| After quite an exciting summer, Jake was a little put out to be back in Scotland. Rome had been amazing, of course, and graduating as a qualified Auror made the summer incomparable to any he'd had before. But, of course, he'd missed the kids he'd taught and was excited to get back to the school.
Today's lesson would be on the basics, and Jake had made a note for all the common rooms. Whilst he encouraged everyone to come, he explained that he would be starting with the basics this lesson, and working up in the lessons that would follow.
Brooms from the school were laid out on the ground for the first years and anyone else who didn't have a broom of their own. He had been told there was a somewhat large intake of first years, so he was ready for the likelihood of needing to start from the very beginning for a lot of people.
But Jake's enthusiasm did not fade at the prospect, instead he was leant on his Firebolt Three, waiting for students to arrive. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Naomi skipped down to the Quidditch pitch, happy to see her favorite professor again after the summer. "Hello Professor Newbury," she greeted with a smile. "How was your summer?" Is was more conversation than nearly anyone but Finley could get out of her without asking a direct question.
The other reason Naomi was happy was currently propped against her shoulder: a brand new broom that her father had given to her as an early birthday present right before she got on the train. It was nothing flashy, just a sturdy, dependable Comet 340, the model a few years old, but it was hers and she loved it. She was excited to get on and see what it could do, although she suspected the lesson might be a bit tame as the first years learned how to fly. She wondered if the older students would be allowed to practice separately, although it would probably be best to test her summer-rusty skills first. |

| Yes! Flying class! Bennett almost jumped up from his seat in the Common Room. He had been playing wizard chess with a housemate before he looked at the clock and realized it was time to get ready for Newbury's class. Finishing his game quickly, letting the other guy win almost instantly, Bennett stood up and went to get his broom, ready to get to the Quidditch Pitch for his lesson. Flying was Bennett's number one favorite class, not only because ouf the professor but because Jake loved the sport itself. Flying was like driving; fun, necessary and relaxing. Although Bennett didn't have the Firebolt 3, which is really what he wanted because he had heard it was the fastest model yet, he was happy with his current broom. His father had used the first Firebolt model for a while during his school years, and upon making the Quidditch team as a Seeker Bennett had received that broom as his first ever. It was reasonable fast, something his mother didn't quite like since she was scared of him getting hurt, but Bennett liked fast.
With his broom in hand, Bennett arrived at the Quidditch Pitch knowing very weel that this class would be about basic flying elements. He had learned this already, and he didn't know why Professor Newbury hadn't divided up the classes like most professors, but because he simply loved flying. It was like the love a cat for naps. That's how Bennett's love for flying was, very strong. As he arrived, he noticed that same Ravenclaw girl. Honestly, if he saw her in another class he would have to go up and say hi because ignoring her was getting old. She was asking Professo Newbury about his summer, and Bennett patiently waited for the man's answer. He was curious as well. |

| Nilla almost ran out to the pitch for the Flying Lesson. On a broom, in the air, her leg didn't matter. She was a perfect equal to everyone else on a broom--assuming they had the same broom, of course. She skidded to a stop and calmed herself before continuing calmly onto the pitch. No need to look too eager. She didn't have a broom of her own yet, but she was looking forward to her second year when she'd be able to get one and bring it with her. And Quidditch. She could try out for the team next year. She stepped up to one of the provided brooms and hoped the rest of the class wouldn't take too long to arrive. Not that it mattered much, with it being a flying lesson and all.
There were two other students there already, both older than herself, and she half listened as the girl asked the professor about his summer. She wasn't all that interested. What the professors did with their time off was their business and Nilla didn't really care about it so long as it didn't affect their ability to teach. Still, she was a bored enough to listen in until class started. |

| Emilia was sort of excited about learning to fly on a broom. After all, it was the truest stereotype known to witches so she needed to do it. She had practically ran out of the school and onto the grounds into the direction of the Pitch, however, once she got into view of the class, she began to walk. Her hair had been thrown up into a ponytail to keep it out of her face. She was happy to see that she was not the first person to make it to this class. She had shown up right on time and three students there.
She vaguely heard a student speaking to the professor and when she turned, she was shocked to see Professor Newbury, the one she thought was cute. It was weird to see him again in the same day and even weirder to think he was cute. Turning away, she took a stance beside one of the brooms. She couldn't wait til Daddy bought her her own broom, though she wasn't sure what she'd do with it other than fly around during her free time. Quidditch didn't sound too much like her thing, but she'd have to see. |

| Finley still hadn't perfected his flying, and seeing as his parents were Muggles, he could practice outside of school. To him, those six weeks broke down every inch of confidence he'd built during the year. Which was exactly why he was back on the Quidditch field that morning, ready to start from scratch again if he had to.
Hurrying down to the Quidditch pitch whilst avoiding everyone in his path, Finley noted that he was at least not going to be the oldest. The Hufflepuff boy was in his year, he was sure. Spotting Naomi, Finley moved to her side, giving her a small smile and a soft, stuttered greeting before looking to Professor Newbury.
The man didn't look so big this year, perhaps Finley had had a growth spurt over the summer without really noticing? He wasn't overly sure, but he gave Jake a smile in greeting and waited beside his best friend. |

| Jake couldn't help but smile at the first person to enter the pitch and greet him. Naomi was a sweet kid - he'd picked up enough from the previous year to know this, even if she was quite shy. However, when she greeted him and asked about his summer, Jake was, inwardly, quite surprised by this. "Good morning, Naomi, my summer was great thank you! I went to Rome, very beautiful city!" Jake explained with a smile, noting another student hurrying in after her.
"I hope you had a good summer too." Jake added, because as much as he'd love to ask his students about their summers, it would take much too long to ask everyone. Instead, Jake greeted the rest of the class, checking his watch after a short time before deciding to get on with the lesson.
"Good morning everyone, I'm glad to see you've decided to join the class despite my note!" He added, mostly to the older students. "Today we will be going over the basics first, and if you guys manage that, we'll have a bit of fun towards the end of the lesson. Now, somebody who hasn't been to a Flying lesson before, can you tell me the standard procedure for getting ready to fly a broom? Anything to help you mount up, or even start flying." Jake asked, looking towards the students hopefully. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Alberi wasn't exited for the up coming Flying lesson. So he didn't even bother to show up on time. Why should he? It surely was some other useless sport that everyone in the school but he would be interested in. And he had no intention of becoming some famous player on a broom, that was for sure. He would ditch but it was against the rules plus who knew how often they had this class and how much points could be taken because of him, so he decided to show up. But he had no rush to be on time, that was one thing he was sure of. This sport was not in Alberi's interest zone.
Walking towards class, he examined the portraits just so he would come slower to it. They were interesting to watch, yes, and it was interesting to learn how the managed to move in such a way. It was fascinating, that's for sure. Though he wished he had time to examine them and was not in fact walking towards the most useless class ever to exist. It was like Gym in Muggle schools. It was Gym, really. A Wizard gym. Fun.
Soon enough he managed to arrive. He heard as the teacher asked them something. How was he supposed to know? It wasn't like there was some book over how to fly a broom! With a small roll of his eyes, he walked towards one of the free brooms. Why the hell did they have to put them on the ground? There surely had to be some closet for brooms somewhere... |
