| First match of 2024/2024 was between GRYFFINDOR (A) and SLYTHERIN (B).

The match was held on Saturday, the 11th and caused quite the stir! First time players included Mercy Williams of Gryffindor and Alexei Blackthorn of Slytherin. The weather remained fairly decent with only a slight dash of rain during the first five minutes of the game. Supporters from all Houses turned up in droves to watch Professor Newbury referee the opening match of the year while his colleagues observed from the sidelines.
Whether it was the presence of the internally academical ex Quidditch player or everyone deciding to coincidentally deck themselves out in maroon, the crowd was definitely in favor of Gryffindor that afternoon. The Slytherins non the less showed their support by outshining everyone else thanks to a giant silver serpent banner courtesy of the first years. ________________________________________________

| An outstanding performance by Gryffindor Chasers who managed to rack up a whopping 140 points. Mercy Williams was on fire today, folks. And we would be remiss if we did not point out the stellar work on the Lion Keeper's part. He saved multiple attempts made my Slytherin chasers and continued to play even after a bludger clipping his elbow. Speaking of, the Serpents really need a decent Beater on their team.
But the hero of the game, the man of the match, the crem de la crem, was definitely the Slytherin Seeker. She is the only reason this match was won by the Serpents regardless of their Chasers' and Keeper's shortcomings. Somebody give that girl a drink for she deserves it! The match ended with Gryffindor 140 to Slytherin 190 thanks to her flawless capture of the Golden Snitch despite the Scarlet Beaters remaining on her tail for almost the whole game.
A two hours well spent indeed. ________________________________________________

| The second match of 2023/2024 was held on a Sunday, the last Sunday of November to be precise. The 26th dawned cloudy and dreary, the worst possible weather for the face off between HUFFLEPUFF (A) and RAVENCLAW (B). And while the winds whistled through the hoops and played tug of war with the banners, the rain did not start in earnest until ten minutes before the match.
A sopping wet crowd hunched in the scarce shade of the stands as both team captains met drenched midfield to shake hands. Professor Newbury refereed once more. No notable changes in the team line ups this year because there was no new talent? Or because the teams could not get organised enough to hold tryouts? Crowd expectation here was definitely lower than in the previous match in part due to the rain and in part due to the fact that Hufflepuffs are usually too genial to sell a grudge match.

| What an utter and complete bloodbath folks! It's a good thing it was raining or the pitch would remain stained crimson with the blood of the Badgers for years to come. The Ravens initiated nothing less than a massacre on the unsuspecting Badgers, utilizing the rain as a weapon to first ruthlessly take out the Hufflepuff Keeper and make goal after goal in his absence and then go after the Hufflepuff Seeker.
The game ended with Ravenclaw's expected and unopposed capture of the Snitch, bringing the birdies flying high to a total of 330 points! That's right folks, an impossible 330 points to Hufflepuff's mere four goals and forty points. Not only did Ravenclaw steamroll their opponent but unless this commentator is very much mistaken, they also landed themselves at the top of the league.
Notable performances included Roxanne Förstner of Ravenclaw who kept her eye on the Snitch no matter how hard it rained and Hufflepuff Beater Lewis Oakley who spent the majority of the game trying to take out... anyone on the other team. Sadly, lack of teamwork from his fellow Beater ensure he did not meet his goal.
Professor Kessler will sleep snug tonight, his students having proven they are just as deadly on the pitch as they are in the exam hall! ________________________________________________

| The first match of the new year (2024) donned on Sunday, February eighteenth and was contested between RAVENCLAW (A) and SLYTHERIN (B). The weather donned beautiful and calm, quite at contrast with the anxiety the Slytherin Team was feeling at the prospect of such a daunting task. Ravenclaw's superior lead had the serpents worried from the get go.

The crowds showed up in droves once more - and did we see some couples out in the stands due to the proximity of the match to Valentine's day? - to support their houses or there friends. A particularly loud group of Gryffindors came decked out in green banners and silver signs. Even more surprisingly, the group was lead by First Year Dominique Greene who chose to sit with the Slytherins instead of her own Housemates. ________________________________________________

| A long, hard fraught match that brings to mind how important the Golden Snitch really is. The Slytherin team was on top form tonight. The Chasers were making goal after goal while the Keeper was stolid in his position by the goalposts. Despite Ravenclaw's attempts, he defended more than they scored over the nearly three hour long match. Even the Slytherin Beaters, veterans Anderson and Cserepes, were on the Raven's tails at all times.
And yet it was the Blue Seeker who took the cake. The Serpents strategy was simple, not to catch the Snitch until the point differences were made for while the Ravens had one goal: catch the Snitch as quickly as possible to secure their lead. After three failed attempts to do just that, Ravenclaw finally prevailed, securing the little golden ball and their victory. The game ended with 190 to 250 in favor of the blue.
The question now on everyone's mind is of course, if there is any suspense left in this year's Quidditch Cup. Will a stronger team be able to dethrone Ravenclaw from an almost certain overall win or will the Ravens rule the roost this year? ________________________________________________
