With the last lesson being a relative success, Jake wasn't completely sure as to what to teach the group next. But, after spending a fair while thinking of things to keep the lessons fresh, he'd gathered up enough of an idea. Most of the kids interested were younger - which meant as of yet - they probably hadn't tried Quidditch.

So today was going to be a lesson focused on that.

It was something he was most certainly highly capable of teaching from the three years he'd spent as a Quidditch Player, and now he could try to teach the students the basics. Sitting on the school's Quidditch balls box, Jake wondered who would be attending his class today.

He certainly hoped there was going to be a similar level of enthusiasm too, because that made all of his effort worth it in the end.

If there was one class that caught her attention the most, it was flying. Brooms and other ways of transportation fascinated her, and despite being a first year, she longed to be allowed to have hers with her. Because really, she knew how to fly, and it wasn't as if she was going to go crashing or anything.

To be fair, she was quite the dare-devil, so perhaps falling off was not out of the question. Still, Corien had her fair share of practicing back home, and was not all too shabby. Not fully able to make sharp turns or the like, she instead went very fast, in a very straight line, having to show down in order to turn back. Thus, her flying consisted of zooming in one direction, slowly making a u-turn, and zooming back.

Her mother had never truly been a fan of the method of transportation, instead sticking to Floo Networks and apparating, both of which Corien found more useful. But useful was outweighed by fun at this age, and so, bright eyes an ready to face the day, she skipped into the field.

"Hello," she greeted the man, looking around. Why was Phillip never there before her? She wrinkle her nose a little, hating being alone without her best friend there. Nevertheless, the Professor in front of her was not a bad one, and she didn't mind him at all. "What's in the box?" she asked, curious already. And when she was curious, she let nothing satisfy her but the answer she was seeking. It was, after all, nice to learn new things.

Flying Lesson - Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Flying Lesson - Lesson Three (All Years)   Flying Lesson - Lesson Three (All Years) EmptyTue Mar 03, 2015 7:18 pm

February had been a whirlwind for Victoria - in a number of ways, first of all there had been the first time Victoria had ever celebrated Valentine's Day in a manner that wasn't sending Valentine's cards to everyone in the school (which she did, along with the help of house elves from the kitchen when they weren't too busy). No, this year she'd actually spent it with the one person she loved almost as much as she loved her big brother and her parents.

The one person outside of her family who meant the world to her.

And second, Allegra had made it so very, very perfect. Not only because she'd had the whole day with her best friend, but because she'd received one of the most beautiful presents in the world. A small gold band with a heart shaped stone had been the present Victoria had received from her girlfriend, one that she had slipped on to her left hand, on to her ring finger. It had been perfect, and Victoria had gushed so many 'thank you's in such a small amount time, it had taken Allegra kissing her (only very softly) to shut her up.

Victoria's cheeks had felt like they were burning as she skipped down to the Quidditch Pitch thinking about such things. But it was a good feeling, a feeling that she knew was not going to die away soon. "Good morning, Jake!" Victoria greeted her brother, before smiling at the younger witch who was already there. "Hi!" The Head Girl greeted the Slytherin, just as warmly as she greeted everyone in the school.

Staring from when Phil was young and showed signs of magic, his father had this sort of obsession with wanting to integrate as much of the magical world with the wizarding world as he could. One of the best parts was flying. Phil loved flying because he loved his father. He loved flying because of how very powerful and weak it made you feel; it caused an eruption of conflicted feelings over how one was feeling while flying effortlessly. It made you feel powerful because it gave you an upper hand on everybody far below you, but it also made you feel weak because you were so very insignificant in this world of large things. That's why Phil loved flying too.

When his magical accident happened, his father immediately took to teaching him how to fly. Of course Phillip completely ate grass when he started, and sometimes he fell off (not because he was bad, but because he had his head in the clouds, pun intended). When he fell it hurt worse of all, having to have his bones re-mended on multiple occasions was starting to numb the pangs of pain he felt, which was good. His father almost cherished berating Phillip for getting injured so easily as if he had been asking to get hurt by flying (newsflash: dad, it's your fault).

Now he was out in the pitch and grinning as he saw his best friend there.

"Corienna!" He called out to her as he took up a jog, coming to a stop beside her and peering down at her (seriously being tall was a terrific advantage), "how's the weather down there?" He asked jokingly before glancing at the professor and grinning at him too. "Mornin' Professor."

Naomi ran excitedly down to the pitch, the wind tangling her hair. Flying was one of her favorite classes, after Herbology, so she was ecstatic to have another chance to get on a broom. She slowed gradually to a halt at the edge of the group, smiling at the professor. "Hello Professor Newbury," she greeted, a bit louder than she normally spoke. She really did like Professor Newbury.

Glancing around, she didn't see anybody she really knew. Professor Newbury's sister, the Head Girl Victoria, was there, but she and Naomi hadn't really spoken much before. Besides, although Victoria was nice, her over enthusiastic manner kind of intimidated Naomi. She spotted two of her fellow first years, one of whom, Phillip, she'd met before on the shores of the Black Lake. She waved to them from a distance, combing the fingers of her other hand through her hair and staring with interest at the box the professor was sitting on. She thought it looked familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Felix had very nearly launched herself down the grounds to the pitch for the next flying lesson, giddily excited about flying again. Though she was still borrowing a school broom for it, she dressed in plain muggle clothes (jeans and a t-shirt) with her robes thrown over the top, and her tie, looking a bit out of place over her white t-shirt but still, she didn't want to muddy up her uniform too much. That and she despised uniforms, anything but her karate uniform felt uncomfortable and restricting. So loose jeans it was, and jeans looked awkward with a shirt, at least most shirts, so she went for a hybrid look. She just hoped the professor wouldn't send her back to change.

She could see some students on the pitch already so she grabbed a broom as fast as possible and made her way outside to join them, bumping into nearly everyone in order to get to the front where she could see what was going on. "MORNING! uhh Morning professor!" She beamed as bright as the sun, standing as tall as possible, which was hilariously short for the first year.

After the second Flying lesson - which was still poor for Finley, but getting better - there was no way that Finley was going to miss the next lesson. True, he wasn't very good at flying, but he was getting better! He could see the improvement, no matter how slight, and he wanted to keep going.

Especially seeing as he quite liked the professor too.

Hurrying down to the pitch as quickly as his little legs would carry him, Finley noted that he was a little later than normal. Never mind, he was still on time. It only took a moment to pick out the witch he wanted to stand with, and a couple of moments later he was stood next to his one real friend at Hogwarts. Naomi. Smiling at the witch, Finley nodded towards the professor, still not overly confident in speaking to others.

"M-morning, Naomi." Finley managed to the witch beside him, because his friend deserved that much.

As the first witch arrived, Jake met her greeting with a soft hello of his own. Her question brought an easy going smile to his lips. "That, you will find out soon!" Jake told the witch with a warm smile. The others came to the pitch with varying enthusiasm, and once again Jake greeted them all warmly.

"Okay, good morning, everyone!" Jake responded on the whole, signalling that class was now going to begin. They'd waited enough, Jake thought. "Today, we will be looking at the popular game of Quidditch. Now, a lot of you might know a lot about the sport already, but for those who might not know anything, can anyone tell me what Quidditch is, what are the key things for people to know. Anything you can think of - you don't have to give me everything, we can piece this together as a group if you want." Jake asked, looking up at the class from the box, showing that this was going to be a very laid back lesson.

Especially seeing as exams were coming up in other lessons, Jake didn't want his students stressing.

"Good morning Finley," Naomi said, returning her friend's greeting before allowing the comfortable silence between the pair to return.

Quidditch! That's why the box seemed familiar. Although Naomi had yet to go to a Quidditch game, her father had described the sport to her in great detail and even drawn a few pictures. Artistry ran in the family and his sketches were surprisingly lifelike, especially after he charmed them to move. Naomi raised her hand shyly, dropping it again as she was called on. "Quidditch is the most popular sport in the Wizarding World, with teams from all over the globe. It's played on brooms with seven players and three different kinds of balls."

Naomi figured she'd only lay out the bare bones of the game and let somebody else do the talking now. She didn't want to steal all of the answers or look like a show off.

With the class now starting, Victoria couldn't help but be excited, and why not? Victoria waited for the question to be asked, and then stopped herself from answering straight away. What with some younger students here, she wanted to give them a chance to answer first.

She wasn't surprised that a Ravenclaw knew an answer, and smiled at the witch with encouragement as she answered the question. Yes, it was simple, but Victoria was a firm believer that starting with the basics was most definitely the place to start.

Once the witch was done, Victoria raised her hand, waiting to be called upon. "The three balls are called the Quaffle, the Bludger and the Snitch. The Snitch scores 150 points each time it is caught, and also ends the game of Quidditch." Victoria supplied, leaving the other two for someone else to answer, or even for Jake to interject with his own information.
