Wanting to get out of the cold for this lesson, and do something a little bit fun for the younger years Gavin had asked for permission to use the groundkeeper's hut for the day. He immediately started a fire and set to tidying the place up. He moved most of the furniture to temporary storage as they'd likely need the whole room for the day. After letting five or six of the creatures they'd be studying today loose Gavin made himself a warm cup of apple cider before heading outside to await the students.

From the closed door behind him sounds of barking and growling could be heard. Realizing that the noises might scare off the students before they saw the subject matter he quickly ducked back inside and scooped one of the little rascals up in his arms before heading back out. The little puppy was squirming in his arms and excitedly licking his face with two of its heads while the other one was looking at the door excited to get back in the room with its brothers and sisters.

After hearing that Care of Magical Creatures would now be on offer to them, Finley had been so, so happy with that. He wasn't the best at magic, and this subject catered to people like him much more. Sure, you still needed to be good at magic, but if you weren't highly talented, it didn't matter - at least, that was what Finley believed anyway.

It was for that reason, Finley had been down in the grounds early. He was excited, and he wanted to see who their new professor was and what they would be doing. It was all just so exciting!

Finley almost missed the professor at the groundskeeper's hut, if he was honest, before doubling back. There stood quite a tall man, who didn't look very old at all. Not that it made a difference to Finley, everyone made him nervous. "I.. I'm l-looking for C-Care of Magical Creatures... Is this the r-right place?" He asked the man, hoping this was, otherwise he was going to look so very silly.

His attention turned to the creature in the man's arms. It looked like a dog... well, except for the three heads... Cool!

As the first student approached Gavin smiles and nodded at him. "Yup this is the right place. I'm Professor Pierce." The puppy in his hands squirmed around until it's attention was focused on the student now and she yipped excitedly extending one of her heads and sniffing him. "And this little girl is Luna her brothers and sisters are inside playing around and there's a jug of warm cider waiting for you. If you've got any candy or snacks put them in the basket by the door. Don't wanna ruin the puppies appetites."

He grinned an opened the door for the young man to pass by him. The smell of cinnamon and apples wafting outside enticing him to escape the cold. Just going to wait for a few more students and then post a note on the door. He thought to himself and shivered a little drawing his furs closer to himself.

Felix had some mixed feeling about care of magical creatures. She was fascinated by the thought of dragons, gryphons, hippogryphs and all the large and dangerous animals, though she figured they wouldn't let first years meet animals that big or dangerous but she still hoped. She wondered what else there was. Unicorns she didn't really feel the need to learn much about, it was a horse as far as she was concerned.

She couldn't see many others near the grounds keeper's hut sos he slowed her frantic sprinting to a brisk walk, her cheeks flushed from the cold, with her red and gold scarf wrapped around her face and neck, and wearing two sets of robes to ward off the cold. She'd have to look up warming charms sooner or later because this was ridiculous. She waved one gloved hand at the professor, her voice a bit muffled behind two layers of wool. "Morning Professor."

Finley felt a rush of relief wash through his body as he found he was in the right place. The Ravenclaw was terrified of speaking at the best of times, but more especially to grown men. Especially of the tall variety - though Finley was still growing so hopefully people would not be so intimidating when he was older. "F-Finley." The boy managed, motioning to himself in the way he always did when he introduced himself.

His attention, however, was soon taken by the puppy that had turned to look at him. He'd read about the myths of the three headed dogs, but never in his wildest dreams had he believed they would come true...

The instructions of taking snacks from his pockets - of which he had none - and heading inside the hut made Finley give the shack a small, suspicious look before nodding to the professor. Moving towards the door, Finley pushed it open enough to get himself in side, finding more of the three headed dogs on the other side.

Cider was not something he wanted, so instead he just made himself comfortable on the floor in the corner, being closely followed by the dogs who moved in to his lap all too quickly after giving him a good sniff. The Ravenclaw smiled brightly, petting them gently and looking at how... well, how cool this was.

If only he had someone who would be interested in listening to him talk about this...

After ushering the boy, Finley, into the hut Gavin smiled at the arrival of the next student, "Morning." He spoke warmly to the child all bundled up in he coat. "Please head inside out of this infernal cold. There's a fire lit and warm cider on the stove please help yourself as I begin preparations for the lesson." After giving her the same instructions about removing any snacks from her person, Gavin opened the door and ushered her in as well, the heat wafting out of the room tempting him to return indoors.

He waited a bit longer for stragglers before pulling out a quill and parchment and tacking the instructions on the door. With that he strode inside and shut the door behind him setting Luna down to go and run free and play with her siblings. Once he poured himself a warm mug of cider he smiled at the students. "Thank you both for braving the cold and making it out here. I'm Professor Pierce and as you can tell today you're going to be studying three headed dogs."

Glancing around at the puppies he picked another one, "Now without opening your books tell me what you've heard about them. Rumors, myths, anything at all."

Cider? Students could drink that? During lessons? This was awesome! +She happily removed her sweets and snacks, and left her bag outside after grabbing a notebook and pencil, not trusting a quill for the moment and went inside. She poured herself a small glass and took a sip. Whoa! She just found her new favourite drink and sat down besides Finley. She blinked at all the puppies in the room and tensed up. Nope! "No no stay there no!" She lifted her glass in the air as two came crashing into her lap.

"GAK! They're related to Cerberus who guards the underworld for Hades!" She squeaked out and turned her head away to avoid a licking.

"I'm also allergic to dog hair..." She scrambled up again and backed away to the other side of the room, which turned into a game of chase around the cabin while she tried to keep her drink from spilling. She downed it in one and put the glass on a table, on her thirst run around the cabin she jumped onto the Professor's back to climb out of the way of the three headed puppies. "Tell them to leave me alone please!"

When the professor joined them inside, Finley looked up from his pile of puppies in his lap and smiled sheepishly. He wasn't sure they were supposed to be doing this, but it was so hard not to enjoy the company of such amazing creatures. The professor didn't seem to mind though, if he could read the older man correctly, so Finley went back to petting the small animals happily.

The question of the dogs made Finley think for a moment before Felix started hurrying around the room. The Ravenclaw frowned slightly, not completely sure what was going on before Felix explained she was allergic to dog hair. Well, that made a lot of sense.

"I t-think... wasn't there one h-here? A-about twenty y-years ago?" Finley asked, looking to the professor. He was quite sure he'd read that somewhere, but he really couldn't remember.
