Flying Lesson Three - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Flying Lesson Three - All Years   Flying Lesson Three - All Years EmptyThu Jul 02, 2015 7:56 pm

Daniel had not flown a broom for a number of years, and honestly he didn't have a clue how he was going to teach kids anything of use. He couldn't contact Professor Newbury because he'd been signed off on sick leave, and Daniel didn't wish for any law suits against him.

So, instead, he'd head down to the Quidditch Pitch and unlocked the broom cupboard that morning, and then the moved to the middle of the pitch.

He was still going over something fun for them to do as the pitch began to slowly warm from the almost Spring sun. Hopeful that the students would be forgiving of his lack of knowledge, Daniel looked up at the Quidditch hoops and smiled to himself. It had been a long time since he'd played Quidditch, longer even than since he'd flied last, but the sound of the Slytherin chants could still be heard in his memories.

Naomi made her way down to the Quidditch Pitch with Finley, excited for another Flying Lesson with Jake. His classes were always fun and she was becoming a better flyer with everyone. Because she was talking quietly to Finley over their other classes, Naomi didn't look up until they were nearly upon the professor.

The professor that wasn't Jake.

Naomi skidded to a stop, flashing back to her vision, the one she'd had a couple months ago. Though she'd never forgotten, the images of Jake being beaten bloody by unseen figures had faded to the back of her mind. Now, though, it leaped to the front of her consciousness and her breathing sped up a little bit.

Forcing herself to calm down, Naomi continued on to the class. Maybe he was just sick, or maybe there was a family emergency, or maybe he had other Auror business... Before she could think, Naomi found herself saying, "Good morning Headmaster. Where's Ja- Professor Newbury?"

Ethan was happy that he hadn't slept in and missed this lesson like the ones before. He walked down to the pitch, his own broomstick in hand. It wasn't the newest model, but it was still a good and respected broom. He looked up to see not Professor Newbury, but the Headmaster himself. He frowned, this wasn't right. He approached the couple of Ravenclaws and the Headmaster slowly, confusion etched across his face.

He nodded his head in greeting to them all, and quietly thanked the girl for asking where the rightful Professor was. Not that he had anything against the Headmaster, but Ethan had his doubts as to where he was and why he was gone. He just hoped that his family wasn't in any trouble, or the cause of it, as the blame would go to the Purebloods almost immediately if he had his facts straight. His eyes sparked with curiosity and listened for the Headmaster's response.

Flying Lesson Three - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Flying Lesson Three - All Years   Flying Lesson Three - All Years EmptyTue Jul 07, 2015 9:13 pm

This school year was becoming one of the best that Finley had ever had. He'd gained a new friend in Sumire, he'd learnt more and more about his best friend and he had been provided with a solution (a solution that would take time) to overcome his lack of magical ability. Yes, of course, there had been the low points in the year, but on the whole, it had been great.

Walking to class, as usual, with Naomi, they'd been lost in conversation until they reached the Quidditch Pitch, looking up to give his usual small smile to Professor Newbury, Finley's eyes instead landed on Professor Jameson, and instead of a smile, there was a frown. He didn't dislike the Headmaster, far from it, but he wasn't the Flying Professor.

But, before he could even look to Naomi, she was asking the question he'd been thinking. Smiling slightly in her direction - a tight, uncertain smile - Finley looked back to the Professor to see what his answer would be.

Alberi didn't really know why he still came to these lessons. Probably to have a bigger number of lessons he had attended. The thing was that he was terrible at flying. He lacked the orientation. He could not keep a firm balance. He did sometimes trip when on land, mostly when he is deep in thought, yet in the air he was even worse. He expected that he would fall off his broom sooner or later. And still he came to the lesson.

The boy still was in a sulky mood. The news from his mother didn't leave his mind and it was obvious to the rest. Usually he hide well his emotions but now... People seemed to notice that and stood even more away from him from before. Well, less idiots to forcefully interact with, as Alberi would say. He hated socialisation anyways. Most humans were annoying and mindless. At times like these he truly wished he was a robot...

Alberi arrived at the Quidditch pitch to notice someone who wasn't their teacher. Not their flying one, anyways. What had happened? In truth he was glad that the head master was here - Alberi rather liked him as a teacher. Hopefully he wasn't as good in flying as he was in Ancient Runes. For once he wouldn't have to worry about being hit by show balls while he flew.

It didn't take long for students to filter in to the Quidditch pitch, and the arrival of Finley and Naomi made him smile a little bit more naturally than normal. He didn't have favourites, but he knew when kids were trying hard, and he admired that. The Headmaster was just about to greet them when Naomi's question came.

"Good morning Headmaster. Where's Ja- Professor Newbury?"

Biting his lip a little and looking to the two other students who had just arrived, Daniel took a moment to think about his answer. "Good morning everyone." Daniel greeted the group, not dismissing the question for a moment. "Professor Newbury is... was in a mishap with his work at the Ministry. He is on the way to a full recovery, so please don't be alarmed, but he won't be teaching this term." Daniel explained, hoping not to worry the students too much. Details he didn't have, but he knew enough to know not to cause fear in his students.

"Now, I don't know how you've been doing in lessons so far, but I'm hopefully going to work out something good for you all." Daniel explained, trying not to sound as nervous as he really was in that moment.

"What we're going to do today..." Daniel started, rubbing the back of his neck before swallowing. "Is we're going to play Quidditch, to an extent. I'm not going to release the Bludgers, but we can play around with the Quaffle and the Snitch. You can fly around if you like, just to practice, or you can try to play with the other equipment." He explained, looking around the faces hopefully before motioning to the Quidditch box at the edge of the pitch. Hopefully they wouldn't mind too much...

At the headmaster's hesitant answer to her question, Naomi felt her face drain of blood and grabbed Finley's arm, probably more tightly than necessary. Professor Newbury is... was in a mishap with his work at the Ministry.

a mishap with his work at the Ministry

a mishap with his work

Oh no.

Naomi reminded herself to breathe and concentrated on relaxing her grip on Finley's arm so she wouldn't hurt him. Professor Jameson had said he was recovering. He was going to be ok, he was, he was. Still, she couldn't help the guilt that because she had Seen the attack happening, she had somehow caused it.

Trying to focus on the lesson, Naomi was relieved to see that they would be doing something simple today, something that didn't need a lot of her concentration. She didn't think she'd be able to do anything more complicated right now. Walking forward on autopilot, Naomi grabbed the Quaffle from the box and mounted her broom, tossing it to the first person that followed her into the air without even seeing who it was.

As Professor Jameson explained where Professor Newbury was, Finley could feel his eyes grow a little wider. He wasn't sure what the Professor was trying to say, but he knew it wasn't good. More so even when Naomi grabbed his arm, making him jump a little before he realised it was her. Lifting his free hand to pat her arm in some kind of reassurance, Finley tried to work out what to say.

But he decided against saying anything when the professor before them began to speak again. Nodding more to himself than anything as he took it in, Finley looked sideways to his best friend when they were told to have a go, silently asking if she was okay, but she was gone before he could even try to ask.

Following after her, Finley mounted a broom carefully, and gently kicked off. He'd never been great at flying, but he was most certainly getting better. Maybe not good, but better. Following his best friend up in to the sky, Finley had just about got his balance when a Quaffle headed in his direction. Without thinking, the Ravenclaw moved to catch it.

It hit his left hand first, and bounced awkwardly upwards, but on the second attempt, Finley caught it, before realising he wasn't holding his broom at all. Flailing to catch it, Finley tucked himself down close to the broom, still holding the Quaffle, but not in any position to throw it to anyone.

"Oh..." He groaned to himself, not quite sure how to get himself out of this situation.

Watching the two Ravenclaws take to the sky, Daniel smiled to himself, watching them until Finley managed to put himself upside down on the broom. Managing not to sigh in a negative manner, Daniel picked up one of the school brooms and moved up to help the boy from the predicament he'd found himself in.

He did, on numerous occasions, feel sorry for the Ravenclaw, but he knew it wasn't through lack of effort that the boy didn't happen to do very well. It was just... poor luck, Daniel guessed as he helped the boy right himself on the broom before following him back to the ground.

After what didn't seem like long, the class came to a close. "Okay everyone, that's it for today, please put the borrowed brooms back and head off to your next class. I'll see you all soon, I'm sure." Daniel told them, waiting for the last student to leave before putting the brooms away.

Class now closed.
