The burning of a cigarette made his lungs sigh in relief. The bitter taste, and the relaxation that came with it was spectacular. He closed his eyes and relished the burning before he released the smoke. Mycroft was not a weak man, at least he did not consider himself one until what had occurred at the ICWW. Since then, sleep was rare, and the vices arose such as a cup of whiskey a night, or a packet of smokes a day to keep him relaxed.
He knew he was doing wrong, so much so that he had avoided his family once he returned, due to the business that needed to be attended to. He refused to say anything more but that he needed to have some time to himself. It had hurt to close the door on his sister when she reached out to him.
So now as the lessons began at least they had a neutral ground to interact on. He wanted a lesson that would distract many. So a simple potion was put on the board:
Love Potion
He allowed one more inhale before be burned it out. The students could soon come in and he would rather avoid any questions. Sitting back, he waited patiently.

| After the debacle of the opening feast, Elenore had been keeping a low profile. A profile that Elenore would have loved to have kept even lower when she saw Potions coming up. The reason for the horrendous time she was having was going to be presenting itself in the form of Mycroft Holmes.
Not that it was Mycroft's fault.
It was her Maman.
Elenore was undeterred, though as she pushed the door open. Finding herself to be the first to arrive. Grimacing slightly the witch moved to a seat with a soft "Professor." Leaving her lips. She didn't wish to talk too much. Completely embarrassed by the events of the summer it was best to keep a low profile.
So she did. Taking out her books and note pads, Elenore wanted, eyes down cast, for more people to arrive and for Professor Holmes to begin his class.

| Potions was not exactly Delia's cup of tea. She much preferred things being instant rather than labouring over something for hours or even days to get a result. Still, it was an interesting notion, and she could see the benefits of it. It could be much more subtle, sprinkling something deadly into the drink of an enemy, or their food. It was by far much subtler than an outright hex or curse that could be traced back, but Delia would probably buy it rather than make it herself.
Still, learning to make it would be beneficial, and so without anything better to do, Delia decided to attend the class.
Stepping into the room, she took in the man in front, internal eyebrow raised. If she were a few years older... Hell, even if she weren't... But would he be the type? He seemed to be in his early to mid twenties, not an age that was too far aways from her own. It would be inappropriate by far, and they'd have to keep it secret, but where was the fun in anything legal or conventional?
The faint odour of cigarettes filled her lungs, bringing back ghost memories of a smoke-filled room and Irene all to herself for a weekend. A light smirk touched her features. The things they got up to... Well, she wouldn't mind recreating those moments with the male before her. She would wait and see how things played along before doing anything.
"Hello, Professor," she greeted, moving to the front row. She wouldn't outright flirt just yet, instead toeing the line between friendly and sultry; she could play innocent so well, if she was called out on slutty behaviour she could pretend she never meant that.
Glancing at the topic on the board, she swallowed a laugh. How... ironic. For a moment -- just a moment -- she was tempted to ask him for a smoke; she smelt it, knew he probably had it. She didn't enjoy it per se, but hanging around Irene for so long had rubbed off, and she didn't mind the occassional cigarette. But she bit all that down and leaned back in her chair, waiting for class. |

If someone told her a year ago that she would be curious about what her brother was up to they would be joking. But now it was very much true. Ever since the ICWW, Tess has found herself to be worried sick over the idea of what happened. Myce said nothing, yet the pain in his eyes was clear. Admittedly it hurt to have him turn her away, but she took it in stride hoping it would get better.
It obviously hadn't and instead he locked himself in unwilling to properly show his face. So as soon as classes began she found herself marching to his classroom. If he refused to talk to her now, he would have to before everyone else arrived.
Pushing the door open, she froze seeing Elenore there. She ignored the feeling of disappointment for not being the first and instead knew she would have to calculate another plan. Biting her lip, she waited for a young woman to take her seat before she walked over to her brother and softly murmured something so no one would listen:.
"You and I are talking about this class you bastard or I'm calling grand-mere" her eyes were intently staring at the blue eyes of her brother. "I'm serious...professor"
Pushing away a fake smile came to her face as she sat herself beside Elenore.
"Morning Ellie" she murmured softly. "Back in the grind yes?"
Her eyes were curious on the new face before them but she said nothing. After all...transfers were a normal thing.
A soft mumur of a greeting was sent towards the new face.
"Good Morning"

| Clara was looking forward to finally being in the upper level potions class. By the end of her third year, she'd all but memorized her beginners potions textbooks, and had taken to researching more advanced ones in the library. She was hoping for some more difficult, and more exciting, potions than what they'd been studying previously. She was more than ready.
Stepping into the classroom, the first thing that hit her was the faint smell of cigarette smoke. Weird. She wrinkled her nose slightly. None of the potions teachers had ever smoked before. Glancing curiously at their professor, she recognized him as the guest lecturer they'd had at the end of the year last year. She didn't remember him smoking. Must be a new habit.
She took an open seat next to a new student she hadn't seen before. Either she hadn't been paying attention, or the girl was a transfer student. Both were equally likely, but she decided it was probably the second one, as the others didn't seem familiar with her either.
Looking up at the board, she nodded to herself. They were starting off the year with a relatively simple brew--nothing they hadn't been exposed to before. The year would probably get progressively harder, or so she hoped.
She pulled out her textbook, just in case, though she was fairly certain she knew most of what went into a love potion. Then she stared at the professor and waited patiently for instructions. |

| To say Zoey was excited for the lesson would be a huge understatement. This was potions. Her favorite subject. She couldnt control the level of happiness and joy coursing through her body at the moment as she made her way down to the dungeons to the classroom,.
When she entered the dimly lit room she smiled at their professor "Hello professor Holmes." She said as she took a seat. When she saw the lesson subject on the board she became fascinated immediately. A love potion. She had read about those over the summer. This would certainly be an interesting class.
She looked around and was happy to see another Ravenclaw in the midst of students. Clara Goldberg. She did not really know much of her, other than her name. Zoey really did have to work on that, getting to know her housemates and the students from the other houses. She couldnt be a loner her whole life. |

The morning began with Elenore entering, and it seemed that it was awkward for the young lady; to be fair he was the same way. He didn't mean to hurt her and the idea of the lesson plan unfortunately made him seem cold. But he did not mean it, nor wished to remember that unfortunate meeting. Thankfully another newer face entered and took her seat primly in the front row. Had he been in another state of mind he would have realized her tone was less than appropriate.
Instead the wildfire that was his sister came in demanding to speak with him. That is until she realized that others were there. It was funny to see her wishing to reach out to him but unable to due to propriety. Her determination was fun, but he simply raised his brow to signal her to take her seat.
Once the last scheduled student entered, the doors locked behind her and he could truly begin his lesson and he turned to face his students. The idea of a smaller intimate class worked well in being able to know what worked well and be more hands on with his students. Though seeing that all the students were female was an interesting one.
"Good Morning students. For those of you that are new to my class, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Mycroft Holmes and I am the Head of Slytherin and your Potions Professor. If you have taken the time to read my syllabus you would know that I plan to drill any and all potions that could be on any test. They vary in difficulty and ethically teeter on propriety. While this might not be your favorite class at the end of the year, it will be a memorable one."
He knew that this was not how most of them would wish it to be, but he did not have time for games. The coffee was coursing through his veins and he needed to release it.
"Today we will start with a 'beginner' potion. I call this beginner because it involves you choosing which potion it will be. First off, let's see if someone can speak up and answer at least one portion of the questions."
Before them the questions began to write themselves down in the air in his handwriting.
1) What is the strongest love potion? 2) Are there any variations out there?
3) What is a unique aspect of these potions? |

| Zoey could not wait to begin the lesson. She was fiddling her thumbs as she waited for their professor to begin speaking. When he did she listened and saw the questions appear in the air. She thought about the questions for a moment before raising her hand.
She at least knew the answer to the first question "The strongest love potion in the world is Amortentia, sir." She knew some fact about amortentia, such as scent and what exactly it could and could not do, but she decided to wait and let someone else give some answers and if they did not say what she was thinking she would give the rest of her answer.
She looked around to see if anyone else seemed to know the answers. She rested her elbow on the desk and put her hand in the palm of her hand as she waited for an answer from someone. |

| As the class began, Clara found herself intrigued by the idea of choice. In earlier years, most lessons had simply focused on one potion in particular that they would have to brew. This class instead covered a whole category of potions, some harder than others, and Professor Holmes mentioned that they would choose. It was an interesting twist, and she rather liked it. It allowed more freedom, and showed that, as older students, they were trusted to be responsible for themselves.
When the questions appeared in the air, Clara was tempted to answer all of them, but she knew she was supposed to let other people have a chance. The first one was basic textbook knowledge and didn't require much thought, so she didn't bother with it. When her fellow housemate claimed that one, she moved on to the next two, and decided she could sort of answer both of them at once, though she'd allow someone else to go into further detail if they so chose.
"There is plenty of variation amongst love potions," she said after raising her hand. "But one thing they all have in common is that they can't actually create love--only infatuation, lust, or obsession." |

| She took in the name, raising an internal eyebrow, the pieces finally clicking into place. He looked different when she last saw him, and even that had been so long ago... Damn shame, she thought, reeling back the emotions as quickly as they had come. She was not going to flirt with the Holmes heir -- or any heir of an elite family, for that matter, unless they flirted first. It simply wasn't safe, and while Delia wanted some fun, she was by no means stupid or foolish about it. The last thing she wanted was to accidentally end up with one of those. She wouldn't make a good Pureblood wife, that much was for sure.
Turning her attention to the board at the front of the class, she took in the question, mulling over the phrasing of them and trying to recall anything she could about them. Potions weren't her strong point -- she didn't like sitting around waiting and following things to the letter -- although if she really wanted to, she could make herself do it. It wasn't difficult, just tedious, and she hated tedious.
But theory, she knew. Or rather, remembered hearing.
As soon as the Ravenclaw finished, Delia raised her hand, waited to be called upon, and then shrugged. "Too many variations," she said. "Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes sells at least four different ones, and it's not hard to brew them, per se. They use mostly the same ingredients, after all. They just have slightly different effects and last different length of times."
She paused for a second, just to gather her thoughts, and then went on. "As..." She hesitated, realising she didn't actually know the Ravenclaw's name, then went on, "already mentioned, it doesn't actually create love. In order to do that, one must first define it. What is it? I don't think anyone knows. But lust -- desire for a body, a person -- is not love, and that is something everyone knows." She paused, shrugging again. "Unless you're asexual, but that's... Anyway, you can't recreate something that isn't easily defined. We know what lust is -- hormones, raw desire for sex, human nature -- and that is what the potion offers. Also, if a person is born with one of their parents under the affects of a love potion, they can't feel or give affection." |
