| Magical or not, animals were not particularly interesting in Lyra's eyes. It wasn't that she had anything against them—regarding animals, she had no opinion at all. She had never wanted pets, and whenever she visited a friend's house, she found it ridiculous how her friends would obsess over their pets. She supposed it was similar to the way she was passionate about ballet and music, except with animals, you couldn't really control them or make art out of them. So she stayed away from animals most of the time, and animals got out of her way as well.
She had signed up for Care of Magical Creatures mostly out of a desire to have an impressive CV by the end of her Hogwarts life. She had considered taking up all of the elective classes, but the Head of Ravenclaw warned her about how difficult it can get on her health. Deciding not to risk it until she has gotten used to life at Hogwarts, she chose the class since it fit her schedule perfectly. Now, though, she was starting to wonder if maybe she should have stuck with Muggle Studies, even if it made no sense for a muggleborn to take such a class.
The puppies in the pen were adorable, sure, but Lyra normally didn't trust appearances. Adorable things, especially, were the most suspicious. She wondered just what these crups were capable of, and whether they were a lot more impish than they looked. After greeting the professor, she stayed away from the pen, keeping her expression cool and serene. |

| Nirek had been pretty quiet for the year. Life was simply going along with the tide and very little was bothering the Gryffindor at the moment. His grades were as average as always, and Nirek was doing very little to change that, really. His focus had some direction though. He'd noted the rumours going around the school of a certain Ravenclaw now dating Madison Bishop, and he had to do something about this.
Especially as the Slytherin had told him Finley was only a game.
Scowling as he moved in and amongst the crowd of the Care of Magical Creatures class, Nirek's mood was not improved at the sight of crups. "Really?" Nirek asked the professor before thinking about it, his disgust at the lesson quite clear on his features in that moment. This was not going to be a fun lesson, it would seem. |

| Though Stephen was surprised to be approached so directly by someone, he was pleased to meet someone as into crups (or animals in general) as he was. He supposed such confidence should be expected from Gryffindors, who were often the most mischievous students in Hogwarts. Gryffindors often intimidated him, since he could never be as brazen as them, so he had never really gathered the courage to make friends with them. Besides, he figured that the Gryffindors saw him as just another Hufflepuff. It then really pleased him to have a Gryffindor be so friendly towards him.
He smiled shyly at the girl. 'Hi, I'm Stephen. It's a pleasure to meet you, Kayleigh.' Stephen envied how she could speak so easily even to her upperclassmen, whereas he was sometimes so reluctant to speak to people his age. Uncertain whether they were allowed to touch the crups just yet, he looked back at Professor Jameson and waited for his answer. |

| As a large amount of students turned up to the class, Daniel smiled to himself. It was always better when more students turned up, made the class seem a little bit more worthwhile. The first student to turn up seemed quite interested in the class too, which was always a bonus.
'Oh, baby crups! May I pet them?'
"You may, step over the pen, and you can pet the little ones. Just be mindful of their teeth, though, they're very sharp at this age. Though, not highly dangerous." Daniel explained to the Hufflepuff, waving him in to the pen.
Daniel only acknowledged the next student who spoke, again waving her in to the pen with the Hufflepuff, she would have heard his warning, and it was up to the students to heed it if they were to enjoy the class.
Waiting for the last of the stragglers to turn up, Daniel got up from where he was sat, depositing the small creatures back on to the ground, and stepping out of the pen. "Morning everyone. Today we will be working with crups. They're only really harmful to Muggles, but don't be fooled by their cuteness. Feel free to get in the pen with them, pet them, and get to see the animals up close. Also, there are some brushes just here to give their coat a good brush through too, they seemed to have been fighting earlier, so they're all ruffled.
"Also, we have some claw files, just to take the points of of them so they don't hurt one another. Work in groups, for that'll be easier. Oh - and don't forget to take some notes, because they will come up in exams, I'm sure!" |

| Alberi had almost forgotten that Care of Magical Creatures tended to be in the outdoors. And not just in the outdoors but in the bloody forest. At least, for now they have been. So, Alberi took his backpack, only taking the materials needed for this lesson. It wasn't that he would really need them, as the teachers usually didn't tell them to write things down but rather, they explained everything and then let the students try and do what they explained. Rather, he took his backpack for protection in case a creature decided that it should tackle him. Honestly, he didn't really know what he could actually do with a half empty backpack but he did not want in any way to repeat what had happened in his first year. It was enough when it happened the first time...
And so, he set off towards the forest. He usually picked a path that had less sticks and rocks, as to not trip over them. After all, if there was anywhere where Alberi had absolutely no talent, it would be in sports. Well, with the exception of chess. He was amazing with chess and overall board games that relied on the mind and not on one's luck (though he had won a few times in such games as well simply because he planned ahead). But, to his discontent, the walk through the woods were nothing like chess.
However, a distance before he was entering (probably about 20 meters), he noticed that there was a pen. And near that pen where people. 'Don't tell me that the lesson is over there' he thought, before he sighed and turned on his heels, no walking towards the pen. 'And I'll certainly be late...' he thought again. Not that he cared, he just hoped that he wouldn't get any form of detention. After all, he didn't have time for such a thing, there were things he needed to study.
Though, then again, he doubted anyone would make a problem if he decided to study in detention.
Shaking the thoughts out of his mind, he kept his gaze on the pen. What were they going to study? Probably something domestic, considering the place. Alberi highly doubted that they would study something dangerous right in the open, while being next to the school. That just wasn't how the teachers saw it, though Alberi considered it would be better to study in the open. Though the forest gives a place to hide, here you can actually defend yourself while having a clear eye of the assault. Plus, you'd probably go out of the forest in the end anyway, it doesn't go on forever.
When he was near enough, he noticed what they would be studying. Crups. Probably the most boring animals in the existent of the Wizarding world. The literally were dogs that had a spiked tail. And even that tail was taken from them at the age of 6 weeks, 8 at most. And they could eat anything, though most dogs could do that, really. At least, in Alberi's eyes.
What surprised him was the teacher, however. Last time he had been to this class, it was a woman. Now it was definitely not her. Instead, it was the headmaster. 'Does this teach everything...' Alberi thought, remembering last year when they studied with him in Defence Against the Dark Arts. And now he was here?
Shrugging it off, he listened to what the heamaster had to say. Happily, Alberi managed to catch his speech, so at least he wasn't amazingly late. They will be going... in the pen... Suddenly Alberi noticed just how much they looked like dogs. Does he really have to enter with them... Deciding to take up the offer on taking notes, Alberi quickly reached into his backpack and pulled out his quill and a piece of parchment. Instead of entering the pen, he examined what the other people did with the things and how they reacted, writing it down later. That way, he was technically still contributing to class without actually getting his hands dirty, so to speak. |

| Tristan had watched as Professor Jameson let a Hufflepuff step over and pet the crups. Which had Tristan wondered if he could, since the Slytherin had always liked to touch things. Then soon Tristan listened as Professor Jameson said his opening speech once again and he rolled his eyes since the stragglers should have gotten there much earlier.
Soon Tristan listened as Professor Jameson mentioned claw files, and how they could just take the points of them so they do not hurt each other which had Tristan smirked under his breath and before he knew it Tristan had listened as Professor Jameson told them to work in groups, so it would be much easier, which caused Tristan to roll his eyes since it was always hard to find groups.
Then soon Tristan had listened as the professor mentioned taking notes since the exams were coming up, and Tristan took that into count since he wanted to do well on exams and not lose his spot as becoming heir to the family company. |

| Ryder had enjoyed wondering and soon before he knew it that was not happening. The eleven year old had known he was slacking and he watched as Professor Jameson let students pet the crups which made Ryder simply roll his eyes. Even though they were cute and as was said they had attacked muggles, and he had began to if they did the same to muggleborns.
Then soon Ryder wondered if maybe they would attack his biological mother since he loved having pranks done on his family members even though he never met her. Soon the eleven year looked around with a smirk wondered if he could cause some sort of trouble.
Ryder listened as Professor Jameson had mentioned claw files, which meant they would take the points so they do not hurt each other, than where was the fun since animals fighting were always fun to watch and he listened as Professor Jameson mentioned them working in groups which in Ryder's mind meant free ticket to talking to people and meeting new people instead of actually listening in class.
Then the most boring word had been said by Professor Jameson which was taking notes since exams were near which had Ryder roll his eyes since he knew he was not gonna take notes since the exams were the last thing on his eleven year old mind all he cared about was having some source of fun. |

| "On a scale from one to ten, how late am I?" Anya asked as she rushed over to wear the class was gather. If it was not already bad enough that she was starting lessons on the last class, now she was most likely late to the class that she had been the most excited for. She had always been fond of animals, though she had only ever had one pet and it was a goldfish. As she looked around the class, she saw some students playing with puppies.
As she walked closer, she saw that the puppies were not quite puppies. The creatures had forked tails, which puppies did not have. Upon further thought, she wondered if these were crups. She remembered reading about crups in a book one time, but she had never actually seen them.
"Well aren't you cute?" She said to one of the creatures. The crup jumped up and down, as if telling her to pick him up.
Anya gently petted the crup. Its fur was extremely soft and it felt nice on the back of her hand.

| Lux half-listened as the professor droned one about what they were supposed to do. The last thing Lux ever expected to do was groom the animals. Seriously, did Professor Jameson think they were studying to be pet groomers? Sure, the easily excitable younger years might enjoy petting and grooming those ridiculous animals but she had expected to learn something with more...substance. Anybody could run a brush through a dog.
Sighing, Lux didn't bother hiding her expression of disgust and boredom. Professor Jameson had asked them to pair up but Lux didn't give rat's pee about obeying that particular instruction. Having to suffer through grooming dogs was bad enough without having to tolerate the other students and their nonsensical love for the animals.
She took up a brush and claw file then let herself into the pen, resisting the overpowering urge to acquaint the crups with the heel of her foot and make pancake of it with the ground. She selected the tiniest one and picked it up none to gently before running the brush through its fur, not bothering to be tender with the tangles and disregarding the jerks the crup gave every time the brush went through a particularly knotted spot. At least it had the decency to keep it's whimpers at a low volume.
When she was done with the brush she took each paw in turn and began clipping and filing off the nail. She had to give it a few spanks here and there as it refused to stay still. After the fourth particularly hard spank, however, it learned its lesson and endured the rest of the grooming in silence and stillness. Why it moved so much Lux had no idea. It wasn't like clipping the nails would hurt it - she knew it didn't. It was only painful if she clipped of too much nail which she wasn't doing.
She didn't know what kind of notes Professor Jameson expected them to take. There wasn't much to know about them except for the fact that they ate almost anything and were aggressive towards Muggles. |

| To every one else, Luke was late.
But, in the words of Gandalf, a wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The idea of this ever coming true to Luke had been a million miles away until he had turned eleven, and then he'd found out he was in fact a wizard. True to form, Luke used this excuse to his advantage - why wouldn't you.
Which was precisely why he walked in to the Care of Magical Creatures lesson without apologising for his lateness. His eyes found the professor for a moment and then turned to the crups before him. Not best amused, but not showing this, Luke's eyes moved to the witch who was standing away from everyone, in a blue tie. Lyra.
Shooting her a dark look from across the pen, Luke moved on, watching the others working. He didn't wish to get involved, so instead he pulled out his notebook from his bag and began to scribble notes down instead. |
