Flying - Lesson Two (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Flying - Lesson Two (All Years)   Flying - Lesson Two (All Years) EmptySun Feb 01, 2015 9:14 am

After the last lesson, Jake knew most of his students were competent flyers, which meant he'd had to come up with something a little more challenging for the second lesson. He hoped he'd achieved that today too, because it had been quite difficult trying to get something to fit everyone in to.

Standing on the Quiditch Pitch, Jake hid the day's events from plain view with a flick of his wand and turned towards the entrance, wondering who would be coming back and who had decided not to come back. It wasn't a compulsory lesson, after all, but it was a way of relieving a little stress.

Leaning a little on his Firebolt Three, Jake looked to the entrance of the field and checked his watch. It wouldn't be long now and the students would be arriving. Taking out his wand once more, Jake flicked it towards the broom cupboard, summoning half a dozen brooms for those who didn't own their own to borrow.

Now to wait.

The first lesson with Jake had been fun to Victoria, though she was probably highly biased. She wasn't the greatest of flyers despite being on the Hufflepuff squad, which meant the game had helped her out a fair bit. Today, she was coming down for a little bit of fun to relieve the stress of the balancing act that was her life. Though - Victoria wasn't overly aware of just how much stress she was putting herself through, but that was a completely different matter.

With her personalised broom on her shoulder, Victoria hurried down to the Quidditch Pitch with her usual smile in place, ready to take on the world.

Hurrying through the gates to the Quidditch Pitch, Victoria noted her brother and nobody else was yet there. Oh well, the witch thought, moving to stand near her brother. "Hey Jake!" Victoria greeted her brother, her lips forming in to a larger smile upon seeing him. Jake always made her happier, it was simply how their relationship had always worked.

The first flying lesson had been a bore, to Josh, and he didn't mind putting anyone down who tried to defend Professor Newbury's methods. He should have stayed with Defence Against the Dark Arts, because he was't overly bad at that. But still, the Headmaster seemed to think the man was capable, so Josh decided to give him one more chance, then he would give up on the notion of this lesson.

Moving down to the Quidditch Pitch with the latest version of the Nimbus broom, Josh noted only the Head Girl was here. How she always got to places first Josh didn't know, but it was something that could have annoyed a lesser man.

Without acknowledging anyone, Josh simply stood waiting for the lesson to begin, hoping that whatever they were going to be doing it would be much more fun than the rubbish they'd done last lesson.

Rhys had managed to avoid flying lessons last term, but the young boy figured he never really been taught how to fly properly, just a few back yard lessons with his father. And if he was hoping to be on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team next year, he should probably sharpen his skills.

As the young boy made his way down towards the pitch, he was hoping that there would be a school broom he could borrow, as for he didn't fancy sitting in the stands for an hour watching everybody else have fun. When he came through the exit it was instantly clear that he was the youngest there, a Hufflepuff girl who he knew was Head Girl and a Slytherin boy who was definitely in his senior years.

Rhys wasn't sure how these lesson were run, but he imagined the professor taught them how to fly so therefore the two older students must have been really bad at flying if they were still taking the class, he thought to himself.

"Hello Professor" Rhys said warmly, as well as passing a smile to the two other students.

After a disastrous first lesson (of which Finley had had a few) the young Ravenclaw had considered writing home and asking his parents if he could stop attending Hogwarts. He was doing so poorly in anything that wasn't theory it seemed pointless to him. But he'd been too much of a coward to tell his parents that he was failing.

After pulling himself out of bed that morning, Finley had moved down to the Quidditch Pitch with little and less enthusiasm. He knew it wasn't fair on the professor, but he wasn't sure what else to do. If he didn't come, they'd write to his parents, and with his current track record, they were probably going to write to them anyway.

Finley entered the Quidditch Pitch to see a handful of people, and he stayed out of the way of almost everyone, eyes downcast, waiting for instructions on what they were going to do today.

Felix raced over the grounds to get to the pitch, she didn't have her own broom yet but it was there on her list of things to get, hopefully next year, and barrelled through the entrance, tripping over herself in an effort to reach everyone in her eagerness, floundering about a little but never hitting the floor till she came to a sudden stop, landing face first in the grass while trying to dig wave at Jake to wish him good morning while the other was still messing with her tie, which had been put on backwards that morning in her haste.

The gryffindor seemed unphased and unembarrassed, getting back up and grinning as big as ever. "Morning Professor! Ready to fly!" She saluted, picturing in her head flying around like a pilot only on a broom instead of a fighter plane, entertaining herself with the thoughts till the lesson began.

Gabriel was entertained by the Hard-A@! Professor, he was only joking when he asked Murray for help; the broom was a menace. He didn't race down to the Pitch like normal, instead he simply walked taking in the sights.

Even though he'd been at Hogwarts for five years, he'd never get over the beauty of the place. The scorching beauty of a fire was the only comparison he had for it, then maybe a coal forge and a hot blade. He shook the thoughts out of his head, he entered the Pitch.

Looking around he noted that Victoria was there, Murray, the Ravenclaw from the first time, a new Claw and a firsty Gryffindor it seemed. "Yo Professor." He greeted with a grin, his goggles strapped firmly on his head "We doing some more...tricks?" He placed his broom along his shoulders, resting the crooks of his elbows on the wooden frame.

Flying - Lesson Two (All Years) Empty

With each student that arrived, Jake smiled in their direction and let out a soft 'hello' to everyone. Well, almost everyone. It seemed that Gabriel had forgotten once more that whilst he wasn't a strict professor, he did like a little bit of respect to be shown towards him. "A hello will do, Gabriel." Jake responded, not angry, just correcting the boy in his mistake. Once more and he probably wouldn't be quite so forgiving.

"And we'll be trying some new things, yes." Jake told the boy with a slightly more warm smile. Looking over the students he had, it was quite the mix of capable students, and then the younger more nervous years. Calculating in his head, Jake nodded to himself, deciding to continue, but with a little bit more caution than he'd first decided on.

Checking his watch and seeing that it was time to get on with the lesson, Jake looked at those gathered before him and cleared his throat. "Right, everyone, welcome back to flying, I hope that you'll enjoy the lesson despite the cold of winter. Today, I have something of a challenge for those who feel up to it." He explained, looking around the group.

"For those of you who are familiar with Quidditch, you might have heard of the move we'll be trying today." Jake added, taking out his wand and flicking it behind him to make the apparatus show once more. Hoops of a more solid nature formed a lap of the pitch, from them up and weaving through the posts, and then climbing higher still on the opposite side of the pitch. The turn above the Quidditch posts only gained altitude before the hoops took a very vertical drop, pulling away from the ground just in time (or in this case, a safety mat that would absorb any mishaps that might happen.

"From the hoops set out, can anyone guess at which move I am referring to?" Jake asked, looking around the students for an answer.

Felix watched the hoops appear and followed the trail three times before registering the question asked by Jake. "Oh! The Wronski feint! Seekers trick other seekers into a dive and pull up at the last second making the other seeker crash!" She spoke about a mile a minute, jumping around with excitement. " Thorsten Pfeffer tried this move last year at the Quidditch world cup against Wales but nearly died. Oh And Krum did it in 1994 where he caught the snitch but the Irish won the game!"

She had to breathe by this point and inhaled sharply before bouncing around again. "Do we get to try that? Please please please! Do we go one at a time or in pairs? Or will we all go at once in a line?" She asked, then thinking over her requests. "Probably not all at once huh? Oh Can I go first? PLEAAAAAASE!" She pouted, itching to give flying a try.

Rhy's watched as hoops appeared on the pitch, he was abit concerned at the pattern of them, they seemed to escalate before quickly dropping. This would be Rhys's first time on a broom and this task seemed to be very ambitious. The young boy looked around at the other students to gauge their reactions, from what he could tell most of the other students seemed to be fairly excited.

The Gryffindor who he had seen in a couple of his classes knew the move which the Professor was asking for, Rhys suddenly felt light headed when he heard what the move involved "Its fine Rhys, you can do this" his mumbled quietly to himself to feel some reassurance.

Then when Rhys heard the Gryffindor girl say that someone nearly died performing this move, the young Ravenclaw couldn't contain his silence "What! we are going to do a move which can potentially kill us!" Rhys exclaimed as his eyes darted between the Professor and the hoops.
