This new year, he decided that he would make sure that his class would be able to learn properly in a more structured classroom. If he was honest with himself, he had failed to do so during his first run of teaching. For one thing he allowed most students to chat, or he wasn't strict with his lesson plan, but this time he told himself he would change it. He was determined to create more functional potions that would be used in everyday life.
This time, he reached out to Clarinda to see if St. Mungos would need anything and there was one thing that she was determined: Burn Healing Paste. He figured that this age group would be the most appropriate group to create the necessary paste. Moving to the front he sat on his desk waiting patiently for the others to come in.

| When Sophie learned that Professor Holmes was separating the different years, she was insanely relived. While she hadn't really minded the previous potions lesson with the younger years, she felt that she didn't learn as much as she could had the classes been separated. With the younger years, they had to move slower and there wasn't much challenge to the lesson. Now that they were divided, she hoped that she could learn much more.
"Hello, Professor Holmes," she greeted the professor with a bright smile as she entered the classroom. She took a seat in the middle of the second row and looked to see if there was anything written on the board. She raised her eyebrows a little as she read the topic of the lesson. While she had never heard of or made the Burn Healing Paste in Potions, she knew the muggle equivalent of that.
Two summers ago, a herd of horses had been rescued from a slaughter house and a few of them had severe cuts, open wounds, and other injuries caused by rough handling, including rope burns. Gramma had taught her to concoct a poultice of honey, ground charcoal, and olive oil. While it didn't work instantly, it sure sped up the healing process and kept the horses safe until a vet could look at them. It would be interesting to see what the Burn Healing Paste would be like. |

| Chauncey was not the type of person who enjoyed classes. Because most of the classes went too slow for the fourth year. So after hearing about things being different, for the upcoming term it had made him happy. He had begun to make his way to class, as he had his belongings in his satchel. The Ravenclaw had been walking and hoped that it would be a class that not be filled with too many people. Since he didn't feel like dealing with a lot of people, and not getting the proper attention, he deserved.
Entering the classroom, he saw one other student was there. Rolling his eyes, since he was worried that this would mean working together. Potions had been his favorite subject and in the Ravenclaw's mind, he was best at what he did. Taking a seat in the back of the class, Chauncey looked up at the board and smirked. He didn't mind working on a healing potion, and it would be a good thing for him, in his mind.
"I am guessing this is a healing potion, Professor Holmes?" asked Chauncey, even though the name had been a dead giveaway. But he wanted the answer to be sure, and the boy only recalled briefly, his father telling him about healing potions. So after taking some time to think, the fourth year began to set up his workstation. Letting out a small smile, once everything had been out and he waited for the lesson to begin. |

| Clara was slightly annoyed that she was back to an intermediate level potions class, even though she'd been able to keep up just fine with the older students last time. She realized it was probably to accommodate a larger class size, but still. She'd gotten good marks on her potion--she was even invited to join the potions club. She didn't see why she couldn't join the more advanced class.
She kept these thoughts to herself as she entered the classroom, in time to hear her housemate asking a question. She looked up at the board. It literally says "burn healing paste," I think we can assume it's not a poison, she thought drily. She gave her fellow Ravenclaw a funny look, but didn't comment.
Instead, she took a seat near the front and set her things down. She pulled out her textbook, and all the necessary supplies, setting them neatly on her desk. She'd made this potion before, so she knew what she'd have to do, but she waited for the professor anyway, in case he was going to preface the class with a few questions like he normally did. |

| For Nerisei, Potions were the only subject she just couldn't live without. After all, she wanted to become a Potion Mistress. So no matter how hard the Year had been for her, Potions were the only thing she made sure she never failed. Making her way towards the Dungeons, Nerisei avoided most of the people and kept her head low. The weird looks towards her had become more and more frequent but the Ravenclaw witch didn't give a damn. The good, happy Nerisei was gone. In her place was a determined, cold woman, who was ready for anything.
As she was descending the stairs, a Gryffindor bumped into her, earning a glare from the witch. "Sorry," the guy mumbled but Nerisei didn't give him a chance to say more as she kept walking, faster than before, wanting to reach her destination as soon as possible. The more she was around all these people, the angrier she was getting. This was not fun.
Pushing the door open, she slipped inside and moved towards the back of the room. Even though she was always sitting in the front, the back seemed way more appealing nowadays. She was good no matter where she was sat. Glancing up at the board once she was settled, a sad smile touched the girl's features.
Burn Healing Paste.
If only it could heal her scars... |

The moment after he had prepped for class, the students began to come in. At every greeting he forced himself not nod nonchalantly curious to see what faces looked into it or horrified at the prospect of this mandatory lesson. He knew that he had a few minutes left, but he figured that he could just start.
"Hello students, I see some of you have the idea as to what we will be working on. For one thing, we will be creating a different kind of concoction. I want you that are close to being upperclassman to be able to see that potions are useful. Whether it be bone re-grow to pastes and salves, potions can reach different areas of our real world."
"Now...my question starts off simple enough: what careers would depend on these kind of pastes to be created? My second question -- what cooling spell is usually associated with the paste?"

| Sophie sat up straight as the professor started the class. She'd noticed that she was the only Gryffindor in the room, the other students all being Ravenclaws. She had to prove herself and make her house proud. Just because she preferred adventure over being studious, that didn't make her any less smart.
Professor Holmes gave a mini introduction and dived right into the questions. She raised her hand and waited for permission to speak before attempting to answer the question. "In the wizarding world, Healers would need these kinds of pastes to be created to be able to treat their patients. It can be useful to Dragon Trainers too," she began. "In the Muggle world, I think firemen would find it very useful."
Feeling that she had talked for long enough, she decided to end her answer there though she had other ideas. Potioneers needed the paste too. If potions backfired, there was a chance that they could be seriously burned. In a smaller scope, the paste could come in handy for those who worked with salamanders. But she didn't want to come across as a know-it-all - which was a little ironic since she was in a room full of Ravenclaws.
The only cooling spell she knew was the Freezing Spell. There was also the Atmospheric Charm which could work as a cooling thing, but unsure if any of those were associated with the paste, Sophie opted to stay silent and see what the others had to say. |

| Professor Holmes has been called away from your lesson unexpectantly -- the third year student who delivered the news explaining that the Ministry is here for him, and asking him to come with them immediately. Nobody knows what this is about, least of all Professor Holmes, and the whole class looks to each other in confusion. What... is going on? Nobody knows, and the rumour mill that is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is conjuring up many and more stories to try to explain Professor Holmes' absence. Class now closed. House Points:Sophie Heart = 10 points for attendance + 5 points for answering question = 15 points.Chauncey Rosseau = 10 points for attendance Clara Goldstein = 10 points for attendance Nerisei Gerber = 10 points for attendanceTOTAL: Gryffindor: 15 Hufflepuff: 0 Ravenclaw: 30 Slytherin: 0 | |
