King's Cross was always crowded this time of year but Mimosa didn't mind. This was the good kind of crowd, eh crowd that couldn't wait to get on bored the Hogwarts Express and meet her, the crowd that celebrated her return to school! After a wonderfully eventful summer, mimosa Harrington was glad to go back to school. She would finally have some time to relax. She would also get to catch up with all ehr friends, as she repeatedly told Jacques and Clara who had come to drop her off. The two adults had teamed up to make an epic going away day for her involving lots of presents and food packed away for her friends. Jacques hand't mind being in London anyway as he was going on another dinner with Miss Kiranjeet, though he'd promised that was only his secondary motive as Clara winked in the background.

The platform was as crowded as ever, making it harder to see if Mercy was around but Mimosa had sure tried. At one point, she had even looked up at Jacques in annoyance, leading the Frenchman to pick her up and hoist her up high but the older Gryffindor was still nowhere to be seen. Only slightly put out, the young brunette had wished them both goodbye and given them a hug and kiss each before rushing into the train. "Mimosa watch out," a familiar voice called out before an arm went up around ehr protectively as a trunk went whizzing by them, catching Gaspard on the shoulder slightly. The fourth year Slytherin's face broke into a bright grin at seeing her friend, Mimosa reaching to hug him tightly.

"Gaspard, I missed you so much! You should write to me more, Oh Seema, hiiii!" And just like that, more Ravenclaws began to emerge from the woodwork. "Jia En, oh my god I saw Camoens in India who looked just like you! Hey has anyone seen Mercy?"Sadly no one had, but the group didn't seem all that bothered as they moved on into the Ravenclaw compartment where Mimosa spoke to everyone interchangeably before the door burst open to reveal Dia.

From there, the two girls moved further down the compartments, catching up as best they could over all the yelling until Dia was eventually exchanged for Karan who had started an early lookout for the trolley witch.

"Hey Mimosa, I saw you on the big screen at the world cup! And Nikolai and Mercy were with you, I'm so jealous! Hey come on, the Slytherins already have a compartment going everyone's there!" The fifth year dragged her along before she had a chance to correct him on who her company at the world cup was. But Mimosa didn't mind, once again too excited to see all her housemates after three months. Karan had been right, the Slytherins had indeed taken over one of the compartments, and it was full to bursting.

"Squid Boy! Catherine! Maria! Charles! Stacey! Emily! Constance! Ji Hyun! How've you guys been?" the chatter started anew before everyone turned on Karan and his failed quest to get treats which seemed like a good point to reveal the sweets Mimosa had brought along, making the compartment cheer loudly. Boxes of french pastries, Indian laddoos and every flavor beans were opened and passed around as everyone tried to find a seat. In the end, Constance ended up siting on Charles' lap and Mimosa, following suit, settled on Squid Boy's. Karan was forced to charm a cushion on the train floor but insisted eh was comfortable.

"Maria, toast! someone called out, probably Ji Hyun as the Captain opened her can of soda. Every obliging, the seventh year witch raised her can up high.

"To Slytherins! And to another year of kicking Ravenclaw butt!"

PostSubject: Re: Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students)   Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students) EmptyWed Jul 10, 2019 7:28 am

Summer had been quite the whirlwind for the youngest Kessler. The Quidditch World Cup had been even more exciting than he could possibly have imagined, the week long stay in Italy proving to be the best week in the boy's life. For a time, Nikolai had forgotten to be mad with his dad's decision to stay at his friend's house and not at the camping site of the QWC, because they could frequent the place as much as they wanted, only returning in the evening to get a comfortable sleep in a comfortable bed, with air conditioning battling against the heat of the Italian Summer.

Of course, Andrei Kessler didn't stay off the hook for long when the already great tickets his dad had obtained were downright thwarted by the invitation from Mimosa to go to the Final with her. Where he'd thought the box tickets he'd had for the previous games was good, sitting beside Mimosa in the box with all the most important people there, and the best view of the pitch... Nikolai had realised his dad hadn't done as well as he'd first thought.

It was hard to be mad for long when you got to experience Quidditch in the best manner, but reflecting afterwards, Nikolai had stewed for some time on the subject. Mimosa got everything, and he did not, the constant question of why someone so stupid got to be part of the Clement family and he didn't continued on to no avail.

Work commenced once more, and Nikolai forgot about it all, though, immersing himself in his reading of Squids, Lake Habitats, and the knowledge of the Giant Squid that was present in any and all textbooks he could lay his hands on. The summer reading from his dad had interrupted only briefly, and then a new magazine had been found in his bosses' drawer which had been sequestered away by the fourteen year old for quiet moments of the day.

The peace never seemed to extend for long, which Nikolai had come to expect, and the peace was broken with the invite to Mimosa's birthday party. He'd considered saying no for all of two minutes, in which time a text had come in to the boys' group chat, asking who had received invites to the Palace of Versailles. Not wishing to leave Mimosa to Ji Hyun's will, Nikolai had responded to say he would be there, of course.

The Palace had been yet another mistake. As Nikolai's mum had dropped him off at the front gates, he couldn't help but gape at the place. It was bigger than Hogwarts... Nikolai was sure of that much, and much more grand than their school could ever be. The manner in which he was dressed -- albeit the smartest clothes his mum could find given his recent growth spurt -- made Nikolai feel vastly small in that moment, but he pushed the feeling away as his mum asked him to let her know as soon as he was ready to come home so that she could get Helen to come and get him. Nikolai had agreed, succumbing to the hug from his mum before heading towards the Palace.

The boy had been stopped not two foot from the gates, the two guards asking him his purpose. Nikolai had produced the invitation he'd been given by Mimosa which had been checked thoroughly to a long list. He'd had to surrender his phone to them, because you weren't allowed phones in the grounds of the Palace, and only then had he been shown in to the Palace, taken from one place to another, until finally he'd been brought to Mimosa. A Mimosa that was, as she always was, doting on her Jacques and barely noticing him as he took in the Palace from the safe distance behind Mimosa.

Mimosa's party had been grand beyond measure. Disgustingly expensive, overly colourful, and with an abundance of presents. Nikolai had passed a room (after getting lost when trying to find the bathroom in this monstrosity of a place) which had a pile of presents stacked to almost four time his height. A passing servant, or butler, or... something, had found the boy staring at them all, and had asked if he was okay.

"Who's presents are all of those?" Nikolai had asked, not pulling his eyes from the mountain before him.

"They're Lady Mimosa's, sir." Had been the reply. "From her friends all around the world."

Nikolai had barely been able to take all that in as the man beside him ushered him back to the party, where his mood only dampened upon seeing Mimosa and Jacques cutting her birthday cake together, the future Lord Clement picking up the slice they had cut and offering it to Mimosa to take a bite from. The boy had turned away and moved off towards something else to do in the maze of activities available, feeling thoroughly annoyed in saying yes. Ji Hyun would never have gotten close to Mimosa whilst her Jacques was around, and thinking otherwise had been stupid on his part.

The holidays had been subdued since then.

Nikolai didn't know how to pick himself back up from that point, and he hadn't worked too much harder in trying. Work and reading did enough to keep him occupied for the most part, but still he couldn't shift the jealous feeling that remained inside him.

The train had been a blur when he'd entered Kings Cross with Helen. His sister constantly fussing over him as she made her way through the crowd. Had he remembered this? Had he remembered that? Don't forget to write to mum, or she'll get upset. Just text her, letters were for old people. All the way, Nikolai had started to tune most of it out, in truth, but it was the last part, before the goodbye that had resonated.

"... don't forget to be safe in everything you do this year. You're getting to that stage, don't look at me weirdly, Nik, just be safe." Helen had insisted, before pulling him in to a tight hug and kissing his cheek. "See you at Christmas!"

Nikolai had been left speechless as his sister turned on her heel and headed back the way they'd came, barely allowing Nikolai time to reply to anything she'd said. For a moment, the boy smiled to himself, his sister really was a weird one, before turning to pull his case on to the train. It didn't take long to find the Slytherin compartment, and after hauling his case up on to the luggage tray, Nikolai had taken his seat by the window, joining in the conversation that was -- mercifully -- not including Mimosa. Five minutes later, the nibbles were creeping in, and they'd sent Karan off to try find the trolley early. Talk had been easy, so, so easy, as everyone caught up with their respective summers.

But, easy never lasted long.

"Squid Boy! Catherine! Maria! Charles! Stacey! Emily! Constance! Ji Hyun! How've you guys been?"

Nikolai's eyes found Mimosa in the very second his nickname had been mentioned, and the young witch looked... different. But... in a good way. Almost... grown up? The boy wasn't sure how to explain it, and wasn't really given a choice as Mimosa passed out all the sweets she'd brought with her from the journey, Nikolai's eyes not straying from her as she did. Seats were fast becoming a scarce resource, and Nikolai hadn't been ready for the choice of seat Mimosa would take in the very next moment.

Sitting upon his lap without question, the witch had caught Nikolai off guard, making him pause for a moment, wondering what to do. His eyes found Constance sitting atop Charles' lap in the same fashion, and the older boy had draped his arms around the witch's waist, hands rested together in the girl's lap in a sort-of-hug. Nikolai had followed suit, his arms holding the small witch in his lap close to him in that moment as conversation continued on all around him.

Was he comfortable? Not really, Mimosa's slender frame might not be heavy by any stretch of the imagination, but she wasn't quite sat right in his mind. The witch didn't seem to pay attention, though, and Nikolai left it unspoken, instead listening to the conversations going on around them in the compartment, chipping in where he needed to, and...

The smell of citrus kept tickling the boy's senses when Mimosa moved her head. It wasn't strong, just the subtle undertones of the smell. The boy couldn't work out which citrus fruit it was, a fact that was almost as frustrating as his summer had been. Was it oranges, or lemons? Limes? Or maybe even grapefruit? Nikolai was trying each time the smell was wafted his way, but to little avail, all he knew was that he... liked that smell, more than he cared to admit.

The Quidditch team had toasted a while ago now, but Nikolai's mind was elsewhere, not really caring for the mundane chatter of his classmates as the countryside flew past.

Summer had been quite wonderful for Apollonia that year as the witch had finally been able to head to Greece to both visit the country and its islands but she was also able to see the beautiful villa that her family held for generations since way before. As she travelled from one island to the other, from one city to another, she took hundreds of pictures to share with her friends but she also took some more personal ones to send to Nikolai whom she had made a promise to do so. There weren't many she sent him but there was a good hundred or so that was shared to the younger Slytherin and while she didn't receive much back, she had gotten the odd message or two from the younger male.

The visit to the Leandros villa, though, had been the highlight of her trip to Greece. Rhodes more specifically as that was where the villa had been situated, hidden behind wards with enough house-elves to make sure the place stayed habitable in case anyone wished to move back to it in the future. Most of her time had spent in the Leandros library, reading through any and all books that she could get her hands on and actually understand. Understandably, there hadn't been a lot as her Greek was still a bit rusty and truthfully, she did not have the time to learn it but she had made a promise to the portraits of her ancestors that she would learn the language and she would come back the following year to learn even more.

When the time to head to the Quidditch World Cup came, Apollonia was bid farewell with teary smiles from the house-elves that had come to call her 'Mistress Loni' within the few days that she had spent at the villa. The QWC proved to be another successful trip for the witch as that had been where she had been able to finally see her siblings after a few weeks of being on her own, not to mention that she had the chance to watch the games in real instead of just listening to the commentary over the Wizarding radio.

When July finally turned to August, there was one thing that Apollonia had been looking forward to the most and that was her sixteenth birthday. Which had been celebrated with little fanfare, only her siblings and their families had celebrated it with her - her parents, once again, missing their daughters birthday. The thought hadn't stung as much as it had in previous years, the witch had grown accustomed to not having her parents around.

As the summer finally grew to a close, Apollonia bid goodbye to Damon, promising him to write at least once a fortnight before the sixth year Slytherin stepped onto the train, eyes sparkling and lips curled into a satisfied smirk as she travelled the length of the train to find her friends only to come to a stop when she heard the unmistakable voice of Mimosa Harrington and her pose of friends, clearly they were all having fun.

Knocking on the compartment door, Apollonia slid it open and leant against the doorway, head tilted just a bit as she eyed the countless of couples scattered around the compartment that shouldn't have been able to fit as many students as it did but clearly the expansion charms on the compartment held true and even the entire Quidditch team had fit.

"I see you all seem to have had a fun summer holiday." Apollonia's voice cut through the loudness of the compartment. "Got room for one more?"

"Ummm, never have I ever shown up to class tipsy," Maria spoke out loud after a moment of deliberation to which Karan blatantly called out "Liar!"

"I really haven't, Maria insisted with a laugh, the soda she'd been sipping was clearly making her happy. Mimosa didn't remember exactly when but after the sweets trolley had been flagged down and everyone else had poured in their contribution, Charles had suggested a rousing game of Never Have I Ever, a game Mimosa knew of very well because it was as American as apple pie. So she had taken it upon herself to educate those who did not.

Settling herself comfortably in Squid Boy's lap, the girl had squealed through the rules and norms of the game before opting to start herself. However, the group had run into its first problem when Maria had pointed out that some of them were too young to be sipping the special sodas she was. This had led to Ji Hyun providing an adequate solution of separating the yucky flavored Bertie Bott's Beans to reserve for those who couldn't have her soda. Right now, Maria, Karan, Charles and Emily were the only ones nursing cans while a heap of green, brown and red beans were piled high in a jar which enchanted to levitate towards everyone who had done the thing the speaker had not.

"I never go anywhere tipsy," Mimosa announced, avoiding the jar that flew her way. "I trained in ballet, we have perfect balance." the entire compartment let out a laugh as Karan and Emily took a drink. The only person in that round who took a Bean was Stacey.  the entire compartment turning as one at the redhead who simply nodded.

"I didn't know it was alcohol, I drank half a mug before I realized. And it was only history, Binns was teachings and he never notices anything."

"Okay Squid Boy's up next," Ji Hyun called out but before the taller Slytherin could proceed, the compartment door opened to reveal one of Mimosas' favorite people at Hogwarts.

"Got room for one more?"

"Loni!!!" The young brunette squealed, scooting back into Squid Boy's lap in her excitement and looking up at the older girl. "Oh Am Gee, I missed you so much over the summer! You should have come to my birthday party!"

"Apollonia, what a tan!" Catherine breathed, taking in the girl's darkened features. The redhead must have spent the summer somewhere warm. "And I love your outfit!"

"You can come share my bit of floor," Karan offered with a wink only for Ji Hun to object loudly. In the end, Catherine vacated her seat in favor of Ji Hyun's lap, leaving Loni to squeeze between Maria to the right and Charles and Constance to the left.

"We were just in the middle of Never Have I ever, wanna join?" Charles asked cheekily, almost leering at the redhead. "We have vodka or the kiddies' candy, whichever one you prefer."

The redheaded witch let out a soft chuckle when Mimosa squealed, eyes softly watching the pretty brunette seated upon Nikolai's lap, her face beaming. "I missed you over the summer as well Mimosa, I apologize for not being able to attend your birthday party." It wasn't like she hadn't wanted to go but with her birthday only days after Mimosa's it wasn't a good idea to travel from one place to another. "My own was six days after yours and I wanted to spend some time with my siblings. Speaking of your birthday," The Slytherin dug into her bag and pulled out a nondescript box before handing it over to Mimosa. "I know it's a bit late but Happy Thirteenth Birthday Mimosa."

It had taken Apollonia a while to find something for Mimosa as no matter where she looked whatever she did find just didn't seem to fit Mimosa's image. There had been a beautiful set with peridot jewels but Apollonia had instantly dismissed it as she knew that Mimosa would not wear it for it just wasn't her style. Eventually, the young witch had decided to just browse through the muggle shopping districts and sure enough, within literal moments Apollonia had found the perfect present for Mimosa.

"Thanks, Catherine, I did spend two weeks in Greece so I better be tanned." And what an amazing two weeks it had been, apart from her visiting and touring all the major landmarks, Apollonia had spent most of her time tanning either at the beach or by the pool, depending on where she was in Greece.

Giving Karan a saucy smirk, the witch replied. "Thanks for the offer but no." As soon as Catherine moved from her seat to Ji Hyun's lap, Apollonia gratefully squeezed herself between Maria and Charles. Wiggling about slightly, the witch settled herself down and stashed her bag under the seat before turning her attention once more to the group of people in the compartment.

"Vodka." The witch leered back, eyes challenging the male beside her. "Let's see who gets drunk first, Beaumont."

PostSubject: Re: Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students)   Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students) EmptyTue Jul 16, 2019 6:12 pm

Nikolai would have been content with sitting quietly in any other compartment in the train, a book in hand and perhaps Mariah for company. Sitting in an overcrowded compartment with way too many people, and Mimosa perched on his lap in a skirt that did much too much for him, and then having to partake in the stupid game of Never Have I Ever was definitely not something Nikolai was appeased by.

But, given that he wished to keep Ji Hyun from the current position he found himself, it was something he would have to live with.

The first few rounds had proven to not be any fun. Nikolai hadn't really done half the things that had been thrown out by the older Slytherins in the compartment, and Mimosa kept moving in his lap in her excitement. The notion of the girl sitting still was never going to come in to fruition, though, so Nikolai tried his very best to ignore the movements... to little success.

It was as Apollonia entered their compartment that Nikolai was given a little bit of a welcomed distraction from everything in the compartment. The redhead had unusually tanned skin for someone of her complexion, but... he had to remember she was Greek, and though the combination of tanned skin and ginger hair looked thoroughly out of place, it made a little bit of sense to him. As everyone moved to greet her, compliment her and accommodate her, Nikolai simply offered the older witch a small smile of welcome before looking out of the compartment and the countryside flying past them.

Or, he would have, had Mimosa not edged back in to him a little more, pressing back in to him and making his eyes close for a moment to try to conjure up some self-control. Or, more likely in this case, pray to every deity he was aware of that the younger witch would not notice how much she affected him, and blurt it out to the whole compartment as if it were a normal conversation point.

"Squid Boy, your go!" Charles reminded him only a moment later, though, and Nikolai opened his eyes, looking back around to the group and thinking.

"Uh... Never have I ever... seen a dragon in real life." The boy finished, not even bothering to look to see who had had such luck in their lives. Undoubtedly Mimosa would make one of her usual, stupid remarks, but Nikolai wasn't interested in trying to keep up with conversation.

"Ooh thank you so much!" Mimosa replied as the redhead gave her the belated birthday present. "And I have one for you too though the palace sent it directly to Hogwarts," she explained, making sure Loni knew she hadn't forgotten about her. In truth, someone at the palace was in charge of remembering everyone's birthday's for Mimosa so the witch could pick out adequate presents in time for the occasion. She had a feeling Squid Boy's birthday was also coming soon, maybe in December? Or October?

When the Greecian witch had squeezed herself in, the game began anew, this time with Squid Boy picking the thing he had never done. When he finally managed a thing, Mimosa spoke up indignantly, shaking ehr head which made her hair tumble backwards, tickling the older male's nose.

"That's because dragons aren't real," she proclaimed which spurred a rousing debate, much of which the young brunette did not hear. In the end, quite a few people were forced to take a drink or pick a sweet.

After Squid Boy, it was Emily's turn, who started the session with a wicked grin on her face. "Never have I ever spoken to Jacques Clement."

Almost the entire unit of girls in the compartment groaned, each taking a sip of picking up a disgusting flavored bean. Mimosa herself picked a bean carefully, making a face as she squirmed where she sat before closing her eyes and popping it into her mouth.

It didn't taste disgusting though. Just her luck that amongst the earwax, bogey, chilli and blood flavors, she had gotten caramel. But of course, she was Mimosa Harrington, luck simply followed her around. "Mmm yummy," the witch sighed happily, leaning back into Squid By as she sucked on the bean happily.

"Let Loni go next," Karan encouraged from the floor, his soda can spiked with Vodka almost half empty at this point. "New entry privileges, come on, make them all drink!"

As one, the compartment turned to Apollonia, waiting for what she would say.

She hadn't actually expected a present of her own from the young Slytherin but she was quite happy about it, even though she'd have to wait till she got to Hogwarts to collect it. "Thank you Mimosa." She gifted the younger female a soft smile even as she took a sip of her Vodka after Nikolai's 'Never Have I Ever'.

She had been eight when she had seen a dragon with her eyes and even then it was actually quite far away so she hadn't been able to touch one; Damon had been invited by a friend of his to join him at the Dragon Reserve for a birthday party and since the man couldn't exactly leave Apollonia alone she had been taken and that led her to her meeting her first dragon. She hadn't forgotten the beautiful Iron Belly that she had seen.

"Never have I ever spoken to Jacques Clement."

She groaned, along with most of the girls in the compartment after Emily spoke up; it had only been in first year that she had spoken to the Clement Heir but it had still been a conversation, even if the older male had indulged her and the other girls that had been with her at the time.

Really, at this rate she'd be the one walking out of the compartment tipsy however when it was her turn, Apollonia deliberated for a while before she spoke up. "Never have I ever seen the Clement Palace." And she hadn't. Oh she knew where it was and she knew the general area of the place but she had never stepped foot onto the grounds of the Palace.

Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students)   Citrus-y (open to all Hogwarts students) EmptyTue Jul 16, 2019 7:50 pm

Nikolai had heard Mimosa's usual, stupid comment about dragons not being real, and then he'd switched off from the rest of the talk centring his pick of Never Have I Ever. It wasn't exactly an exciting choice, they were wizards, and a number of the people in the compartment came from enough money for it to happen. To him, it was just a dream he hoped to fill in his university career, so long as the course options didn't change too drastically in the next few years.

The next question was stupid, centring around a subject that was boring as anything else. Of course, it meant pretty much everyone in the compartment had to eat or drink, and as Mimosa leaned in to collect a bean from the passing tray, Nikolai contained the small grimace that he felt as she pressed a little too much weight in to his leg, the boney structure of her legs not making it comfortable. Collecting his own bean, Nikolai was greeted with the taste of flaming chillies which left his eyes watering just a little bit.

As the point turned to Apollonia, Nikolai had been hopeful for her additions to the conversation, but he was similarly disappointed as she chose the topic of the Clements once more. Once more, Nikolai had to pick from the tray of sweets, but the boy did not elaborate that he had stayed during the summer. His choice of a yellow bean had, once more, turned in to one of a mistake as he got a vomit flavour bean.

"Gross!" Nikolai commented, gagging slightly. "Vomit..."

"Swallow it!" Ji Hyun replied, the rest of the compartment responding in much the similar manner, leaving Nikolai to forcefully swallow the bean that left tears in his eyes with the effort that came with not throwing up all over Mimosa in response to the disgusting flavoured bean.

Once everyone was satisfied Nikolai had swallowed his bean, Maria spoke up. "Never have I ever had any kind of romantic foray in the Quidditch Changing Rooms -- ours or any other teams!" She offered, waiting to catch out her own team members.

Nikolai was safe on that one, and didn't care to know who'd done what, either, instead reaching for a pack of gummy worms to get rid of the taste of sick in his mouth.

"Never have I ever kissed a member of the same sex!" Ji Hyun offered next, which did pique Nikolai's interest as he took in who had done so. Why he was curious, he couldn't be sure, but he had checked nonetheless.

It fell to his turn once more, though, and Nikolai contemplated for a moment.

"Never have I ever befriended a Gryffindor." The boy stated proudly, which brought forth something of a proud admiration from some of the Slytherins, and he knew he had bested Mimosa on that one.

The summer had been eventful, to say the least. The Quidditch World Cup had been spectacular, even if Mercy had been disappointed by the end result. Ireland had at least made it to the final match, and Mercy had actually gotten to meet - and take photos with - Fiona MacNamara (whom Mercy firmly believed was the greatest seeker in the world, no matter what had happened in the Malaysia game). That weird chant the crowd did when the Malaysian seeker dove had to be some kind of cheating.

Still, Mercy wasn't super bitter about the outcome. She actually really liked the Malaysian team, considering they were the first all female team to compete in the World Cup and they'd taken it by storm. The only thing she wasn't happy about was that Squid Boy had bet money on them - and won. As if Squid Boy hadn't won enough already.

Other than that, the entire trip to Italy had been fantastic. Well, maybe not the entire trip. Spending time with Mimosa had been a priority, but it seemed everyone else had the same goal - the younger witch was never left alone. Her Austrian friends, the Zeverais, had been particularly annoying (not that she would say as much to Mimosa - they were her friends, after all, and Mercy didn't want to hurt her feelings). Something about them just rubbed her the wrong way was all. The way they spoke to her like she didn't belong in their group, talking about things that went straight over her head - like they knew she didn't understand and they took pleasure in watching her struggle to keep up - it made her angry, but she shoved it down for Mimosa's sake. She was grateful Mimosa hadn't turned out like that. She was rich too, and sometimes she said and did things that were alien to Mercy, but she didn't let it go to her head like her friends did.

Jaime especially irritated her with the way he kept trying to get Mimosa's attention. And the way his sister kept making comments about how cute they were together. It wasn't cute at all - it was embarrassing. Mimosa clearly wasn't interested (or at the very least, oblivious), a fact in which Mercy took some pleasure. She was grateful when they finally ditched the pair.

Only to be replaced by Squid Boy, who was, if possible, even worse. He'd come to their booth for the final match, and Mercy had done her very best to ignore him entirely. She had nothing nice to say, after all, and her mam always told her that meant she should say nothing at all. Just seeing him and Mimosa in such close proximity made her bristle, however, as she remembered the scene they'd made at the end of the year. She still hadn't really talked about it with Mimosa. She wasn't sure how to bring it up. But if Mimosa had enjoyed kissing him, surely she would have mentioned it?

That's what she told herself anyway, as she adamantly stood between the two of them, hand securely tangled with Mimosa's to prevent the pair from getting too close. Thankfully, the match provided an adequate distraction for all of them, and even though Squid Boy's team won, he took his obnoxious self away to celebrate without Mimosa's help. If he'd made a move, Mercy thought she might have punched him then and there.

But they parted ways with him too, and at last they spent the end of the trip in relative peace and comfort. Except for the waxing moon, which always seemed to have the worst possible timing. By their final day in Italy, Mercy was feeling sluggish and fatigued, her appetite diminished and her head spinning. And yet, Mimosa begged her to come to France, just for a day, to attend the Clements' anniversary party.

She wanted to say no. She should have said no. She did say no at first, but Mimosa pouted, and "No" quickly shifted to "Maybe," at which point the cause was lost and "Maybe" turned to "Alright, sure."

What could she say? They'd barely had any time alone together the entire trip, and a private jet ride to Versailles with just her and Mimosa sounded amazing even when she felt like she'd just been thrown off a broom. So she went.

The plane ride actually was pretty great, but it went downhill from there. The anniversary party was one day away from the full moon, and Mercy found it difficult to even stand for long periods of time. By the time she managed to slip away from the party, sneaking into the bathroom to chug the potion her mam had sent with her, she was feeling downright miserable. The only reason she'd come was to spend time with Mimosa, but the younger witch had yet again been swept away by multitudes of adoring strangers. Mercy couldn't even dance with her in this state, and if she had to watch one more boy spin her around on the dance floor, she thought she might throw up.

Well, she might throw up anyway, come to think of it.

So she had pulled Mimosa aside at the earliest possible convenience, and explained that she really wasn't feeling well and probably ought to go home. An understatement if there ever was one - she really shouldn't have come in the first place. But she could never seem to say no when Mimosa was the one asking.

Fortunately, Mercy made it home without too much trouble, and she spent the day in bed before undergoing the usual transition process. By the time she was feeling better again, it was almost Mimosa's birthday.

She'd been invited, of course. And she did want to go, at first, until her mam reminded her what a fiasco the last party had been. Would she really even get to talk to Mimosa if she went? She had so many friends vying for her attention at any given moment. Mercy would probably just end up miserable again, watching Mimosa from afar. And besides, she spent the better part of the year attached at the hip to the young Slytherin, wouldn't it be nice to do something as a family for once?

She really needed to practice saying no, anyway. At least it was easier over text than it was in person.

Of course, as soon as she said it, Mercy regretted it. She so badly wanted to be there, if only because she didn't want to miss out. As the day of the party approached, Mercy moped, fidgeting with her phone as she felt tempted to change her mind, to text Mimosa back and say she could come after all. Even though her mam had technically forbidden her from doing so.

In the end, Mercy's mam won out by surprising Mercy with an impromptu camping trip - somewhere far outside of town with no signal. And after the first day, Mercy actually started enjoying herself, forgetting momentarily about the party she was missing. She could actually have fun with her family for once and not think about all the drama with Mimosa and Squid Boy and the rest of their classmates. It was...weirdly liberating.

At least for the four days they were gone. Then they returned home and Mercy got to scroll through hundreds of photos of the party on social media because apparently everyone she knew had been there. Apparently it had been India themed.

Well, at least she could console herself with one thought: she had actually been with Mimosa in India, and that was way cooler than going to some party, right?

She didn't see Mimosa for the rest of the summer, though they remained in constant communication over text. The latter half of August passed by quietly. Mercy took one trip down to Diagon Alley to get her new books, and the rest of the month was spent at home.

She was spending more time in her room lately, talking to friends on her phone. That seemed to be where all the action was. Her parents occasionally lured her out to do things - getting lunch, seeing a movie, playing games - but for the most part, hanging out with them just wasn't as interesting as whatever her friends were doing. Some days, she only came out of her room when she was hungry.

And today, she'd accidentally overslept. She swore to herself as she scrambled out of bed, tripping over her packed trunk and grabbing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt from her closet as she heard her dad's voice calling her name from the bottom of the stairs.

"Coming!" she hollered back, tugging her clothes on and thundering toward the bathroom to comb her hair and brush her teeth. She rushed back to her room, tugged some mismatched socks onto her feet and shoved her trainers on, stuffing her comb and toothbrush into a side pocket in her trunk. She couldn't believe she'd slept through her alarm on the first day of school. She glanced at her watch, grabbed her trunk, and hauled it down the stairs to where her parents stood waiting.

"Ready?" her mam asked. Mercy nodded. "We're going to need to apparate or you'll miss the train. You're sure you've got everything?"

"I'm sure." Mercy quickly hugged her dad goodbye. "Love you. See you at Christmas."

"Love you too, a thaisce."

Mercy grabbed her trunk with one hand, and her mam's arm with the other, bracing herself for the unpleasant pull of sidelong apparition. With a snap, the pair appeared on the platform, just as the Hogwarts Express let out a warning whistle. Most of the students were already on board.

She hugged her mam as well, then hurried off to the train, shoving her trunk ahead of her and climbing aboard. She wandered down the corridor, scanning the compartments for any of her friends. Eventually, she reached the back of the train, finding a mostly empty compartment. A girl around her own age sat in the corner, writing in a journal. Mercy vaguely recognized her as one of the new transfer students from last year. A Hufflepuff who sometimes hung out with Squid Boy. Mercy glanced back down the corridor, then sighed and poked her head through the door.

"Hey," she said. The girl looked up, a little startled. "Is it okay if I leave my stuff in here? Everywhere else is full."

"Oh, um, sure. Go right ahead," the girl replied with a soft smile.

"Thanks," Mercy said shortly, shoving her trunk beneath a seat. She didn't look back at the girl as she left, walking back down the corridor and pulling out her phone.

Hey, just got on the train. Where r u?

She sent the first text to Mimosa. When there was no immediate reply, she sent a variation of the same message to Janine.

Team compartment. Near the front, on the left, came her fellow Chaser's response. Mercy hurried down the hall just as the train began the move, eventually reaching the right compartment and sliding open the door.

The whole of last year's Gryffindor team (minus the ones who had graduated) greeted her cheerily, and Janine slid over and patted the seat beside her. Mercy grinned, plopping down in the midst of her friends, most of whom she hadn't seen since May.

It was good to be back.
