His smile widened at her admission, noting the tone in her voice and knowing what she was referring to. That would be a secret that remained between them, a secret of friendship and of something more. Secrets, Jesse knew, bound two people together and strenghtened their relationship. To have something in common that only they knew and nobody else? Well. That was something incredible and of all people to have a secret with, Jesse was glad it was Tess.
Delia merely shrugged. "Yeah but now you can't live without me," she said. "Don't lie. You neeeeedddd me." She grinned, leaning back in the chair as she continued nibbling at the apple.
Jesse ignored her. "I'm glad you did," he responded, his gaze soft and gentle as he smiled at Tess. And truly, he was. As if just realising they weren't alone, he straighted a little, turning almost self-consciously to Matteo, offering him a slight grin. "And how was ... where had you been yesterday?" he added.
"You took her to...huh. Yeah alright"
Catching his eyes, Jesse very, very slightly jerked his head to the side, so tiny a movement that nobody would notice unless they were looking out for it -- and, he trusted, Matteo would. Later, he was saying, with his eyes and his expression. Nodding at the second statement, Jesse relaxed a little as Matteo moved on. He was glad his best friend was, among many other things, sharp. If there was one thing Jesse couldn't stand it was air heads. "Not seafood," he said, simply, remembering Tess' dietry restriction from the day before. "Perhaps lamb and some mushrooms or spinach? Nothing too difficult; we could pair it with a red wine or limoncello."
