Flying Lesson (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Flying Lesson (All Years)   Flying Lesson (All Years) EmptySat Mar 03, 2018 2:27 pm

When the notion of resuming the Flying lessons he'd stopped teaching many years ago was brought to Jake, he'd paused for a second. The Ministry was still on high alert, not yet having replaced the Minister of Magic the whole Ministry was somewhat... chaotic. But, so long as the lesson could fall on the days he already spent at the castle, this would not have been a problem.

Which was precisely why Jake was stood in the Quidditch stadium, his Firebolt Two leaning against him as he waited for the students to arrive.

Who would attend his lesson, Jake wasn't too sure -- it wasn't mandatory, after all -- but he hoped that his knowledge from his International Quidditch career would inspire many and more of the young minds at the school.

The sun was relatively warm for a March afternoon, and Jake couldn't have been blessed with fairer flying conditions. Barely any breeze, this would be perfect for those who weren't one hundred percent confident!

Neri's schedule was not just busy. It was a nightmare, for sure. The young witch should be locked up in the Library, studying for the upcoming exams. Thing is, that she had been doing that all the time almost every day. Her brain felt like jelly, and she just wanted to explode. Not to mention that it took so much energy to get herself concentrated, since her thoughts always seemed to wander off to one particular boy, who had turned her world upside down.

So, as the news that the Flying Lessons would be back reached the girl's ears, Nerisei was ecstatic. It was a fact that she didn't play Quidditch, but Nerisei loved flying, and she was actually pretty good at it. But, did that mean she had to stop practicing? Nope. Practice makes perfect, and so Nerisei found herself walking over to the Quidditch Pitch, broom in hand. As she stared at her poor, old, broom, she made sure to remind herself to get a new Firebolt soon. Unless, she wanted to end up face first on the ground.

Upon arriving at the Pitch, the young witch looked around, smiling a little as she saw that she was one of the first. Early, good, the voice in her head said. Nerisei hated being late, especially when she had lessons.
"Hello, Professor." Nerisei greeted, giving him a small nod of acknowledgement. Professor Jake Newbury was one of the best Quidditch players out there. Neri felt honored working with him.

Falling silent, Neri looked around, curious to see if people would show up. This was not a mandatory lesson, but it would definitely be a fun and useful one. All she had to do was wait and see.

Flying Lesson...it was as if it stood out on the parchment in bold red letters. Her quill had flown acrossed the parchment when the class was offered. Flying would lead to her number one favorite thing in the whole world QUIDDITCH!!! She was a first year so none of that but that didn't mean she couldn't take the class and maybe show the team what she had.

She happily trotted out to the Quidditch field with her Air Wave Gold, inherited from her Papa, in her hand. Seeing Professor Newbury she smiled and an even better surprise Nerisei was here. Walking up over to Nerisei she waved to the Professor.

"Great day for flying Professor."

Riley then turned to Nerisei still smiling.

"Didn't think I would see any of the older students here. Don't get me wrong glad your here. Done much flying before?"

She began to give her broom the once over making sure it was ready to fly.

Dominique was excited as she was taking flying lessons. Which would be great if she was going to try out for the team next year. Now all she had to do was not fall off of her broom. She wanted to prove to herself that she could do it. Dominique knew that Sasha would be in the class. As she knew that she had a fear of heights. She then smiled as she wasn't the only first year in the class. So this was going to be something that would be fun. “ Hello Professor.”

She then went over and grabbed her a broom. As she was preparing herself for the class. Telling herself that it wasn't going to be bad. Even though she wasn't scared of height, she was scared of follow off her broom. But she guessed that they wouldn’t' be too far off the ground. Maybe she could talk to Mim about helping her get ready for Quidditch next year.

Janet hurried out to the Quidditch stadium, the latest broom in the firebolt series (a recent gift from her father, he kept trying to compensate for her mother's death with random gifts) in one hand, and her heavy bag slung over the other shoulder. The bag bumped against her hip in a frustrating, annoying way as she jogged and she wished she had left it back in the common room.

As she entered the stadium she left the bag in the locker room and continued out to the field to see mostly first and second years. She scanned the students for someone she knew and grinned when she saw Neri. She waved to the professor and jogged over to stand beside the other girl.

"Hey Nerisei," she said with a grin, panting lightly. "You excited? I don't fly often but know the basics. I only hope I don't make a fool of myself."

Flying class, Mimosa sighed happily as she made her way to the Quidditch pitch. Slytherin had lost their match in February and all because they hadn't let her play. If she was more vindictive, she would have been glad. As it was, Mimosa still felt bad that her House lost.

Around her, Ji Hyun and Constance chatted about brooms while Jia En looked on nervously. Bushrah remained quiet as always and Squid Boy was missing again. He had been missing a lot lately and it thoroughly annoyed the child. He was supposed to be around, that was just how things worked.

With her Firebolt Flash glinting in the sunlight, Mimosa and her group finally arrived, taking their place among those already gathered. The first year's worries over Squid Boy vanished when she saw Nerisei and Dia, her face breaking into a huge grin. "Hiiiiii!!!" She squealed, running to hug the Ravenclaw before turning to Dia and winking at her. After all, they had pulled off rhe best prank of all time.

"Where's Mercy?" She mouthed to the Gryffindor. It wasn't like Mercy to miss a flying class.

Sterling ran a hand through his hair as he made his way down to the Quidditch Pitch. He had signed up for the class as soon as he saw it was offered, figuring it was a good way to both take up some extra time in the day and get some practice. Not that he needed the practice. He flew a lot during the summer and often came out in his free time to practice when there wasn't a match going on.

He walked out onto the field, his Star Chaser broomstick in hand and looked around. The lesson was being taught Jake Newbury, which, Sterling had to say, was impressive. He nodded to the professor respectfully and went to stand with his guys, who had also signed up for the class, but that was cause they wouldn't know flying if a magic carpet flew them to a Quidditch game. He smirked at his own joke but shook it away as he looked back to the professor, ignoring the guys' talk about being excited and crap as he waited for the class to start.

Flying Lesson (All Years) Empty

As more and more students entered the field for the lesson, Jake couldn't help but be surprised by the turn out. In truth, he'd only expected a few eager first years, but it seemed a number of the older students had opted to take the lesson too. A break, perhaps, from their studying. This did make it somewhat difficult with what he'd originally planned for the day... but first thing was first.

"Good morning everyone!" Jake greeted them as a whole, his smile warm, inviting, friendly. "As with DADA, you don't need to call me professor, Jake works perfectly fine, truth be told. Admin over, lets get on to the fun stuff!

"Because I have only seen a few of you upon a broom before..." Jake explained, looking around those already here and noting those he'd seen play Quidditch. "And because you've all got your own brooms, except for Dominique, I'm going to assume you all know the basics. For those who are confident, do a lap of the pitch to begin with so I can see the capabilities of those I will be working with. If any one needs a hand with their flying, hang back and I'll teach you the basics.

"Once I know how everyone is at flying, we'll get on to the really fun stuff!" Jake insisted, motioning them all off to get going.

His curiosity, though, was on Mimosa.

Would she be like her mother... Jake wondered, taking in the state of the art broom she held in her hand. This was just the second thing Jake hoped the young witch had inherited from him, a love for flying.

Riley eagerly listened to the Professor...errr...Jake speak. Yeah there was no way she was going to call him Jake even though he said it was okay. Her Mama would have her backside for that. He would just have to understand that for some calling a Professor by his first name was a form of heresy. Pushing thoughts of her family from her mind Riley mounted her broom.

Professor Jake wanted to see what they could do so she planned to impress. She mentally went over her check list for flying. Both her parents enjoyed flying with her Papa having been on his house team when in school. Kicking off she wobbled a little on her take off which she quickly blamed on nerves. Taking a deep breath she had to remind herself that this wasn't a race. Do a lap and show him what you can do...she had to keep repeating this mentally.

Pushing forward she started at a steady pace but speed up once other started to get going. While she was trying to tell herself it wasn't a race her competitive streak was hard to tamp down.

Before Dia could answer, or Mercy could arrive, their professor had started speaking. It was only then that the child realized it was the same professor from their Defense Class. Mimosa liked Defense mostly for how it didn't require much reading and writing and the child hoped Jake would keep up the pattern. H was alright she supposed. He didn't really bother her or made her write stuff.

"Oh i can totally do that,"the child squealed to the class at large, oblivious of any raised eyebrows her way. "I'm on the Slytherin team!" Glad that there would be no theory before hand, the child let go of her broom, its ultra sensitive nature making it come to stand before her even without Mimosa needing to position it. With a quick hop, the brunette was mounted on her Firebolt Flash, the letters MAC stenciled in pink glittering like thousands of diamonds under the sun, spelling out the initials of her name for the world to see.

In a trice, the broom reacted to her thoughts, shooting upwards and onwords. It took perhaps a little under five seconds at the speed she was going to reach her desired height and begin her lap. In another five seconds, she was back exactly where she'd started, out of breath, her neat braid now sporting loose tendrils of hair and her bright blue eyes dazzling with the elation of flying.

"How was that?" she asked, her cheeks flushed warm at the prospect of doing this for an entire lesson.
