she lets you ride her." Elenore explained, because this was not going to be a one-visit lesson. No, Bruant des Neiges was a fickle beast, and Alexei would have to win her trust first.

OOC: I'm not sure if you want to round this topic off, and we'll just say they managed to get Alexei to ride Bruant des Neiges in a couple of weeks in later threads, or whether you want to expand, but I don't think we have much to add...
