Student life at Hogwarts & Beyond is the best way to integrate yourself into the RP world! You have the chance to meet a multitude of characters and engage in a variety of experiences that you may not necessarily be able to in the wider world! There are classes to attend, the House Cup to contend for, the Quidditch Cup to compete for, and of course, the whole castle (and grounds) to explore!
To allow all of our students to develop fully, we have opted for the following to help you along the way:
1. ClassesWe know that writing in classes is not always the most interesting part of an RP, thus we have done our best to allow as much freedom in an RP setting as we can, whilst also keeping a structure to make it clear how students can graduate from Hogwarts.
The school year is split in to three terms-- fall, winter and spring -- and the classes last for a month and a half in real time, which will give ample opportunity for you to RP. Each term, a student must take at least one class to graduate at the end of the year (giving a total of three classes). Each term, there will be five classes on offer to you. Whether you choose to participate in one, or all of the classes is up to you!
Unlike the previous lessons though, we are now offering a new format to the classes!
At the start of the term, the Admin team will post the five lessons that are being offered, the professor who will be teaching said lessons, the lesson plans, and a brief overview of each lesson for you to work from, like this:
Subject: | Defence Against the Dark Arts |
Professor: | Jake Newbury |
Topic: | Boggarts |
Lesson Plan: | The students will first be asked a series of questions in relation to the known information of the class in relation to the creature. Once a general understanding of the creature is obtained, and the method of combating the creature has been explained, the students will be asked to step forward, one by one, to attempt to defeat the creature. Jake will be on hand to intervene should any student fail to deter the creature -- his Boggart is that of his children and sister in harms way. |
Mood: | The lesson is very upbeat, Jake in a surprisingly (yet the cause is unknown) good mood with all of his students. |
The class will then be down to each of you! The lesson will act as a prompt for you and others on site to get together and write -- because that's what we're here to do! Points will be awarded for the lessons on the following basis:
- If 1 person completes a (minimum of) three post thread in the lesson setting -- the lesson (and thread) must be complete --, they will be awarded 15 points.
- If 2 people complete a (minimum of) six post thread in the lesson setting -- the lesson (and thread) must be complete --, they will be awarded 30 points each.
- If 3 people complete a (minimum of) twelve post thread in the lesson setting -- the lesson (and thread) must be complete --, they will be awarded 60 points each.
- If 4 people complete a (minimum of) sixteen post thread in the lesson setting -- the lesson (and thread) must be complete --, they will be awarded 80 points each.
- If 5 people complete a (minimum of) twenty post thread in the lesson setting -- the lesson (and thread) must be complete --, they will be awarded 100 points each.
The limit for each class is 5 people per thread, and as you can see, the reward for such collaborations are much higher than working in a class alone. So if you can, try to get your house the win this way. Just keep in mind that all players/characters in a class thread must contribute equally for the points to be awarded ( i.e. a 20 post thread by five players must have four posts per player).
Each lesson thread must clearly state that it is a class, i.e. "CLASS: DADA Spring Term -- Nikolai & Mimosa" so that the admins can give house points to the students in attendance. In addition to this, at the end of each lesson, we will ask each student to link the completed lessons they have done each term as a reply to the lesson set up post.
Should you join the site late (i.e. after Fall or Winter Term) you will still be required to achieve your three classes. However, you will be expected to do this in the term you joined the site onwards. The admin team will keep a record of your student's sorting date and make allowances where necessary. If you have any questions, the admin team is always on hand to answer those as well.
Outstanding students may skip a grade given they attend twelve to fifteen classes in a year (at least four each term).
2. QuidditchOkay enough with the academic mumbo jumbo, let's get to the most fun part about studding at Hogwarts: Quidditch!
That's right, as a student, you are not only allowed but encouraged to participate in your House Quidditch team. Don't let the small number of students deter you for matches go on all year round no mater how many PCs are on a House team. To Join a House Quidditch team, you will need to fulfill a few basic requirements:
- Be a second year or above
- Write a one shot of at least 500 words detailing your tryout or the circumstances under which you were appointed to the team
- Keep an eye on match updates to integrate into your roleplay experience.
- In order to qualify for Captaincy of the team, you must have been on it for at least two years.
So if you're a second year or up student looking for a hobby, look no further. We hope to see you on the team!
3. Other OptionsSo, what are the prospects of a student at Hogwarts & Beyond? Well, you get a magical education! You are also given the freedom to form and head your own club provided you first obtain your school Head's permission.
You also get to go to wicked parties but you, of course, did not hear this from us.
Basically, being a student is the most fun part about being on Hogwarts & Beyond and if you aren't enrolled as one already, we hope you will be very soon. If you have any further inquires about being a student here, feel free to PM us and we will get back to you in a tick!
Sincerely
Hogwarts & Beyond Admins
