Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years)   Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years) - Page 2 EmptyFri Jun 12, 2015 2:32 pm

Alberi quietly read his Charms book while waiting for the class to begin. He wasn't interested in looking to see who would enter, actually. And besides, in his old school he always spent the recess reading a book, subject or not. He did not at all care for socializing with anyone, unless they grabbed his attention in some way. Though he knew that he would have to have some friend, at least someone to survive the seven years at this school with. But that might as well take some time.

He quickly looked up when the professor called it the beginning of class. He listened to what he said and was rather glad that they didn't need to go through what the spell does. It would be annoying to the boy, having to repeat something so simple. Overall he hated repeating things he already knew, yet in school it seems it was all that they do. It was as if the rest of his classmates couldn't remember what they should quick enough and the teacher had to keep saying it. Those were the only times Alberi would feel like going to sleep in class.

Deciding on what to talk about, the boy rose his hand and began to answer, as the teacher didn't say if they should stand up or not. "The Mending Charm was invented an Ministry of Magic employee, I believe her name was Orbella or Orabella Nuttley, around the year of 1754. She needed to repair the Colosseum after if had somehow been destroyed." he said. He remembered reading that it was an accident destroying the building but he didn't understand how something such could be put down accidentally so he left that out.

Felix watched as people entered the class, her eyes narrowed on the Gryffindor boy she'd had to give a swift kick to (litteraly) sit behind Finley, luckily it seemed Fin had a small gathering around him. Good, it was unlikely the idiot behind him would try anything while he had a group of friends around him.

Her stomach made a strange sound only moments before an apple and chocolate frog was put in front of her, making her jump in her seat and look up at the professor. Had she not been so hungry she would have found it a little unnerving, but he made a good point. Since she was easily distracted she'd probably make a mess of the spell she tried casting.

She looked around the class quickly before opening the chocolate frog, snatching it by the leg before it could hop away and took a bite out of it's head to keep it from making an escape. She'd have the apple after class.

While she tried to keep herself out of sight she looked over at the first year who answered the question, only half paying attention, the rest of her focus being on the professor.

He gave it some time, but only one boy answered his question. Waiting for a short while more, nothing else was sent his way and so he nodded towards the Gryffindor. "You are right. Five points to Gryffindor," he said, then motioned towards the objects on the table.

"The mending charm is a basic spell. It's not difficult at all. If you'll see on the board-" as he spoke, he gestured towards it, and didn't bother to look, knowing that the right wand movements and incantation was being written there. "-the spell is not a complicated one and the pattern even easier."

Codey picked up the basket of items. "Not only are you going to get a chance to try this spell, you are going to get the opportunity to break things, too. Now, please don't do this in other classes; the other professors would have my head if you started destroying items in order to practice the spell." He smirked to show he was kidding, and then continued. "The paper is the easiest; a small tear will do. The quill can be snapped in half and is the next level of difficulty. Lastly, the stab can be dropped on the table - not floor, please - and it will break into multiple pieces. It will be the hardest object here to mend. If you manage to mend this last one, you will get a special treat."

Looking around with a smile, he said, "If you have any questions, please ask. If not, go ahead, and have fun!"

PostSubject: Re: Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years)   Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years) - Page 2 EmptyWed Jun 17, 2015 3:29 pm

Finley had known the answer to the question the professor had asked, yet despite liking Professor Ellingston, he hadn't felt comfortable enough to give an answer. After last year's professor, Finley's confidence had taken a tumble, and the Charms classroom did make him a little nervous.

Rightly or wrongly, he still didn't know.

When the Gryffindor who'd knocked himself out in Care of Magical Creatures spoke, Finley looked towards him. It was the first time he'd heard the boy speak, Finley thought, and the attitude wasn't one he liked. An indifference to magic... Finley made the assumption that the boy was Pureblood, that was the only logical explanation.

Turning back to the Professor as he spoke, Finley paled when the professor emphasised just how easy this was. Finley could feel the dread building inside him, knowing he was going to fail something the professor thought easy. Casting his gaze to the items before him, Finley took out the piece of paper and tore it down the middle as they had been instructed.

Behind him, Finley felt a small kick to the back of his chair, and he remembered that he not only had the professor's eyes on him, but also Nirek's. Taking what was supposed to be a steadying breath, Finley lifted his wand, and checked the board once more.

Following the wand movement perfectly, Finley thought about what he wanted to do, and then spoke. "R-Reparo!" He tried, but nothing really happened. Leaning down to check the tear, Finley confirmed what he already knew. Nothing. Casting a sideways glance to Naomi, and then checking the Professor wasn't watching, Finley tried again.

"R-Reparo."

Nothing.

Letting out a sigh, Finley sat back, thinking to himself. Nothing seemed to be wrong...

Sitting up straighter, Finley tried again, raising his voice a little, and trying to sound confident (which he was not in the slightest." "Re-Reparo!"

Nothing.

PostSubject: Re: Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years)   Charms Lesson 2 (First to Fourth years) - Page 2 EmptyWed Jun 17, 2015 3:44 pm

Nobody asked any questions so far, and so Codey sat himself on his desk, keeping an eye on everyone as they began the spells. A Ravenclaw he had made a note to keep an eye on was among the first to attempt it, and Codey made sure to watch carefully. From what he had heard from his colleagues, the boy was not good at magic. While some attributed it to his blood purity, Codey had dismissed that idea entirely. Being muggleborn had absolutely nothing to do with the skill level - he of all people would know; Aria was brilliant, and one, after all.

Making sure to listen and observe very carefully - without making it seem as though he was, so that he didn't scare the boy - Codey pretended to look at something else. Creasing his eyebrows slightly, he mulled over it the first two times the spell failed. The movement was perfect - exactly as it was drawn - and his intonation wasn't off, either. Sometimes it was due to people placing a stress on the wrong syllabus, but this wasn't the case with Finley.

In fact, everything Codey saw told him the spell should have been more than successful; Finley should have, by right, been able to repair even a broken slab. It was a very good try at the spell. But why wasn't it working?

Could it be the wand? he asked himself, turning his head to get a better look at it. Nothing seemed to be broken, and it appeared to be in perfect condition. What other angles are there? he thought, as he normally did whenever he was faced with something he couldn't solve - to look for different perspectives.

"Re-Reparo!"

It hit him there and then, and if he had been alone - or with Aria, or Adrienne - he would have cried out loud at the sheer stupidity. He should have realized it sooner. "But of course," he murmured to himself as he explored this new possibility, running it through the most vigorous of tests to ensure it was a solid one.

It was.

But there was one more question - how to solve said problem? He spent another few seconds thinking about it before an answer provided itself in the form of the lesson he was teaching the older years. It was not going to be easy, but he was quite confidant that the Ravenclaw would be able to do it.

Standing up, he moved to Finley, and, with an encouraging smile, said quietly, so that nobody else could hear his words, "If I may, Finley, I think I know why it isn't working." He paused, and lowered his tone even more for double security. "If you'll see me after class, I'll explain. I believe I will be able to help you. For now, you may stop if you wish."

Mason had been here the entire time.

He loved Charms, it was a great class, you could use simple spells to do the coolest things. And, trying to stay humble, he was probably one of the best in his year at Charms. Four years- well, three and a half- of Charms was great time spent. He would frequently try out these spells when he was in the Hufflepuff Common Room. Not on other people, of course. He adjusted his glasses. His throat was aching today, so he wasn't talking much this class, which may have been a surprise- he answered questions quite frequently in Charms class. Since he couldn't speak up, he just followed along to what the professor, Professor Ellingston, was saying. Mason got out his wand.

The paper was easy, and the quill wasn't too hard. He couldn't mend this dang stab. "Come on," he croaked, "Reparo!" He tried about six more times, and finally got it. "I did it!" he said as loud as his voice would let him. He smiled wide.

After the third attempt, Finley ran his hand through his hair in frustration. He knew the spell was basic, and that was what was increasingly stressful for him. Out of the corner of his eye he could see some student sailing through the activities. Which meant he missed the arrival of the oncoming Professor Ellingston.

"If I may, Finley, I think I know why it isn't working."

Jumping more than a little bit, Finley looked up at the professor, an apology already on his lips. Apologising, Finley found, meant that the professors seemed to back off a little, but the professor was already continuing with the notion Finley should stay behind.

Not saying a word, Finley nodded to show he understood, before placing his wand down on the table. His heart was pounding, wondering what the professor was going to say once the rest of the class was gone. Perhaps he was in trouble? Maybe he was getting kicked out of the class.

Looking down at his hands, Finley waited for the lesson to end.

Naomi kept one eye on Finley as she moved from the paper to the quill and some minutes later onto the slab. Just as she was getting individual shards of the slab to twitch towards each other, she caught sight of Professor Ellingston moving towards them. She was about to nudge Finley in warning, but the man was already on top of them and speaking.

Listening quietly to the exchange caused her spell work to suffer, but Naomi didn't mind. It was only an attempt or two anyway. Besides, it took a lot of concentration to catch the professor's low voice. If she hand't been sitting on the side Ellingston chose to stand on, she was sure she wouldn't have heard it at all.

When he left to oversee other students, Naomi leaned over to whisper to Finley, as quietly as the professor a moment before, "Don't get that look on your face. He didn't sound mad. This one doesn't seem crazy; I think he actually wants to help you. I'll wait outside for you, or even with you in the room if you want and it's allowed."

When Naomi spoke to him, Finley looked up, slightly abashed at his actions. "Sorry." He replied to his best friend, pushing a small smile on to his features.

It was then that he noted her progress, and despite his own capabilities, Finley was quite proud of Naomi. Yes, he got jealous of her sometimes, because she could outdo him in a lot of things, but that didn't stop him from being happy for her. "Y-you did good." Finley told his best friend, motioning to the two things she'd already repaired successfully.

"I'll be o-okay. Y-you don't need t-to stay." Finley added a moment later, remembering the question. He didn't know how long Professor Ellingston was going to keep him, and he didn't want Naomi to be bored. "I'll m-meet you back in t-the tower." He insisted, before motioning to Naomi's slab.

"I t-think you can d-do this." He insisted, because reassurance had always been lacking in his life, and people deserved it.

Alberi listened to what the professor said and frowned. They had to purposely break things? He would prefer that they were already broken, for he felt rather foolish cutting the paper just to put it back again and he wasn't in the mood of breaking stabs. Then again, he most likely never would be in the mood to break anything. Though with his lack of coordination, it may happen often. In fact, it happens often. He may be very well developed with his brain but in any area about that he was awful - running, swimming, sports, walking trough crowds...

After practicing the wand movement for a while he commenced to the paper and rip it while successfully trying not to cut himself. "Reparo!" he said, waving his wand. The paper did move but slightly and went back to being cut. He sighed and tried again, thinking about the paper colliding together. "Reparo!" he said and watched as the paper repaired itself.

Satisfied, he moved on to the next object, the quill. Quickly breaking it in two, he thought over how to continue. Looking at the quill, he closed his eyes and spent a minuet over thinking over how both pieces would stick back together back into the quill it was before. After that he repeated the spell with the proper movement, while keeping the thought in his head, and watched as the two pieces stuck together.

With a slightly smile he went onto the last and final object, the stab. Alberi really wished he knew how to break things with magic and he was sure he couldn't point his hand at the block and just say 'Ha-di'. He hoped that the stab would break if he just picked it up and put it down from hardly any kind of height but sadly all it let out was a small 'thump'. With a sigh, he let it fall from a height he knew it would break.

Afterwards he attempted to do the same as he did with the quill. At first nothing happened. He tried a few more times. Again, nothing. Soon enough, though, the pieces did start to get closer from before. With a smirk on his face, he continued. Soon some of the pieces were together and others still needed to collide. He would have preferred if all had came together at the same time but he supposed that that would do as well. With one last say of "Reparo!" and a wave of his wand, the stab finally turned into one piece. With a satisfied smirk on his face, he waited for when the lesson would end.
